The fact that they waited so long to go public, really has me curious also. Leads me to all kind of speculation. Was it political, did Disney try to keep it quiet, was there something in the victim's story that was questionable? Did they believe this was an isolated incidence, date rape?
Am I just mis-reading, or does it seem like the news outlets seem reluctant to officially call it a "rape case"? Things just aren't adding up for me.
I hope they catch the guy, but still, there are some unanswered questions.

@ISTCNavigator57's explanation was quite good.

"Our detectives worked this case vigorously until they felt they needed the public's help," sheriff's spokeswoman Jane Watrel said. "Sometimes they want to hold things close to the vest so they can proceed with the investigation."

Obviously, they'd rather not release info unless they have to. It's a very sensitive issue. Also, the moment a story releases, it's more likely that the guy will flee. You'd prefer to have him in custody before releasing info.

Can people just not talk when they don't have something intelligent to say?!?!

I'm royally tired of seeing newsworthy threads die because people are too stupid to keep their yaps shut and the mods can't be everywhere at everytime.

Want to discuss why there is so much rape? Open a damn thread down in chit-chat.? You can also talk Bill Cosby and the media there.
IMO, it's because this topic is less of a discussion thread and more of a real news post. It's important, important people see the picture, be on the lookout that not everyone on WDW grounds has the best of intentions, and all should be careful.
There is really no other way to discuss this topic. Rape is a horrible, awful, life-impacting thing that happens way too often, and nowhere seems to be safe. People need to be informed about how to be careful in all situations, and to locate avenues for themselves or their loved ones to get help if something this terrible happens.
I agree that your post was newsworthy, and should exist. I almost feel it was important enough to place on the front page, or locked after your OP only to be updated to add additional information. There just isnt really any discussion about rape at WDW that is going to last long enough on topic to do more good than your initial post and @PhotoDave219 posting the pictures.

Just my opinion though.

i get concert updates and service night stuff in my email from HOB thru live nation alla time..
I won't lie, service industry nights are incredibly fun if you're with the right people, but there's also a lot of people there that get sexually harassed, people who can't handle their alcohol, people that get taken advantage of, etc. And the place gets packed to the roof both club floor and balcony. It's quite the experience.

Exactly. There's nothing to really discuss.

I don't think you're alone in seeing a reluctance to call this a rape case, but at the present significant amounts of information do seem to be missing. It definitely seems to be a lot of half reported information. Despite being a "possible rape," the pictured man is a "suspect" which caries an implication that a crime was more than "potentially" committed. Also, the article reads as though the victim's friend has just completely disappeared.

I get the importance of getting the news out, and informing people to be on the lookout, but this is still a discussion board. News just happens to be part of the conversation. Not that I think we should be debating guilt or innocence here, or conducting our own manhunt (leave it to the Police), but the facts that are known so far leave a lot to talk about, 122 posts so far would seem to prove my point. Still, we should all try to be respectful to the victim, and the unkown circumstances.

Maybe, I'm misunderstanding what you mean, but they did talk to the friend. Unless you mean the friend disappeared that night.
