Possible New Country at World Showcase

I think...

I think Egypt would definitely be cool...

They could build a ride in which you sailed down the nile, passing important Egyptian landmarks, and then you deboard at a ceremonial dock where you enter a tomb and board an omnimover - perhaps the one ripped out of Living Seas? - to learn more about Egyptian culture... perhaps even put in a scary mummy?

I think that would fit in well with WS... but then again I'm probably dreaming again...

It's kind of a departure from what Epcot is supposed to be all about....

Epcot never will be a Thrill Park, 3 E-tickets don't make a thrill park. They make for more visitors and more money and more advanced, cutting edge educational yet fun rides Epcot needs.

Totally agree! Epcot is "discovery". If you want thrill rides, there are other parks. :)

If it holds true that all lots onthe WS are the same size, then the russia pavillion could still go through......right?

Russia would go in only if the Russian governement and Russian companies are stable enough to provide the resouces to sopncer the pavilion.

It has been the national and corportae sponcerships which have stall and killed all of the un-built WS countries,

This is completely true. I'm sure people don't go to Epcot for a thrill ride, but for the magic and tranquillity you can experience with quiet attractions. Maybe Test Track was just a real "TEST" to see how people would respond to a thrill ride installed at Epcot. The answer seems to be positive, since the attraction is always to the max. However, I think no more thrill rides should be built at Epcot since finding thematics as an excuse for a thrill ride would ruin the basic idea of the park. Epcot have mantained its guests all along with no tricks, people love the park the way it is, so I think for a while, they don't need to touch it.

with epcot being 20 years old, it ought to see more guests than it does (it sees roughly as many as MGM sees). I think disney has learned the hard way that every park needs some thrill rides. You can teach and have thrills at the same time. Epcot is no where near turning into a thrill park. They need some way to get kids and teenagers into the park...because they find Epcot boring, for the most part. I'm not setting up a stereotype, but I think disney has learned the same thing and thus--the thrill rides. World Showcase hasn't had anything new in soooooooooo long (unless you count that nasty Millennium Village...ewww)

Yes, me too, and I suppose most of the people goes from the same reason -apart from being so spectacular. I'm not really against them building another Thrill Ride at Epcot, but I don't really think there is a need to hasten.

If a thrill ride was put in Epcot it would have to be tastefully camoflaged, and quiet. The overall feeling of WS would be lost if you could here distractions from other areas. The whole idea is "seemless boundaries" or overlapping landscapes. The mental transition between countries is gradual and flowing. A loud obnoxious thrill ride would ruin that. The new country should be a country that is real and has both a current and past history. A representation of our World. just my thoughts,

Disneylanders, is the Matterhorn an overly loud ride? I mean even if it is, it can be placed far behind and technology updates could surely fix other loud problems.

Chances are, a Matterhorn Mountain would be placed far back in a Switzerland pavillion, not only to block out the noise, but to look as a natural backdrop for switzerland.

Hate to say it, but yes, the Matterhorn at DL is an excessively LOUD ride. Probably the worst noise in the park is between the Matterhorn entrance and the Mad Tea Party--lots of zooming, screaming bobsledders, noisy bobsleds, and the infernal never-ending "very merry unbirthday song" going on and on and on...

You gotta take this area in doses or headaches will happen.

And since the Matterhorn has two separate tracks going all around the mountain with the constant intermittant roar of an Abominal(sp) Snowman, there really is no getting away from the noise as long as you're near it.

Hence, I fear that wherever they'd put a Matterhorn type ride in WS, you'd end up with a potentially noisy ride that would be heard all over WS--at least at the nearby pavillions.

Can it be redone a bit to make it quieter? Probably, but half the fun of the ride is all the in and out of the ice caves/mountain. It's that simple little Disney touch that has made it a popular and innovative roller coaster ride since 1959.
