Checked throughout the forums and didn't see a link anywhere, so figured I'd throw this out there. (Feel free to close the thread or move it if one already exists for the topic)

Passengers stranded on 'Pirates of the Caribbean'
Updated: Monday, 05 Sep 2011, 10:54 PM EDT

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) - Visitors to Walt Disney World Resort’s Magic Kingdom park told FOX 35 News that they were stranded on a popular ride for more than an hour.

Passengers who were riding the Pirates of the Caribbean water ride late Sunday evening tell us the incident happened around 10:30 p.m. They said the ride stopped running, and they were told to remain on the ride for almost two hours before they were allowed to exit.

Disney officials said attempts were made to automatically restart the ride, and when that didn't work, staff had to manually bring the ride back into operation. Disney also says that there were no serious injuries.

Park officials have offered an apology to all park goers who were affected and we'll work on a case by case basis to try to make up for the inconvenience. Disney says there have not been any major mechanical issues with the ride in the past.

If you were on the ride when this event occurred, contact us with your story at news@foxwofl.com.

The first Pirates of the Caribbean ride opened in 1967 at Disneyland in Anaheim, California and was the last attraction at the park in which Walt Disney had direct involvement in designing.

Correction: An earlier version of this story indicated that the Pirates of the Caribbean ride opened at the Magic Kingdom in 1971. The ride was added to the Orlando attraction after the park's opening.

I absolutely hate when stuff like this makes the news. The ride broke down, it happens, and the guests were compensated for their wasted time.

"There were no serious injuries." - nice. I think they meant there were ABSOLUTELY NO injuries.

I feel especially feel sorry for those who got stuck during the "battle" "well" and "chase" scenes being forced to hear Captain Jack Sparrow's name repeated several hundred times.:fork:

People standing in that line dont receive compensation but then again, they probably didnt sustain any serious injuries either :hammer:

People are so petty. Notify the media because the ride stopped for an hour.... I am sure this was a life defining moment that will require years of therapy!

We got stuck on POTC for over an hour back during our Spring Break March 2009 trip. We took it all in stride and just enjoyed the time together. Other than the fact that there were some fellow Canadian Spring Breakers a boat or two behind us (teenagers) who would NOT stop singing Christmas songs (it was March folks :hammer:) and the fact that we had to hear the pirates do the whole "We wants the redhead!" spiel over and over for what seemed like an eternity :brick: , it wasn't really THAT bad! Never really got any great compensation either, other than 1 FastPass good for 1 ride that day at MK. But we didn't care....we were on family vacation in Florida at the happiest place on earth!!! Enough said ;) :sohappy:

gotta say that would really kinda suck. not enough to warrant compensation other than a fp, imo- unless you get the enjoyment of an evac, now that's just good behind the scenes fun!!!!

but at 1030 pm, you're prolly enjoying at least the first 20 or so min sitting. lol!:animwink: by that time, odds are you a bit tired and needed the break.

Anyone on here been stuck on an airplane parked on the tarmac for two hours? Same principle here. Keeping riders stuck for 2+ hours is a tremendous safety concern, violates Disney's own internal operating procedures, and IS in fact newsworthy. Particularly considering the attraction where it occurred.

Let's just hope that the attractions MOD that night DID in fact call Reedy Creek when the ride went down for the count and was acting on their advice with respect to keeping guests on the attraction. Because if they DIDN'T........

Something was going on yesterday (labor day) as well. I was at the MK and we went by pirates twice and both times (12:00, 2:00) it was shut down. Sounds like it could be a major issue.

My son and I were stuck on Test Track and few years back and had to be escorted off the ride. We took it in stride as it was beyond our control as we we heading out the exit we were handed and return pass good for anytime. We returned later in the day and were taken right to the front of the line. Couldn't have been happier...

I got stuck on space mountain and did not complain. They literally could not bring the bars back up after the ride. They brought the car back to maintanance and had to use a hammer on the underside of the car. I actually found it cool especially the mickey head made of pennies.

I didnt go complaining to the news.

They did give me 20 use anywhere fastpasses. They also thanked me for not going crazy as other people would have. I told them i was a disney enthusiast and actually enjoyed seeing the maintanance shed for the ride.

Maybe it was George?

On my last trip in October My fiance and I were waiting for the next boat and were talking about the "ghost" we couldnt remember his name so we asked the cm working the ride. He laughed at us and said he never heard of it. We both thought HE was crazy for not hearing of it. He asked a co worker and they both said the same thing, they never heard of the story. As he sat us in our row and sent our boat off he told us "I'm gonna as my friend george, he has been here a long time".. Steph an I looked at each other and immediately knew he was messing with us.

Well the ride started normally and we rounded the corner, went through the cave and just as our boat was inching towards the drop we heard a bang. The ride shut down for like 30 minutes, sound stoppped and started a few times and they finally kicked us off. Fortunately we were right by an exit gate, others had to wait much longer I'm sure.

We ended up getting fast passes that we used on peter pan because the park was pretty dead except for that ride.

Anyway thats my stoppage story..

PS we both lived through it..... No serious injuries.

I may be the only one, but I think it would be quite nice to sit back and relax on that ride for an hour and just gaze around at the scenery.

It would be far better than being stuck on IASM for an hour. In fact, of all the rides to be stuck on for an hour, I think Pirates is the one I would choose.

Don't know what is going on but we couldn't ride it in May or in early Sept because it was closed down. Tried this 2 different nights of each of the trips. Hoping it is working in 2 weeks when we go back. We were stuck on Test Track once for about 1/2 hour and we had to exit the vehicles on foot. That was really cool, we walked through the attraction for quite a while and the lights were on so I considered that a bonus.
