Port Orleans French Quarter

I have a couple of questions...I am 18 and will be going to Disney World with three of my friends (18, 17, 17) in June/July. We will not have a car, so buses will be our main mode of transportation. I have researched and so far it looks like the POFQ is the best choice for us....I've read that the buses are fast, and the boat ride to DTD is a fun experience. What do you all think? We have all been to Disney before, they have never stayed on property and I have only stayed on property once with my family. We are on a budget, so a value or moderate resort is what we can afford. Do you think that the POFQ is the best way to go? And also, should we use the Magical Express from the airport or can we carry our own luggage? And also anyone who has stayed at the POFQ please tell me how you liked it and what you think I should know :animwink: Thank you very much!

I can't speak for everyone about the resorts, but if you are on a budget you should invest in a value budget resort, like All-Star. Port Orleans is a moderately-priced resort, but if you budget allows, then by all means. I've stayed at Port Orleans, back in 1993, and it was a great experience. Very festive and tons of Southern flair and hospitality and it felt I was back in Nawlins.

As for transporation, Disney does transporation right. I'm sure you will find no complaints. You won't wait no more than 10 - 15 minutes for a bus. It's all Disney magic. I mean they are all controled via GPS -- and that includes the monorail, boats and buses.

I was at WDW in October 2007 and remarked how smooth the transporation was. I mean, I took a bus to a park, then saw a monorail waiting for me. Another time I waited less than 5 minutes to pick up a bus after Pleasure Island closed.

Don't worry --

We love POFQ. It's our second favorite resort, next to the Poly. You'll like the transportation. And it's a small resort, so the layout is more compact and walking to your room at the end of the evening is less troublesome. It's also more quiet than the value resorts. I think you picked a great one! Be sure to get the beignets!:D

If you can afford POFQ than go for it. (I'm personally not a fan of the values). It is small with easy walking everywhere. And I would recommend magical express in a heartbeat. It is fast and very convenient. I hope this helps.

I have stayed at POFQ and POP Century and I think you will be happy with the transportation from POP and the prices are better.

I strongly agree with this. The transportation at the POP is PHENOMENAL! We never really waited for a bus longer than 5 minutes and the rides were not that long. For the savings, the POP may be well worth it.

Being of comparable age, I just turned 19, I know that I would rather spend my money elsewhere: souvenirs, a nicer meal, etc. Just consider all of the options because I have been working on a trip for me and friends for a while now and the savings at the POP are well worth it. :)

We absolutely love POFQ. There really isn't anything to say except positives. We love that the resort is more compact, is very quiet and peaceful. When you walk the grounds you forget that you're at DW.The pool is nice, the bus system is good, along with the boat to DTD. You can also rent bikes for the paths connecting POFQ and POR, or take a horsedrawn carriage ride. You cannot go wrong with htis resort. IMO it's one of the best that Disney offers.

I stayed at POFQ last August and absolutely loved it! I've stayed at CBR, POP, ASMu, ASSp (and a night at the Poly) and thought that POFQ was by far the best of them. Yes, it was more money but to me it was worth it. The next time I go I will stay there (unless I can figure out a way to afford AKL or WL ).

I also used the Magical Express as well and thought that was top notch. I will use it again in the future. It made traveling a little easier and convenient.

I haven't stayed at POFQ yet but I've got plenty of experience at POP. For a group of young adult friends I'd think POP would be great. The theming is so fun, youthful without being overly kiddie, and upbeat. I would think it would be perfect for your trip with your friends. Amenities are great. The shop & food court area are wonderful. The difference between POP and POFQ for my upcoming May trip is roughly $800 if I remember correctly. If there's 4 of you that comes out to $200 each. That'd be $200 of spending money for the shops for each of ya! Oooor, book a splurge at a spa or a tour. There's lots to be done with the money saved.

Have fun!

Thanks guys, I think I'll look into POP as well if it can save us a lot of money. We can afford POFQ but extra money is always good lol

My suggestion is to look at a Value, purely because POFQ is more family orientated. If you don't mind familkies and can afford POFQ - then go for it - its a beautiful resort

While POFQ is a beautiful resort, at your age I think you would have just as much fun at POP and save a lot of money. Decide if you are only going to be at the room or resort mostly to just sleep and shower(I hope):lol:and change clothes and if you are, then POP is the way to go. we love POP......
