PotC Hidden Skull?

Seriously? You didn't even read the post I was responding to, did you?

HMF wasn't simply stating that he liked the skull.

He specifically responded to my criticism by saying it could have been worse, and that I should "pick my battles."

He was telling me I shouldn't post a negative opinion of the skull.

HE'S the one you should be lecturing that it's okay to have a different opinion, not me. But then, he agreed with you, so why would you?

Got it.

I never said any of that.

I'm one of the first to tell someone to express their opinion. Complain away. You do you.

How could they have made it better then? Why is this one bad just because it was "brought back to sell photos"? I personally don't care that it was. You do and that's fine. But it often comes off as complaining to complain, but if someone says "they could have made it more realistic by doing so and so" or given examples on how to make it better, I agree that's not just complaining. That doesn't mean I think someone should conceal how they feel. I never said that. I have my opinion on things and you have yours. We all have them and are free to express them.

You implied HMF was accepting "crumbs" but why does it matter if we like the skull and don't care why it was brought back? Just like you not liking it, the rest have every right to like it. I've acknowledged why they brought it back and wished it wasn't for that reason.

I guess this is a lecture

These don't look cartoony at all, do they?
As for the sculptures Blaine did for the ride.

Finally, the other original 1973 element that everyone wants back's realism is astounding.

My apologies, I should have been more specific . It doesn't fit the aesthetic of the portion of the ride that it's in. It's literally surrounded by realistically-styled skeletons. The skull that was originally in its place was also sculpted realistically. It also feels like a different style of cartoony altogether. Pirates isn't necessarily a blacklit attraction. It looks much more Peter Pan's Flight than World of Motion to me.

Yeah, I think being mad that it was brought back to sell photos is a little petty. I don't honestly doubt that it wouldn't have returned without that caveat, but that's not the problem for me.

I just don't think it's sculpted in a way that meshes well with the other skeletons in the caverns.

Well. It appears that they've given the steering skeleton the Jack Sparrow treatment, which is a far worse offense to me than the skull.

What story exactly are they trying to shove in here? Why is Jack a skeleton in the caverns, but is alive and well in the town? Florida's Pirates doesn't have a time travel conceit, so it really doesn't make a bit of sense.

But it is not intended to be one of the realistic skeletons... It is a decoration...with red fabric behind... It is not so cartoony that I think you even have time to process it before the flash goes off and you are over the falls... I do wish they would expand the thunder roll audio as you continue on the downramp and into the tunnel to the harbor... Do they still have the ""No fear have ye of evil curses, says you?" Arrrgh... Properly warned ye be, says I. " ? Seems like that disappeared a while back with the "Dead Men Tell No Tales" audio...

Perhaps during the tunnel to the harbor after the downramp they could set up the time travel setup...If you are going to Add Jack Sparrow and create an implied narrative, then at least give it a little more setup...tie it in with a visual setting on the speedramp back up to plaza level bringing you back to present day...

Who said the skeleton is supposed to be Jack? The original skeleton had a red bandana I don't see how it is supposed to be Jack.

It's been gone since 06 and good thing too because it only complicates the story even further. This whole mess is what happens when you try to force a storyline into a ride that is supposed to be a "Experience" Ride.

Agreed and I agree with you that it doesn't mesh well with the other skeletons.

There is a rumor Disneyland Paris is changing out the auction scene. Everyone since panicked that it would be removed from all of the versions. That's all there is to it.

On the topic of the skull, I like it.
The skull's OK, but the voiceover sucks. The accent is more Wall Street than Tortuga.
Come to think of it, that's actually pretty appropriate these days.

Then why is it in the cavern with all of the other realistic skeletons, and why did it replace another realistic skeleton? That portion of the ride has a dark and moody ambiance. I just don't think it fits in very well. I'm glad they've brought something back, but I'm just as entitled to feel that it doesn't fit in as you are to feel that it does.

Curse of the Aztec Gold/moonlight.

So now we're to assume that all of the other skeletons in the caverns are also living pirates? Surely we can start to see how this shoehorning of movie themes is getting out of hand.

Who said the skeleton is supposed to be Jack? The original skeleton had a red bandana I don't see how it is supposed to be Jack.

He has the braids and outfit now. It's definitely supposed to be Jack, imo.

EDIT FOR CLARIFICATION: I'm talking about the full-body skeleton at the helm of the wheel right before the talking skull, not the talking skull itself. I don't know if that was clear.

No, the skeletons are dead. That is critical to the ride.

Exactly. It's like the people approving these movie tie-ins don't understand the general theme of the Florida attraction. Turning the steering wheel skeleton into Jack just further conflates the plot holes already created by the other movie additions.

At this point, either turn it into an attraction solely based on the films, or stop trying to force plots and themes from the films into an attraction that ultimately is completely different from them.

This. If the rest of the pirates in the ride were painted with dayglo colors and lit by blacklight, we wouldn't even be having this conversation.

I don't care that it's just there for the photos; I only pointed it out when someone made it sound like Disney added it as a show of generosity to their guests. That, it was not.

I mean, I suppose it could've just been a static skull or a literal hole in the wall, so maybe we should be thankful for the little things... ;)
