Possible Pirate themed restaurant for Adventureland

Am I the only one who is starting to see overkill again here?

Disney seems to have forgotten lately how to ensure longevity by leaving people wanting more. Today, its more like leaving people saying if they see ONE MORE pirate or mouse they are going to go crazy.

"Had a great vacation, but it's nice to get back home. Honey, I think we should just go to Daytona next year. Disney has gotten to where everything is the same... and still overpriced. We can skip a year or even two -- then maybe I can stomach the pirate and princess overload again...."
Isn't that what the little girl said about hugging princesses in that Universal Commercial... Life reflects Art?

I'm the one that broke the news last year. I'll make some phone calls and see whats going on with it currently. As of January it was moving along very quickly. However, I'm a little surprised that there has been no announcement or visable work done yet. The way they were talking in January it sounded like they wanted it open ASAP. I'll find out what the current situation is as soon as I can.

I was obsessed with the alcohol free Mint Juleps went I went to Disneyland, so hopefully they bring that our way. Not to mention "gumbo in a breadbowl". But then again, DL's Pirates is Nawleans themed, so maybe that wouldn't fit in here.

What is our Pirates based on, Spanish

I'll agree with most of the others... it would definitely stay popular well beyond the popularity of the movies. Obviously eventually the obsession with the Pirates will die out... but a restaurant based on pirates wouldn't therefore obviously lose popularity. For one; I have strongly felt the Magic Kingdom needs another full service restaurant... Others may not, but I feel they do... and if they are going to build a restaurant it will need a theme; 30 years from now the ride POTC will still be popular, and to have a theme restaurant next to it (around, whatever) with that seem theming will keep it going... plus... its just another place to eat... Fatties like me will go no matter what the theming

I can tell you that stands was being moved out of the Veranda to make room for this restaurant! I was told it would have a 2008 opening!

Ummm....the Caribbean?

New Orleans, though geographically just outside of the Caribbean proper is considered a Caribbean seaport. Pirates like Jean Lafitte frequented New Orleans quite often and had a hideout just south of he city. New Orleans itself--in those days--was a blend of many cultures: French, Spanish, English, Creole, etc.

This is the rumor from last Oct. 16, posted by Capt. Jack:

Disney is sending out surveys asking guests what they think of a pirate dinner. Boat ride to Discovery Island followed by dinner prepared by Jack Sparrow and his band of pirates.

*****************

Well....here's a HOT one!

Fired up from the crazy billions that Pirates brought into the Disney company this year, and giddy with excitement that the third movie will do the same next year, Disney big wigs might just be working quietly to force the Imagineers to turn the 1950's Tom Sawyer Island into "Pirates Island" before next summer.
This would actually work nicely in DisneyLand's case, as the theming of the area is so differnt than that of WDW's.
"It's no secret that the Island has needed a makeover and more modern facilities installed for quite some time, and this project is just the ticket to get those things paid for. New bathrooms and regraded trails to accommodate wheelchairs and electric carts were added to the plan, as well as a snack bar and a small shop to milk a few bucks out of the expected hordes of parents and their children. In almost a complete reversal of the normal way a new attraction is proposed, the marketers and merchandisers drafted the concept and the plans and the Imagineers are now left to struggle to come up with the actual designs and themes."
Sounds like this might be a sure thing, though it has not been formally "green-lighted" just yet.
The old Fort might be the first thing to go to make way for the Pirate Invasion. Should be interesting to see how this all works out!

i hope it ends up being really really kool!

Name suggestions!

Old Port Royale Restaurant
Tortuga Landing
"The World's End"
Davey Jones Locker

This could prove to be excellent for older fans and youngings...especially if it means more "Rum" infused delights in Magic Kingdom!

As long as Keira Knightley is part of the character experience, I don't care what they call it or what food they serve.

Someone clarify this for me. Will this be a restaurant themed around Disney characters dressed up in a pirates theme or realistic, PotC movie type characters or no characters at all?

It will be themed to realistic POTC movie type characters. They want this to be the boy version of Cinderella's Royal Table. This will be the high end equivalent for boys. Here is the original post I put out in January it has all of the information I knew up to that point. http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=132478 I'm going to try and get an update as soon as I can.

I don't know if this has anything to do with the rumor, but last year I received two email questionaires, from WDW, concerning a pirate themed dinner. If memory serves, they wanted to know what price I would pay, would we go, etc. I think it sounds great!

Not a bad idea, and you're right, the ratio of people in other areas of the park especially Frontierland compared to Adventureland is lopsided. A restaurant in the area would definitely prove to distribute guests a little more evenly.
