I don't think that would satisfy legacy-obsessed Iger. Perhaps he will demand it get shoehorned in elsewhere. It is easily on track to break $1 bn. They would be foolish to ignore that.

How about a 3rd LPS for DHS? Perhaps they'll get a Buy 2, Get 1 free discount?
It's guaranteed to break 1B. There's not even the slightest chance it won't.

I agree that it will be Rat for France but I'm hopeful that BatB will find a place in WDW either at MK or DHS.

However, I find it hard to believe after the opening weekend that it won't. On top of that, it was actually a really good remake of the original. Even my wife enjoyed it and she hates going to the movies in general.

Oh I haven't. What I was implying is that Bob Igor will want it somewhere. That said, this is a VERY easy switch (Epcot) to make. If they were willing to put GotG into ToT, this would be an even easier decision--they have the space where it basically makes sense (if anything, the live action BatB is more clearly set in France than the original) and can easily substitute one use of LPS for another. We shall see how the next 6 months go. Remember how quickly the DHS plans shifted?

Imagine Emma Watson on billboards next to Daniel Radcliffe.
Could put it in at the ToT building, then it would be next to the musical at DHS. They need to jump on it instead of waiting a few years like Frozen.

I will be interested to see where this project stands by summer.

I don't particularly care between the two IPs. At least BatB is guaranteed to be amazing since it is a Tokyo ride.
Agreed. Tokyo ordered the batb one so I know that even if horribly out of place it will be a solid experience. But I am curious to see the fate of this project come may.

B&tB will be incredible, but the placement is off. I, like Martin, am sticking to the fact that Rat should win this battle. However, as has been said earlier, we should see an upping of Beuaty's presence.

I think that makes a lot of sense. Especially since Beauty is so well represented in MK already and the remake doesn't add anything that cries out for representation that isn't already covered.

Yes, agreed! People act like the park needs this ride because the movie will do so well. But the animated film already has the show in DHS, a significant portion in Mickey's Philharmagic, and a land in NFL where you have a M&G, full-scale restaurant, shop, and small eatery in Gaston's (and Maurice's Popping cart). Okay, so this movie looks incredible and I cannot wait to see it. And it will totally do $1 billion +. So, rather than add another ride for this movie, give us something brand new with Ratatouille and make significant channges to the show in DHS. Why not enclose it and add something more in caliber to the broadway show to DHS? You cannot tell me those tired costumes do not need updating!

My ideal... Ratatouille in France and then adding the Tokyo BatB to MK. The most logical place would be by tearing out Gaston's and the bathrooms there, using that space for the queue and having the ride transport people over Magic Kingdom drive into the showbuilding on the other side of the road.

I'm not trying to reason through this as me. I'm reasoning through it like Bob Iger. The guy who wants SWL shoehorned into Disneyland despite not belonging, Frozen into an inappropriate ride system and location at Epcot, and AVATAR at DAK. I am frankly shocked that he has approved a Ratatouille ride for Epcot. And I wouldn't be surprised to see him change his mind. I'm not pretending to suggest I know he changed his mind. The success of this film is only now apparent. But I'd be shocked if there weren't discussions in the coming weeks and a potential change of course.

I compare DHS' trajectory now to its trajectory in Summer of 2015. And Epcot's current trajectory compared to a year ago. Things change and Rat isn't even cleared.

Those are all very sound predictions as well. I guess no one will know for sure till the digging starts (except Martin of course, he's magic). From the outside, I am of the point of view that yes the movie will make a bazillion dollars, but that's almost all because people already know and love the Beauty "franchise". There's nothing particularly captivating about the remake that must be experienced in person that isn't already in the parks. If they want to say "hey you like the movie? look at all the stuff we got in the parks!" they can without spending a dime.

Indeed.

And I understand that Ratouille took about 18 months to build. BatB presumably needs 24-30 months based upon Tokyo's schedule.

I also hear BatB isn't actually the same LPS ride system used by Pooh's Hunny Hunt, Mystic Manor, and Rat. So if time is, for some reason, of the essence, they could start Rat this Christmas and open it around the same time as Star Wars Land (and the Mickey LPS...seems like a lot in 2019). BatB would be second half of 2020 or early 2021.

I haven't seen any of Tokyo's BatB. I should get to youtube.

Rat the ride has got one thing over BatB the ride: a proven track record, sky-high customer satisfaction. Rat is a hit, right now. BatB could turn out pretty lacklustre. Wouldn't be the first highly anticipated ride to turn out mediocre.

On another note, to prefer Rat the IP over BatB the IP shows that the ip-fication is not merely driven by expected merch sales or synergy. There is a more independent reasoning (likely correct too, sadly) that the audience wants and expects a theme park environment to be IP driven.
