Port Orleans or Coronado Springs

We will be at Disney World during the week of Thanksgiving this year. We are debating between staying in the French Quarter of the Port Orleans resort (we stayed there on our honeymoon and really enjoyed it) or trying the newer Coronado Springs resort. We are traveling with our 2 and 4 year olds, so if transportation to the parks is considerably more effecient from one or the other resort or a particular food court is considerably better this could matter. Any insights you have would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome, hadleybarth!

I haven't stayed in either resort, but I know we have fans of both around here. It may take a day or two, but I'm sure they'll check in with some helpful advice. In the meantime, wander through the forums...I'm sure there's something of interest to entertain you until the others get here. :)

I perfer Coronado...I've stayed in both...both are good for kids, but I think CS has a better pool area (more for kids to do!) and at the food court, you have a better selection...

Port Orlens-French Quarter is my personal favorite. I highly recomend it and I liked it better than Coronado......but Coronado is also really nice.......i just really like the theming at Port Orleans. And on top of all that Ill be there the week of Thanksgiving too at Port Orleans! Anywhere I'm stayin has gotta be good!

I have only stayed at Dixie Landings, but some friends have stayed at both CS and PO FQ. When I asked them, they said that they would choose PO FQ, they felt that CS was a bit too big, and impersonal.

The only problem with going to PO FQ for thanksgiving is the fact that Disjosh will be there!

:p

I would say its a real close call on these 2 resorts, although for me Coronado definately has better transport, and a better location for shorter journey times to the parks.

If ya love Down Town disney then the easiest way to get their is definately by the boats available at Port Orleans FQ and Port Orleans Riverside(Dixie Landings)......ohterwise a night time trip to Downtown Disney could be an hour long adventure.

I like each of these resorts although I prefer Dixie Landings (Riverside). Coronado definitely has better bus transportation. The stops are usually closer to the entrances of the Parks than the PO so a little less walking is required. Also if you're at CS when there's a convention going on, then the buses are mostly empty whereas PO will have full buses in the morning and evening because the PO buses are serving 2 resorts. The food court at CS is not as family friendly as those at the PO resorts (Dixie wins here). CS requires that you take a ticket upon entering and when you get your food, the person behind the counter stamps your ticket telling what your ordered. There is a nice variety of food here. After you've eaten, on your way out you present your ticket to a cashier (where they tack on a 15% gratuity automatically) pay and you're done. CS has a great hot tub that's good for those aching feet too. So I've probably confused the heck out of you but that's a little of the info on CS. It's also got direct bus service to Boardwalk. I guess I'm leaning toward Coronado.

Personally, I prefer P.O. - French Quarter to Coronado Springs. The children like Coronado Springs. I felt that it was too spread out (long walk to things). Did not care for the food court at all. I think it is a matter of personal preferrence. I do not like being charges gratuity when the server does not serve you anything but drinks and they add 15% to your bill. Rooms are the same size (315 sq ft).

I've never stayed at CS, only visited it once but just didn't care for it. I just love Port Orleans and prefer Riverside. The grounds are really pretty and I love the boat ride to Downtown Disney.

Coronado Springs

We stayed at CS this February and it was grand!!

First time we stayed on a Disney Property, so we were pretty impressed. All of the previous links are from veterans of the Disney properties.

The food court was great (agree about the tipping for a straw or drink) and the folks were curtious (as usual for CM's).

But it was the layout that was fantastic. The courtyard was fantastic, the way everything flowed into the Mayan theme was great.

The Pool at PO has had quite the problems lately, but the pool at CS has not had a problem to my knowledge as yet.

Quite the decision you have to make, but either way, I'm sure you'll be pleased.

Cheers,
Denis

I like CS so much I made it my user ID.... Try the O.J. in the A.M.! Food is great....people are nice.....remote location that is not in the middle of everything. You're best choice....P.S. Friday after Tgiving is probably one of the slowest days of the year in MK.:)

Hadleybarth, take this from someone whos been to WDW 6 times and everytime at a dif resort........no I havent stayed at Coranado Springs but PO is just the best......Its smaller than most the other resorts so its less hustle and bustle w/ ppl everywhere and kids running amuck. As for the pool, how do u have probs with a pool.....PO has a great themed pool with a serpents tongue for a water slide. how can ya beat that?!

Pool Problems - Defined

DJ - here is what I had read.

Baby Ruths floating in the pool.

Keep in mind - I read that in an unfavorable report from a non-us discussion member about PO.

I haven't been to PO as yet, so it's just a relay for information.

Seems like the pool was closed for a bit each day (during a 5 day period), whilst the Baby Ruths were extricated from the water.

Have stayed at CS, but can't recall any Baby Ruth stories

Hope that clears it up a bit

Cheers,
Denis

You say that(closing the pool for extricating)as if it's a bad thing!! You really can't blame the resort for the ummm... behavior of certain guests.;)

Thats happend when I was at al star sports and Carribean Beach........It is disgusting byt its in no way the resorts fault...and they clean the thng with enough chemicals to make a small child shrivel up! If ya didnt wanna use that pool there are others right nexy door at Dixie Landings.
