So now that we have stuck to our New Year's resolution of working out and eating better DH has mentioned going to the gym during our cruise  So has anyone actually been to the gym on their cruise? We will be on the Wonder. We have both decided to ditch the better eating (well for the 5 nights anyways), but if DH goes to the gym I will have to go too because there is no way he can be better than me, lol.

Thanks for the info :D

I actually was a gym rat at the time of my 07 disney cruise.

Don't worry, there's people far worse, 10 years ago we did a family reunion disney cruise. And friends of our cousins invited friends of theirs. And their son who was in his 20's at the time, no joke, I'm not being mean, was probably close to 350 lbs.

He decided that he was gonna start a diet the first day of the cruise! We were all trying to tell him, that this was some of the best food he might ever get to have, his answer? "well, I burned 2000 calories yesterday, so no, I've been good with that first day of exercise" He was ordering salads and stuff the whole time.

Guess what? I saw him a few years later, he looked exactly the same.

I went to the gym & ran on the treadmill last May because the deck 4 running track was closed. It was fine but I'd rather run outside. We've stopped totally over eating. I think its okay to eat the yummy stuff. I've done better at pacing myself and leaving some on my plate. Also, I no longer feel the need to order something from every course. A salad & entre hits the spot just fine. I don't want to eat my cruise and body away. Too much fun to be had that isn't food! Plus, gotta save some splurges for the liquid variety, right???

Amen @sweetpee_1993 I think because we have been eating less we won't be as hungry and we are planning to nibble more than gobble. After the week I had at work last week and how next week is already shaping up I will need lots of those drinks when we get on that boat next Saturday! We will be gone for 9 days so we don't want to get totally out of the habit.

We did use the Magic's gym while we were on Med Cruise. Our youngest (15) was too young to use gym so ran on the "track" on deck 4 and did some stairs. Only on non-excursion days (at sea, etc) and we still enjoyed all the great food.

Running the stairs is a great idea. Sprint from deck 1 to the top, walk it back down, and repeat!

Yes, I used the gym on a previous cruise and plan on getting into the gym on the Fantasy in a few weeks. It's pretty standard equipment. Lots of treadmill/elliptical type machines; free weights; mats and exercise balls. There are also group exercise sessions that are available for free. I went to the yoga session last time and if there are others available, I may try some of them this time. There are also lockers and showers.

Also, I no longer feel the need to order something from every course.
Totally agree with this. No need for a soup/salad course. Just get 3 appetizers, 2 entrees and a dessert. Skipping the soup means it's ok to have soft serve ice cream before bed.

My wife and I on our 4 night cruise did the group spin class on day two's morning. Day three (CC) we did the 5k, and on day four we ran on deck four. We also watched the soda intake (it takes 32 glasses of water to detox your system from one glass of soda). For breakfast it was some oatmeal or eggs or a parfait. Of course the Mickey Waffles with strawberry compote was a must. When we were hungry we would grab an apple or banana. During the day we would also have a small salad or wrap and didn't indulge heavily. For dinner, we ordered what we wanted off the menu. That being said, you are better off having several small meals throughout the day rather than the big three. Desserts and snacks are fine in moderation...just don't load up too much. A cookie or brownie here and there is perfectly normal. If you work hard at exercise and diet, a treat to reward yourself is great. Its the people that are on the treadmill for 20 minutes then feel its ok to have cookies, ice cream, and a ton of other things as their treat have the problems. You're on vacation, use the fitness facilities, but treat yourself a little as well. You can eat well, have fun, and be happy. Enjoy!

When we were on the Wonder last February (Mexican Riviera) the girls went to the gym every day! They said it was fine, and the views are not to be beat.
