post Disney depression

Hi everyone,
I am new to this website (but not to Disney). I just returned (two days ago) from a one-week trip to WDW. It was a great trip, although the weather was not so great for the first few days. Anyway, it was wonderful but about halfway through the trip I started getting sad about the number of days we had left. I cried several times during our visit to the Magic Kingdom on our last day. Cried on the Magic Express, cried on the plane home, cried various times yesterday. Oh, and I'm an adult, by the way. I don't have another trip planned yet, and my husband wants to go somewhere else before we go back to Disney. I am really sad about it. I think I am happier at DW than I am anywhere else.

How do you deal with post-disney depression?

By listening to Live 365 Internet radio: Magic 24/7; Magic Radio, Mouse House Radio, Sorcerer Radio, DisRob Radio, MouseWorld Radio, etc., etc. :sohappy:

We also returned on Saturday after a week at POR. Depression hits hard.

Thanks for the radio tips. We were at POR too! I had stayed at POFQ before but this was my first time at POR. I liked it a lot. I really miss seeing that water wheel every morning on my way to the restaurant :(

We had that this year after our AP expired. We ended up getting Universal passes this weekend. It is cheaper and we really wanted to wait until some of the new stuff is complete at Disney before we return.

But yeah, I feel so happy at Disney. I feel so corny saying that, but it is a great place. :)

We need time for things to happen.
I always have my next trip booked before I leave for my upcoming trip. Only cure I've found.

Yup that truly is THE ONLY cure.

I can't come visit and post on these boards I love so much - if I don't have trip planned.
If I don't have a trip planned and I come here and see all my WDWMagic friends posting about trips their planning just makes me jealous and angry...:lookaroun

Normally we'd be leaving for the World tomorrow. Had to postpone our trip until September...but at least it's on the books..otherwise I wouldn't be hear commenting on this thread....:p

Happy @ Disney!

I guess I try to look back on all that we did and making a scrapbook of everything!
I do like to plan the next time we'll go!:)
It's an obsession. I admit it!:lookaroun

It is something almost ALL of us face... in some degree or another. I think we all have our own unique ways of coping, but I'll certainly say having another trip book or at least loosely lined up certainly helps. For me, it really sets in when we say goodbye in our last gate... which is normally Epcot if we're staying at the Beach Club. There is something about that last ride on Spaceship Earth that just hits a soft spot for us. We're still happy when we're walking back but when we board the DME bus it really starts to hit home. Nothing burns more than seeing the last glimpse of the Disney store at MCO when you're heading through security and see the balloons at your gate.

I then have a small bit of joy when I get home... as a photographer I now have work to do on files. It reminds me of my memories as I work on each raw file. Once my work is complete the blues really set in. But reading this forum, radio and podcasts really help!

We start making lists of what we've done. The lists are marked, do again, maybe do again and definitly not do again. then the day after we get home we go over the list and start planning next years, (or two years) adventure to WDW.. keeps the mind from missing Disney, but not the heart, unfortunately. That you just have to work past.

Leaving always sucks. From the Magical Express envelope on the door in the morning to trying not to think about it being the last day all day...

I find doing a trip report helps. Looking through pictures is good too. We are DVC members, so that helps knowing that we are going back. Don't worry...the feeling passes.

I remember a couple of years ago I busted out crying at the Cape May Cafe. I mean hysterically sobbing cuz I was leaving that day. I think my mom was baffled and slightly embarrassed. I couldn't help it. Goofy was even laughing at me. :D

So as soon as I got home I went and priced my next trip.

I usually start planning my next trip by the second to last day I'm there. I may be nuts. :p

Depending on how life is going back in the real world, my "Departing Disney Depression" level varies. Also, the gap between trips will affect my depression. We just went in March for a convention. We'll be there this coming Sunday for another convention. And then we take our REAL vacation for a week in November.

So, this year, I haven't even been sad that we hardly rode anything, because I knew we'd be right back.

But other years, when we'd go in January, and then not for at least a year....it was hard leaving. I MUST visit the MK last, and on the day we depart, to have proper closure. If we don't go to a park the day we check-out, it just feels like I'm missing out. Weird....I know. Sounds like a sort of separation anxiety or something.

Anyway, while you may be in a minority (and one made up primarily of females) for crying....you're not alone in the "it's almost over" sadness.

Coping is easy....waste hours and hours of your day on here. :D

I am leaving for a trip in 31 days and am already feeling sad:( I can't wait to go and be in Magic Kingdom and just be happy to be back at the World, but why oh why does the week have to go by so fast. It takes forever once you plan your trip until you get there, but once there it's over so very fast. Time should slow down when you are in the parks so you can absorb and really enjoy everything in slow motion!!

I also have a husband who won't go to Disney so I have to wait until another member of my family wants to go, then I tag along:)

I always cry...ALWAYS Usually I start to tear up as we start walking down Main Street for the last time of the trip. Just as we get to the end of the street, I turn around and I take one last look at the castle and then I just lose it.

Here's a picture from one of our trips. We had just left MNSSHP and were about to get onto the monorail to take us back to our resort. Everyone is all smiles but me.

The worse part is the depression doesn't go away quickly. Weeks later I'll look at a clock and think to myself "Three weeks ago we were riding TSM" or "Last week at this time we were having breakfast at Chef Mickeys", or "a year ago, we were checking into Wilderness Lodge", etc...
