Pop Century and air conditioning

Hi all! My last trip at Pop was 08/2008. I remember my last stay there, my family and sister's family had adjoing rooms. Her room was always ice cold and mine was steaming hot. I know previously that the air conditioner there was motion sensored, can anyone tell me if it still is?

We had connecting rooms at the beginning of the month, each had a thermostat and we were able to keep the rooms at a perfect temperature for us, no problem at all.

The only problem we ever had with the AC at Pop Century was that we get it set to a temp we like & when we leave for the day, housekeeping always seems to change it. It seems to happen more when we go in January, when its cooler out, we come back & the room is freezing.

yes the air/heat is motion sensitive.... if your adjoining room was good but yours hot then it begs the question did you try to adjust your themostat? get it set to your comfort range (after you set it to the temp you think you want it might take several hours to regulate itself). then hang a little note by the themostat requesting that NO ONE touch it until you check out.

The air controllers have motion sensors. After a period of inactivity in the room, they shut off. All to save energy. The sensors are in the corner opposite of the door.

This has happened to me before as well. I've solved the problem by leaving a post-it note over the thermostat.

I don't know if this will work at the Disney resorts but I figured this out this weekend. The problem we've had is this: We like to sleep with the room cool. At home, the house is at about 66-68 from 12am-5am. In hotels, even though the thermostat would be set for 67, it would shut off well before the room is cool. At the hotel we were at this weekend(marriott at world center in orlando), the thermostat was just under the vent. So I changed the AUTO function to just ON. That way the room really was able to be cooled.

In the past, at PCR, I set it to a cool temp around dinner time. By bed time, it's cool in the room.

I have a suggestion for you:

If the rooms are motion sensitive (which I believe they still are), Buy a Helium Filled Balloon and park it in the vicinity of the motion sensor. This should keep the sensor from detecting no movement and therefore should not shut off.

Actually that may have the opposite effect. By blocking the sensor with a stationary object the sensor would never sense movement and thus never turn on the AC. A more effect alternative would be to tie the balloon to the AC vent so that the blowing air would move the balloon around making the sensor think there is someone in the room and not shut off the AC.

I never said block it. I said "in the vicinity of".

I do know that some of the resorts in Disney run off of motion sensors -- but I honestly dont think Pop's do...

We've stayed there 5+ times and when we're out of the room all day it's still nice and cool when we come back.

I do know Coronado Springs uses them because it's not cool at all when you return to their rooms after a hot day.

I've run into that problem many times during my trips to WDW, Mousekeeping will adjust the thermostat either for their comfort or to a standard setting all rooms are supposed to be set to. We would often set the thermostat to a temp we like and when we got back to the room after spending time in the hot sun we would find it rather warm in comparison to how we left it. :brick:

Yes the a/c's are still motion controlled.
Most of if not all are now.
Just stayed in Coronado Springs again, they are motion controlled.

Any way to fix this while you are sleeping so that it doesnt shut off? Obviously once you have gone to sleep you arent going to be moving around but you are still present in the room.

I like it super cold at night. If I wake up and I'm all sweaty and hot, I am not going to be a happy Sleeping Beauty.

Not old, just vintage.
I hate the motion sensor thermostats. The ones at Coronado are the worst. I haven't had that much trouble at Pop Century though. I usually will buy a Mickey balloon to keep motion in the room and will put a note on the thermostat to keep the Mousekeepers from touching it. I've also heard of people attaching something to the ceiling fan and then turning it on to provide constant movement in the room. Also, there is a way to override the motion sensors at some of the resorts but I don't know if it works at all of the resorts though. If you push the power button and the down arrow at the same time "BP" should appear on the screen and then you can set your own temp. I think you have to re-do the bypass every 24 hours though.

I'll have to try that tomorrow when I check in at Pop, I'll post here if it works.
