I love the All Star Resorts but from what I read about Pop Century alot of reviews say its not that good. Can people prove or disprove this for me. I want to stay here

Just kind of echoing what has been said. I think all the resorts are on par with each other. Each has pros and cons in comparison, but POP is not inferior. I do think that POP had a much more negative pre-opening buzz. Most seemed pleasantly surprised when things actually started operating. We are planning on staying at POP come this summer when we go!

We stayed in an 80s building, 3 doors from the Roger Rabbit icon and not far from the computer pool. It took less than 5 mins to get to the food court and about the same to get to the buses. You learn shortcuts from what the front desk tells you to take. We cut pass the playground and were just a few ft from the food court.

I will staying at the Pop in a couple months. Does anyone have recommendations on where to stay (which building) or where not to stay.

Any other hints/ideas about the Pop?

We just got back and stayed at Pop from 2/7 to 2/12 and we had no complaints. If you've got the extra cash though, I'd recommend staying in the preferred locations (60's section). After a long day of walking in the parks or downtown, it was worth the extra money for us to not have to walk so far once we were at the resort.

preferred rooms

We will be staying at the Pop resort next month. As of right now we am reserved for a standard room but after reading the posts I think I will call and 'upgrade' to a preferred room. Which builidings are the preferred ones? Is there one that people think is the best location to try and ask for. We usually stay at POR so this is our first time at the pop. While we are excited to try a new place I am a little unsettled not being familiar with the layout. About how far is it to buses, pool and food court from the preferred rooms? thanks for any info you can pass along.

Just a quick question...

I heard that the noise quality is better at the All Stars than at Pop Centruy...

For example:

In The Unofficial Guide for WDW it says that "many readers have complained that soundproofing between rooms is poor"

Going on to give an example of a woman who could hear her neighbor's wake up call in the next room...

Having stayed at the All Star Music resort before, I know I never encountered that kind of problem.

Anyone have an opinion on that?

YES. POP is NOT WORTH IT. I've had to endure 2 stays there... the other All stars are far superior. The soundproofing is non-existant! it is MUCH LOUDER than ANY of the other allstars!

Also: The buildings and general area is much closer together, meaning for a such a large quantity of people in one place. If its booked, you feel like you never left the parks... people EVERYWHERE... :animwink:

Also, the traffic flow if you are staying there over a holiday to POP is non-existant... if you don't use disney transportation, good luck getting back to the resort. I have a horror story on that one over the first New years when they had opened.

I've heard comments about the pools, Not sure if its as big as the others at the other all stars... Someone else can address here.

When we go... and its often... we try to stay away from POP if we are going on a "cheap" trip.

We are big All Star folks as well, and thought we try Pop on our next trip in May. Some of these posts have me concerned. Curious we you wont go back.

We stayed in the 50's building in Jan near Lady and we were at the buses in less than 5 minutes, the food court was even closer. I would request the 50's again, even though my wife would like to try other buildings, to see the decor, I am not much of a fan of starting my day with a big walk, and ending it with a big walk.
Sorry - I did not know I posted in this one. Oh well, still loved the resort.

I have stayed at both ASM and PC and, in my humble opinion, PC is better. I didn't care for the sharing of buses at All Star and the room was showing signs of wear and tear. I absolutely love PC for the money.

I've seen people on these boards complain about the Grand Floridian. Not saying their reasons for complaining were unfounded, but I am saying that nothing is perfect. Generally, however, Disney is at least 98% perfect, and you will find that at Pop Century. At the end of the day, they are beds to sleep in. I go to Disney for the parks, first and foremost. And at my college student budget, $300/night for a bed at the Grand Floridian is not worth it.

I like the AS resorts (well, I haven't stayed at Music, so....) and Pop. I have to agree that the AS resorts do show more wear-and-tear than Pop Century, and that's to be expected. I like the AS food courts and separate gift shop more than Pop's food court/gift shop combo, but I like that Pop has it's own bus, whereas you may have to share a bus at the All Star's.

That being said, I don't think I'll have a reason to be staying at any Value resort anytime soon - DVC member now. And honestly, we were tired of having to deal with rude guests, smoking outside our room, and lots of noisy/unruly kids at the All Stars. I don't know if we simply had some bad luck or if it's a larger trend. Our biggest pet peeve is when you stay in a No Smoking room, and have to endure someone puffing a pack of smokes away everyday 10 feet from your door.

i didnt like anything about PC i will never resort hop there or stay there again. the whole resort -i just didnt like it!!

everything is different -the rooms are smaller, etc. everything in this resort is not for me:zipit: !!
when people talk about the bus system and say how good it is to have one stop and there are always buses picking people up when in fact i found the bus system to be worse than the all stars - i would take the all stars bus service over PC anyday :)

While I can't speak about any of the All Star resorts, we loved Pop. We stayed there for 6 nights in October and thought it was wonderful. The theming is great and even though things look far apart on the map everything is pretty close together.

I have stayed at POP and All Star Movies and I have to say that everybody has got good points about POP but for me when I go to Disney I want to be surrounded by Disney and
All Star Movies makes you fell that way with all the large characters like Buzz and Woody. Also the Fantasia pool is nicer then POPs pools. One more point is McDonalds is down the street and its nice to hit the drive in before you get back to your room.:hurl:

No characters at Pop?

Pop has Baloo and Mowgli, and Lady and the Tramp (not to mention Roger Rabbit, a giant Mickey telephone, and, for your Pixar loving...Mr. and Mrs. Potatohead  )

I am a die hard All Star Sports fan, but I have stayed at Pop Century; it was a pleasant stay, however it is almost exactly like the All Stars except the food court and gift shop are in the same room. It is pretty nice if you stay close to the bus stops and lobby area.
