Good to know! That's because its Paul Frees, who also voiced the Ghost Host in Haunted Mansion.

Then a DL cast member lied to me!No, the original Pirate Skull's voice is X. Atencio, who wrote the script and Yo Ho song for Pirates.
Because the skull doesn't have a moment to himself in Florida. Sure he's over the drop, but he's just awkwardly at the end of the skeleton caves rather then being the Call to Adventure he is in the California/Tokyo versions. He's not a focal point of guest attention when placed next to the skeleton helmsman, he was just kinda added in because he was expected to be there and ended up just functioning as a safety warning. Now he's a cameraman with quips.I don't get why they didn't just put the original audio in, it sounds so much better...
And here's everyone's reaction when the photo is taken.....Because the skull doesn't have a moment to himself in Florida. Hit the 18:36 mark on @marni1971's combined Florida Pirates/Big Thunder Mountain video (Put them together because of the Western River Expedition connection)Is there a before & after of this anywhere? The video I'd watched with the original skull was pretty dark.
I have memories of the WDW skull with a slightly cartoony eyeball.

Paul Frees used to be all over the ride. Originally, he was the voice of Blackbeard (replaced by Barbossa), Carlos (the mayor in the well), the auctioneer, the pooped pirate, the "Dead men tell no tales" and "No fear of evil curses..." voice-overs in the cave and perhaps more. Now, he's the mayor and the auctioneer. His voice was versatile but distinctive. Then a DL cast member lied to me!
Perhaps they were mixed up and Frees does another voice in the ride.
Time for you to 'splain this one, as it doesn't seem anyone has noted a familiarity. Also of note:
Has anyone looked at the steering pirate lately? Let's just say that now he looks... familiar.
