Soon, He might just be the Mayor.
Care to elaborate? The auction scene is arguably the most iconic in the attraction, I don't see them doing away with it? Surely not.

I don't know if political correctness is the full story. It probably has more to do with cross-promotional synergy with political correctness as a secondary concern. So I've heard........ I HATE political correctness!
Here's another video
His last wherabouts was when he was in the boys section at World of Disney where you could fill a Skull or Treasure Chest with pirate trinkets....After they discontinued it he too left once again...
Can I assume Paul Frees also did the WDW voiceover for "Dead Men Tell No Tales"?
I always felt it was cartoony.I'm not a fan of the skull's blacklit day-glo paint job. Makes it appear way too cartoony, which clashes with the style of the ride.
I guess we should be happy that it's an actual three-dimensional effect and not just a projection...

The original skull from 1973 was far more cartoony than this one is.I'm not a fan of the skull's blacklit day-glo paint job. Makes it appear way too cartoony, which clashes with the style of the ride.

I agree and that is likely why it survived 2006 while WDW's didn't. Never mind the fact that the 06 refurb was deliberately designed for the DL Version and then shoehorned into WDW.I hear you. DL's lantern-lit skull is the best.
I haven't heard a single peep about changes to the auction scene, can somebody please elaborate on what is planned to be changed?
There is a rumor Disneyland Paris is changing out the auction scene. Everyone since panicked that it would be removed from all of the versions. That's all there is to it.
On the topic of the skull, I like it.
Hopefully that's all there is to it. I asked around (granted I'm not as connected as some, but I manage) and nobody that I spoke to had heard anything like that.
It looked much better once they removed the googly eyes. The original skull from 1973 was far more cartoony than this one is.
