Pop Century ?

How's the Disney transportation at Pop Century compared to other resorts? I know All-Star has good transportation, but transportation at Wilderness Lodge is dodgy. Thanks!

Wow, Woody. When I disagree with you, I *really* disagree with you, LOL.

Bus service at Pop is far, far superior to the All-Stars. Woody's math is theoretically correct, but it ignores the fact that the bus system is dynamic. There aren't fixed numbers of busses on each route so the math doesn't follow. Pop busses rule...and indeed, sometimes statistics, though sound, lie.

You are correct. The bus system is dynamic and it works very well. However, the math doesn't lie as you suggest. I will reiterate that WDW transportation does a great job with the buses at POP. The bottom line is that no matter how you slice it, the queues at POP are always bigger than the queues at All-Stars. With 3 bus stops, the All-Star Resorts can load and move more people than the single stop at POP in any given time frame.

I too have experienced the bus transportation at POP and I've found it to be very good. I have no complaints. I have also experienced the bus transportation at the All-Star Resorts (all of them) and found it to be excellent. Knowing how to use the bus system at WDW is important if you desire to use your time wisely.

I have been standing on line waiting for the bus at MK's closing back to Pop and had up to three busses appear at once and allow people to board all three busses simultaniously. There are people walking around with radios to tell incoming busses which resort to turn to - they keep extra busses handy.

Ahh, a perfect example! Let's follow through with the above scenario. Three buses have just loaded up at MK and all head back to POP. As we know, there is only one bus stop at POP for the MK . If POP stops for the AK, Epcot and MGM are all open then all the buses have a spot to unload. But if those stops are not open, then the MK buses will have to queue to unload! At the All-Stars the buses have more room to both load and unload because they have three separate stops and much higher capacity. Some people think that the buses at the All-Stars always load and unload in the order of Sports, Music and Movies. Actually, they are much more creative, or should I say dynamic. As I stated before, the All-Stars have a significant advantage in capacity for buses to load and unload. Also, the All-Stars has a lot more room to stage buses for pickups. The POP is very cramped for guest parking and doesn't have the luxury of space for staging buses as does the All-Stars.

Well said AEfx!! I always respect your opinion on here Woody but I too have to disagree with you on this one. POP transportation is great. While the station at the resort could be covered for those long, hot summer days, it's not vital. We never waited more than 10 minutes either at the resort or at a park and in high volume times more than one bus was always available. We actually got to sit in a seat most times last year. The only downfall I saw to POP's busses is that they are at the far end of the bus pick-up's at every park which means you have to walk a little farther at the end of the day to get that exclusive advantage of having your own resort bus. So just plan accordingly at the end of your long day.

I don't think we disagree. I too think that POP bus transportation is great! However, I think that the All-Star Resort bus transportation is better. My conclusions are based upon my personal experience and observations as a repeat guest at both resorts.

Woody, the size of the lines are irrelevant. It's how quickly you get from one place to another.

You are talking about appearance, not function.

By their very nature, since Pop has one stop and All-Stars generally have three, you will wait less time.

Any way you slice it, three resorts are sharing a bus line, versus one. The line may be visibly longer at times because they aren't spread across three bus stops, like at the MK.

Resort parking is irrelevant. I'm simply stating that the travel between the parks and Pop is more efficent than the All-Stars under most circumstances. It's a complex issue, but you are confusing it with jargon and unrelated information.

The Pop bus system ALWAYS goes direct - at 2PM when I want to take a break in my room between parks, I get on the bus, it drops me off at Pop. At night, at peak times, yes, the appearance of the lines from the parks to Pop may be deciving, but when they line up three busses at once (which I've seen time and time again) and load them simultaniously, any disadvantage is mitigated.

Pop rules, hands down. :)

AEfx (who contends that this will all change when the 2nd half of Pop is done, and they will likely have to share busses)

yup Tyler could tell you...

The busses at pop are fantastic, you practically have your own Bus station... I really love the set up for the bus stop... it works so well and isnt just that... a stop... The busses are extremely efficient and waiting for them kind of makes you feel like your already in the theme park (maybe it the que?) the transportation is one of the big reasons I love this resort. :)

Tyler is tired of debating... lol... people can have thier own perceived opinions, and that's fine. They're all WRONG, but it's all good... (just kidding)

But, old habits die hard... so let me offer a few different points of view.

Y'all keep referring to the MK. Well... what about Studios, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom? They never split the All-Stars at night. Downtown is all 3, but splits them Sp/Mu on one bus, Movies on its own 90% of the time between 6-11pm.

Another thing to consider... GROUPS. The All-Stars is infamous for getting the large groups. Just the other day we had Cheerleaders. They were clogging up the All-Star buses with thier large groups, causing some delays.

Yes, you are wise to schedule around the cheerleaders and the Pop Warner Football and Baseball groups, etc. But, with a little planning, it can be done. As always, your advice is excellent Invero.

I think that's my biggest reason besides the always-direct bus line (among many others, from the "newness" of the rooms on down) that I prefer Pop. Although I have heard scattered reports of Pop doing groups as overflow from the All-Stars, the frequency is much, much less.

54 days an counting! :)
