Pool Hopping

I have heard some rumors that resort guests are not aloud to pool hop anymore. Is this true? If it is has anyone been caught and how did Disney deal with the situation? I ask because it has been an extremely long time since I have pool hopped and I would love to hop from pool to pool this March:)

Yeah, it's a shame they've just now disallowed pool hopping after all these years of encouraging it. The really rotten part is that not only do they kick you out, but they confiscate your towel and swimsuit. Watershoes, too. Make sure you bring a spare set of clothes or

Before this thread gets out of hand and becomes a debate of moral character (and ultimately closed), here are the facts...

I cannot recall anytime in the recent past (10+ years) that Disney has allowed any sort of pool hopping from one resort to another. So I am not exactly sure where you saw that they recently aren't allowing this. The official and published rule is that the pools at each resort are for the exclusive use of the guests at that particular resort. So if you are staying at the Polynesian, then you are supposed to use the two pools at the Polynesian and none of the others on property. Likewise, no one from other resorts should be swimming at your pool as well. The only exception to this rule is for DVC members. DVC members are allowed to pool hop with exceptions being to Yacht/Beach, Contemporary, and Animal Kingdom Lodge. Should you be at another pool when you don't belong there, you would probably be asked to leave if they were to come around and checked room keys. At the Yacht and Beach club, you get a wristband when you get to the pool area (and get towels) due to the popularity and large amount of people who have tried to sneak in there.

I asked a simple question If you cannot reply to the initial question without being facetious, please don't bother spamming my thread with your .02 cents.

I never understood pool hopping. Can't you swim in anything thats filled with water? What makes one pool better than another?

Ditto. I won't get into the moral debate about pool hopping, but from a practical standpoint, I don't see the point. You're spending the time traveling from resort to resort just to swim in a pool. Sure some pools look prettier than others but at the end of the day, all it is is a big hole in the ground with water in it. No matter what shape the pool is, or what pretty scenery is around it, all you are doing is splashing around in water, and I just don't see how it is worth the time spent just to travel from hotel to hotel, when that time could be much better spent on other things. Spend that much more time swimming in the pool at your hotel, or spend some of that extra time hopping to another resort to eat at the restaraunt there, etc.

Like I said, I won't get into the moral debate, but if you choose to do it, I think it's a huge waste of time.

Value resorts have pretty simple, straight forward pools. The moderates have a bit more theming and small-ish slide. The deluxe pools are more elaborate with (sometimes) bigger slides & zero entry areas. In the case of Yacht & Beach Club, they have Stormalong Bay which is like a mini-water park. Awesome awesome pool. So yeah, there's reasons Disney resort guests might try pool hopping. It is, however, against the rules and not allowed.

This is why people do it. Not all the pools are created equal, but that is part of the reason one resort costs more than another. I understand some people's desire to hop, but I also understand why Disney doesn't allow it. If there were no rules to stop hopping then some pools would be so crowded that the people spending the money to stay there wouldn't be able to enjoy it.

Oh! Also to the OP, don't take offense to the silly remarks and commenting about the question you asked. Pool hopping is one of those hot topics that get people fired-up sorta like the refillable mugs, whether to take kids out of school for vacation, etc. Some topics seem to invoke more of a moral debate and people get pretty wound-up sometimes. Genuine questions aren't a bad thing. Didn't want you to take the silly comments personal or anything. When you see certain topics take off like a wildfire more than once and another thread gets (innocently) started then lots of folks will come with their popcorn to see the drama unfold. LOL!

I am now in, officially, before the lock.

For the record: pool hopping *IS* allowed between the Port Orleans resorts (Riverside and French Quarter).

Now I'll sit back and watch the fireworks.

I plan on pool hopping when I'm down there in a few weeks. I'm staying at the Wilderness Lodge but I prefer the pool at the Grand Floridian, so I'm going to grab myself a seat by the pool, take my refillable mug that I bought 15 years ago, fill it up at the GF's food court (multiple times), go for a swim. I'm thinking about sneaking up into the concierge floor (with no shoes on mind you) and filling up a bag full of free food. Then, I'm going to lay out in one of the lounge chairs by the pool, smoking a cigarette (even though I don't smoke), and enjoy a nice long day of sunbathing.

Oh yeah - I also plan on stealing my towel, and if the opportunity presents itself, someone's bathrobe when they're not looking.
