Honestly, never noticed them much during our trip Dec 7th-13th which I was very worried about given the reaction of many here. We stayed at poly so the resorts weren't the issue.

I saw the occasional cheerleader and they were all well behaved. Perhaps we got lucky.

Nevertheless I avoided it this year on purpose...after much debate. I just didn't want to chance it.

Yeah, it's all about timing. There was only two instances of us having trouble with them. The first was with a group of 3 or 4 boys that were eating by us at that old fry stand by Splash Mountain while they used very profane language in front of our children. I went over and said something to them and they stopped. The second time was when we did our ritual of being the last ones on the HM. Well, it was the 4 of us, a lady and her two teenaged sons and a group of about 8-9 Pop Warner cheerleaders. They made it so bad before we got into the stretching room that we asked the CM if we could wait back and let them go through. She let us wait in the butlers hallway, which was my only time being backstage, very cool.

wasn't there a gigantically fight at the all star a few years back between rival pop warner teams? This is a bad thing for the guests going to the parks those days and also staying at the hotels. They must be bringing any awful lot of $ for Disney to be putting up with them. Bottom line is $ here folks. They fill alot of rooms and they spend alot of money so that offsets bringing misery on other guests.:brick:

We booked a short trip to be there for the Xmas day parade taping which historically is the first weekend in December. Any word on if the taping is likely to be then?

I know Pop Warner groups usually stay at the All-Stars/Pop but what about overflow...is it POFQ or POR?

We have taken many trips during Pop Warner and never had any problems at all. We usually would stay in Pop Century or AKL/WL; we rarely saw them in the parks and when we did they were no trouble.

I believe the group room allocations are in All-Star Sports first, and then the other All-Stars and then POR as a possible upgrade for families who can afford to pay a little extra. I believe Disney tries to keep groups out of Pop Century as much as it can.

DW and I were at PORS last year. Got back to the hotel only to find 6 charter bus loads of football players and obnoxious cheerleaders. Thank God we were checking out the next day. Bought DVC so we didn't have to deal with that again.

Okay, enough said. That's why I love these forums, you get honest advice. I just called and switched from POR to AKL. Still got a good AP code rate. Maybe we would have no problems, and you can't avoid what happens in the parks, but don't want to beg trouble at the resort.

it amazes me that the pop warner kids are frequently complained about (i've been there when they're there as well and have noticed issues) but when the allstar cheerleaders and dancers compete at the same venue for usasf worlds at the end of april every year you never hear about the same kinds of problems. maybe it's because the allstars (who come from all over the world literally) compete over a shorter amount of time and don't have as much down time as the pop warner kids. idk...just my thoughts. as a parent who had the expense of a child competing at the end of april with the allstars i can confirm that these types of weekends are BIG money makers for wdw.

I have been involved in the world of competitive cheerleading for over 20 years and I am also a certified judge who has worked with Pop Warner, among other organizations. A lot of Pop Warner cheerleaders are involved with All Star teams, most squads practice year round. Competition season is from October - May. Besides Pop Warner Nationals and USASF World, UCA also holds HS Nationals as well as the College Nationals at WDW. Yes, it brings in an enormous amount of people but all of these events also bring in an enormous amount of money!!

If you want to avoid these groups than I would suggest not traveling around the following dates (these are just the competition dates, most teams will be there for 2/3 days before/after the competition:

December 3 - 10, 2011 : Pop Warner Nationals
January 13-15, 2012 : UCA & UDA College Nationals
February 11-12,2012: UCA & UDA High School Nationals
March 10-12, 2012 : UCA & UDA All Star Nationals
April 28-29, 2012 : USASF All Star Worlds

Keep in mind that not ALL teams stay at Value resorts, yes, the majority may, but a good deal of them also utilize the Moderate resorts.
If anyone has any questions about any of this, feel free to message me.

I will be taking a student group down for the YES program for the 2nd year just as Pop Warner is getting started (Nov. 30th- Dec. 4th) AND staying at All-Star Sports (seems to be Pop Warner headquarters). I think we get out before they get things stirred up too bad. The pool bars are filled up with parents during the weekend evenings, but they don't seem to be getting out to the parks while we are there.

Not only that, but some teams don't even stay in Disney resorts. This past March we stayed at the Best Western down by DTD along with two other squads, and the other hotels on that strip were booked as well.

Pop warner kids are complained about more because they are more disruptive in not only the parks but at all hours of the day in the hotels. I don't remember hearing about the cheerleaders creating fights at the hotels.

Why don"t they build another resort just for groups...they can use it year round for Pop Warner, cheerleaders, Brazilian tour groups, and whatever else comes along!! That would save everyone from having to endure the loud, rude, obnoxious, unchapperoned disturbances! Wishful thinking!

I thought they built the sports hotels and other all stars for the various groups.

Not surprising at all. As much as we dislike them, Pop Warner is a huge money-maker for Disney, and brings a lot of people into the resort during an otherwise quiet time of year. This news was surely to be expected.

Well is that time of the year quiet because of pop warner or just because it is early dec?
