Potential Major Hurricane Idalia Possibly to Impact Central/Northern Florida 8/29

Please post a link to the statistics on people dying at hurricane parties.

Also, if somebody is going to host or attend a hurricane party they will do so regardless of what a cake looks like. Publix "aids and abets" people dying of lung cancer by selling cigarettes. They "aid and abet" people driving drunk and killing people because they sell alcohol if you want to take things to ridiculous conclusions.

Not one hurricane party will cease to exist because Publix doesn't sell a specific "hurricane cake."

It's not statistically valid, but the tradition is strong along the Gulf Coast as detailed in this recent article...

Meanwhile, it's Publix's choice to avoid feeding the insanity associated with hurricanes by selling specially decorated cakes. Just like cigarettes and alcohol, selling hurricane cakes would be completely legal, but if they were to take that hurricane cake logic to an extreme (not necessarily ridiculous) conclusion, yes, they'd stop selling them for the public good. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that liquor sales in some way contribute to poor decisions regarding hurricane parties.

TIA will be closing just after midnight tonight. I know some people get confused with the am/pm thing, so to clarify, it will be closing just after midnight tonight (Monday).

What data do we have of people dying of Hurricane Parties that may have featured a cake with a hurricane on it?

I think it is more a sign of social media age. People make funny cakes and post pictures to share on the internet. Publix does not want any backlash.
None that I'm aware of, but I'm sure -- as you pointed out -- Publix doesn't want widely circulated photos of one of their cake boxes at the scene of a disaster.

I would agree with that if it made sense of causation from a cake. As Hurricane Parties where anyone is doing anything unsafe should be frowned upon.

But you know, not selling alcohol during a State of Emergency would be the best and route that matters for that? Furthermore, drunk driving and intoxication related deaths are far worse than just self destructive. If we could pull up data I imagine most parties had alcohol involved in their dangers rather than cake. I bet some did not even have cake at all but indeed had alcohol.

Whatever the case one place will usually be open 24/7 and die hard patrons will visit during a hurricane - Waffle House
Warren the PR WH exec promotes last to close first to open , but through a number of hurricanes, Waffle House has remained open.
I will order my waffle and hashbrowns, extra crispy , chunked, peppered, smothered , covered, diced, capped, topped and country.

By the time they get to anything beyond a Cat 1, those start to close in areas predicted to hit. They are like theme parks, short notice and quick to reopen but they do close.

That was a joke but also a sign on how serious Ian was getting. Waffle Houses closed up prior to hit.

Without a doubt it does. I don't think that is a bold statement to make.

The Governer/state also reserves the right during a State of emergency to go dry in sales.

But if they are willing to cease cake sales, I would be ok with stores making that choice before it becomes the law saying they cannot.

Lee County Schools, SWFL are all closed for at least tomorrow. Makes sense.

What is unique at WDW is I have heard a few cast members stay
in the theme parks to ride out the storm and work together in clean up efforts post storm to open up the parks quickly to the many waiting guests staying in the resorts.

"Tropical Storm Idalia is anticipated to strengthen into a Category 4 hurricane as it enters the Gulf of Mexico, Florida’s emergency chief said on Monday morning as he urged Floridians to prepare for impacts."

Question: Why does Waffle House have locks on their doors when they're open 24/7 :D

Back in the day or perhaps as of today some Waffle House locations in suspect areas have a variety of individuals making a living at night getting their WH fix , or others under the influence eating there late night.

Not unique to just WDW. Many major resorts and facilities do this with ride out crews.

What my post was referencing was like Wafflehouse. Their employees don't often know until the day before in some extreme cases where two days before would probably be more appropriate when it is the storm of the century like Ian was last year. They had waited less before but the theme parks and their special events were riding on them.

What is different with this compared to a Wafflehouse is a lot of their body of employees come from further areas and are more affected by the storm if they are coming from say, Tampa than Central FL proper and last year, most of the state was dealing with it.

Looks like the ones who will be cleaning up that are going to receive on their larger than normal paychecks is the ride out/clean up staff riding out the hurricane on the clock!

It's not as many as you would think. It pertains more to the hotel guests because they are stuck there or came there from coastal towns.

It is not really any larger of a paycheck. You don't get paid differently in most cases. You are just on the clock working vs on the clock hunkering down.
