How's the Disney transportation at Pop Century compared to other resorts? I know All-Star has good transportation, but transportation at Wilderness Lodge is dodgy. Thanks!

We didn't use the transportation since we drove, but I would imagine its better than All Stars since it doesn't have to stop at 3 resorts.

The POP does have some transportation problems. Consider that they have 2,880 rooms and only one bus stop. Each of the All-Star Resorts (Sports, Music & Movies) each have 1,920 rooms and each resort has their own bus stop. During the busy times (i.e. the morning rush) the All-Star buses run direct routes from each resort to each of the parks therefore they do not stop at each resort. So, for example, let's be conservative and say that only 2 people are staying in each room and that each resort is full. Therefore, at POP you have 5,760 people waiting at the bus stop while at any of the All-Stars you have 3,840 with which to wait.

As the math demonstrates, you always have 50% more people to transport at the POP than at any of the All-Stars. We've stayed at the POP several times and have observed this bus transport deal first hand. They do a great job at the POP but the bottom line is that All-Star Resorts are far superior to the POP in the category of bus transportation. In reality, the POP actually has an average bus load increase of 64% over the All-Star Resorts. If you decide to stay at POP, just be patient.

I don't think is was luck. As I said they do a great job at the POP and I would agree with you that their bus transportation is very good. However, as the original poster asked, I was making a comparison between the POP and the All-Stars. It's just a matter of capacity, time and distance.

We stayed at POP in July ,the 2nd- 10th.We rent a car because we do more then just Disney ,like Universal, the Malls,Off Property Resturants and Wal-Mart.

The only time we used the bus was when we traveled to the Magic Kingdom, they ran about 15 to 20 mins (now if they can fix the shade over the waiting area for the buses).

We will be at POP Century again April 13th thru April 20 2005 for the sneak AP of Soar'n and the Flower and Garden Show. :sohappy: :sohappy:

I can't speak for any of the All Star's since I never stayed there; however, my son and I stayed at Pop at the end of January and never had to wait for more than 10 minutes for a bus getting to any of the Parks. When MK closed, there was usually a line and people were crammed into the bus. But, there was always another bus shortly after to take those who didn't make it onto the first one. I love PoP!!

Hey - we will be at Pop 4/17 - 4/24! There will be 9 of us all together - if you see a large group of people that look and sound like they are from upstate NY (because we are) and there is an adorbale little Asian baby running around with them (that is my daughter) - that will be us!!!!

9? ha.... got ya beat there, we will have about 18 i think. i can hardly wait *note the sarcasm* heck, we will need 1/2 a bus ourselves.

do the busses run directly from POP to the parks, or do they make stops along the way?

My wife and I have stayed at POP twice and have only had a bus issue once--coming home from MNSSHP there were enough people waiting in line that we watched 5-6 buses load before it was our turn. That was tough when it was already past midnight when we started waiting. :snore:

Other than that, we've always had short wait times. Now our experience could be better because the two times we were there it was December and October AND we are park commandos who leave every morning as soon as the buses start running for EMH. We've never gotten on a bus there after about 7:30 a.m.

Wow, Woody. When I disagree with you, I *really* disagree with you, LOL.

Bus service at Pop is far, far superior to the All-Stars. Woody's math is theoretically correct, but it ignores the fact that the bus system is dynamic. There aren't fixed numbers of busses on each route so the math doesn't follow.

I have been standing on line waiting for the bus at MK's closing back to Pop and had up to three busses appear at once and allow people to board all three busses simultaniously. There are people walking around with radios to tell incoming busses which resort to turn to - they keep extra busses handy.

This also works the other way around - you never have to wait long after one bus comes for the next one if because of EMH or a MK party from Pop to the parks because if there are people left the driver radios in and another one is usually there within five minutes.

I have stayed at Pop several times and always used the bus system exclusively, and have never waited more than 20 minutes, the stated wait time, and usually much, much less. And ALL trips are direct (except I do believe sometimes they combine the AK/Blizzard beach routes during the day), unlike All-Stars. As Woody pointed out, during PEAK hours they often run individual busses, but the rest of the time they don't.

I talked to several families on busses to and from Pop who commented about how much better the bus service was at Pop because of this. I can't remember if it's Movies or Music that's the first/last stop all the time (I *think* it was Movies), but one guy told me that no one at that resort got a seat during his entire vacaction because by the time they picked up the other two resorts there was never any room.

To give you an idea of travel times, it's less than five minutes to Epcot or MGM, about 7 to AK, and about 12 to MK (depending on the traffic). These are the averages I experienced consistently over several trips.

Pop busses rule...and indeed, sometimes statistics, though sound, lie. ;)

I was at the Pop Century last July and the transportation was great. Never had to wait more than 10 minutes for a bus. The best part is that at the end of a long day, you go straight to your hotel. Not like the All-Stars where you share the transportation. This definitely made a difference when we had an e-ride night end at 2:00am :D

Next WDW Trip: July 8 - July 14 Beach Club :D :sohappy: :D :sohappy: :D :sohappy:

Well said AEfx!! I always respect your opinion on here Woody but I too have to disagree with you on this one. POP transportation is great. While the station at the resort could be covered for those long, hot summer days, it's not vital. We never waited more than 10 minutes either at the resort or at a park and in high volume times more than one bus was always available. We actually got to sit in a seat most times last year. The only downfall I saw to POP's busses is that they are at the far end of the bus pick-up's at every park which means you have to walk a little farther at the end of the day to get that exclusive advantage of having your own resort bus. So just plan accordingly at the end of your long day.

I can back up Simba One: last October, I found the bus service at Pop to be spectacular except coming back from MNSSHP on a Sunday night. The line to back to Pop was MUCH longer than any other resort. It actually filled the entire queue area and starting running back past the other resorts' waiting areas. It wasn't much better leaving the MK the night before (Saturday). Of course, you have to expect lines at those times, but this was excessive. Having said that, I am very happily going to be staying at Pop again this October. :)

Is there a route to the Boardwalk from Pop Century? If not, any suggestions on how to go about getting there?
No. Your best bet to get from resort to resort is find out which park (or DTD) is closest to your resort and change busses there. It the case of the Boardwalk I have found MGM to be the best stop. From there you can walk, take the boat or a bus to Boardwalk. If you leave Boardwalk past MGM’s closing you can take a bus to DTD and change there.
