Hi, Have just booked 8 nights at the Port Orleans Riverside in October....What is the hotel like and how does it compare to the other Moderate Resorts. I have 3 kids 6yr, 3yr & 1 yr old, will there be things for them to do when we are not in the parks???

IMHO POR is the best of the moderates. It is very well themed and no where near as spread out at CB or CS. There is plenty for you and the kids to do there. Activities include water craft rentals, horse drawn carriage, cane pole fishing, playground, and multiple pools. It is also my understanding that you can even go to POFQ and use their pool and playground. For mom and dad there is a very nice lounge complete with a piano player. PORS also has water access to DTD which is a huge plus. PORS also has a great table service restaurant called Boatright's. The banana stuffed french toast there borders on legendary.

Both POR and POFQ are my favorite Mods and close to being my favorite hotels on grounds (I haven't stayed in a Deluxe in like 10 years-- what's the point when you have amazing Mods like these?!) I think the best part about POR is landscaping and atmosphere. POR does have a sit-down restaurant, which I believe, I apologize if I'm mistaken, is where many of the board members love the stuffed french toast ( ?? ). The rooms, in my opinion, are just like any other Mod, or Disney resort for that matter.
My only major issue with the hotel is the size which = multiple bus stops. and POFQ is always the first dropped off and first picked up.

Right on the banana stuffed french toast :slurp:

i am not a big fan of CB and have not stayed in CS, but as LeeSeeBabe said, with mods like POR and POFQ, why go anywhere else. They are wonderful!

The kids will love the pool. They also have a playground. We've only done a moderate once, but I loved having a food court. They really gouge you (for food) at the deluxe hotels.

I've stayed there more than anywhere. I like it a lot. Only thing I miss was, back when it was called Dixie Landings, they had fried chicken in the food court that I used to dream about. It was so good, spiced just right, juicy but not too greasy. It's not there anymore, and the chicken fingers is like listening to a Led Zeppelin cover band when the lead singer's got a head cold. Not even close to the real thing. Not even close to being something that would remind you of something that was close to the real thing.

While we're on the subject of food, I've never had the stuffed French Toast, but the omlette I had at Boatwrights kicked all sorts of keister.

As the allearsnet link will show you, your children will not be bored at Port Orleans Riverside. In fact, I've seen some parents have trouble getting the kids out of the main pool to go back to the parks.

Riverside vs Frenchie

LOL, you should have been asking this question before you booked for 8 days. Riverside is nice but FQ is way more fun and definately easier to get to the dining and pool areas. Its brighter more upbeat...while riverside reminds me of being stuck on tom sawyers island. We have stayed at both and had nice times at riverside, but had great times at FQ. I have never stayed at Coronado Springs but FQ beats every other moderate resort! If you can rebook i would, if not you'll still have a great time..but wander over to the pool and dining area at FQ (its free and legal if your booked at riverside) cause 8 days at riverside is going to get a little old if you dont mix in a few days on the French side! have a great time and make sure you take the boat to downtown disney, it launches near the FQ pool.

We loved the POR! As the others have mentioned, there are so many things to do, and the resort is so pretty and relaxing. We've stayed at several of the properties and POR is our favorite!

Have Fun!!

I agree with all that has been said....
The pool will be enjoyed by all the kids.
As far as busses, I prefer to walk to the main building and get on the bus there rather than use one of the satellites.
We also prefer the Garden District to Alligator Bayou, but both have their charm.

I don't think you'll be at all disappointed with POR. It's simply beautiful. It's so peaceful just to walk around and admire the buildings and landscaping, and there's plenty to do for your kids. We've stayed there, CBR and CSR-- and loved it. Keep in mind that the resort shares facilities with POFQ, so you can use the pool and amenities there too. You can walk or take a boat between the two resorts.

Have a wonderful time.

I guess this is where that saying "different strokes for different folks" applies. We have also stayed at both resorts, and like Riverside far better than FQ. There's lots more to do there than FQ and we find the layout so much nicer. Relax, you're going to love it at the Riverside. Have fun!!

Por

POR is so pituresque and could be quite calming after a busy day in the parks unless of course you dip in to see the Piano Guy (I forgot his name) at night. He is alot of fun and everyone has a great time, especially if you have kids.

They have (I think) on of the best resort shops and the pools are fun for the kids especially. We stay in the Magnolia Section, it just seems quieter and more relaxing to us. We don't mind the little bit of a walk to the main building.

I'll jump on the bandwagon and say that POR is where my family has stayed on our last three visits. The atmosphere is relaxing and rejuvinating. The pool is the best of the Moderates and the layout is the easiest to handle as well. We do head over to POFQ once during our stay, but we prefer staying at POR. You have chosen well...

WOW!! you took all the words out of my mouth!!! This is our favorite resort , (take a peak at my signature) stayed here for the past 11 years every year sometimes twice , it has so much to do there , or nothing at all, the grounds are beautiful, and yes it is a large resort as many will say, but it is to me one of the best moderate's. The dining hall was always a plus for us because they have a great area which there is a table that kids can color , play with blocks and such while you can actually eat( I say this coming from someomewho has a 3 and 6 year old so I understand how nice and rare it is to eat while you food is still hot!!) I'm sure some has a link for pics of POR, great playground , arcade, try to get building 14, 16 or 18 close to everything pool, dining, bus stops!!!! if you have any questions feel free to IM me!!!!
