Polynesian Resort?

I am planning my first visit in June for 7 nights and I would really like to stay at any one of the deluxe resorts but they all seem nice. I am interested in the Polynesian Resort but is it worth it?? I want to stay at a resort with a beach and water sports but I am just having a difficult time trying to make a choice. Please give me some advice should I go for the Polynesian Resort? I am taking my 6 year old son and need a resort he would enjoy.

congrads on booking your trip! Every year I stay at the Yacht and Beach Club and it is by far in my opinion the top of the resorts in relation to luxury and offerings. The pool is amazing with sand on the bottom and a huge water slide. Your son will have tons of fun. You can also walk over to the Boardawalk hotel from the hotel if you would like. Dont get me wrong the Poly is great too but I would choose Y&B anyday!! Hope that helps?

The last time there was a thread about the Poly, someone stated it is the only hotel without a hotub. It didn't the last time I went and I havent' heard of any construction of one either. It is by far my favorite resort and my boys enjoyed it too. They couldn't wait to get back to the room so they could go in the pools and watch the Electrical Water Pageant and the fireworks. I think it's magical for them because they could see the Magic Kingdom from the Poly and enjoy the other things. At the time we went the boys were 4 and 7 and 11.

The last three years we stayed there. It is by far my favorite resort. In case your not familiar with it however, the beach is fun but you can't go in the water. With the volcano pool and the convenince of the monorail system, it is by far the best resort we have ever stayed at. You son should love it. I believe the Contemporary has a beach that you can use but I'm not positive on that one? Any help>?

Please be aware that there is NO SWIMMING at any of the WDW beaches! If you're interested in water sports, the Polynesian might be a better choice. But the B&YC does have a fishing trip from their Marina. And you can watch the aerial fireworks from Epcot...also walk back and forth.

Is your son a strong swimmer? Stormalong Bay is fun, but I would beware of The Vortex if he is a non or weak swimmer! And unless you are going to go down the slide before him everytime, it's a long way from the pool to the top, so he would be out of your sight for a while. My son is almost 10, and has been swimming for years, so I felt comfortable letting him go on his own (with me waiting below at the pool, of course!)

First of all, Welcome!

I would say the Polynesian is the best choice of the deluxes for a 6 year old. The convienience of the monorail for those mid day breaks at the pool is unsurpassed. The Volcano pool is way cool and has a nice gradual walk in for young kids, plus a very cool slide. We stayed there last year and loved it. There's agreat character breakfast at O'hana's, they have a marina for watersports and just a very inviting, relaxing atmosphere. Do check out the website!! It's what made me make the decision to go there! I just returned from my first trip to the Polynesian....it is the best resort in my opinion. Your 6 year old will most likely love the volcano pool. Have a great trip!

The polynesian will be worth it to your 6 year old for one good reason.....CONVENIENCE. It is a 5-10 minute ride to the front gate of mk, the ttc monorail is basically on-site. You will find that the polynesian is the best value for the deluxe resorts you will find. I have never stayed at the y and b club. I will probably stay there when my children get older(closeness to EPCOT).

We have 3 DS and go to the Poly every year. Ours are now 15,13 and 11. Yes the pool and monorail are the top draws here but here is some other things: On site childcare at the Neverland Club, our one DS begged us to take him back the next night. FREE childrens activities, depending on the day, they have arcade challenge in the game room, free movies and arts and crafts during the day time at the Neverland Club, on fathers day you could make a card in the lobby and they have free hula lessons, you can see the fire ceremony outside, lady bug release in season and at the dock you can easily go to fishing trips, rent the boats or the bikes and they have disney movies on tv in the lobby, free cookies around 2 or 3 I think, some nice CM just passes out a tray in the lobby and great access to the Character Breakfast at Ohanas. The Polynesian is the place for us. My one DS even helps a cast member do things. I dont want to say anymore about this . I don't think they will get in trouble, but this person is a great CM letting my DS have lots of fun. The CM greets
us by name when we come. Awesome Disney Magic.:) :) We have stayed at the Beach Club too. My DH's favorite. They have no free childrens activities but they do have an onsite childcare center. We never used it though. Yes the pool is awesome but are you paying to go in the parks or do you plan to spend alot of time at the resort. That would influence my decision. The Poly has more to offer for almost the same exact price.

Yacht/Beach are our favorites - the pool is by far the best (I haven't tried new pool at Poly -yet), Boardwalk is good too - our kids love the Keister Coaster water slide. With a 6 yr old (boy - I believe you said) - you just have to try the Wilderness Lodge. The hotel is great - transportation to MK is as easy as monorail from the Poly(there is a boat - direct to MK). There is a beach (no swimming - but you can certainly sit in the comfy beach chairs). The pool is cool and there is a hot tub. But the little guy will love the hotel. Much more interesting stuff to capture his attention - totem poles, a stream right through the lobby, and the list goes on... Not to mention, rates are generally lower at this resort and you don't really give up all that much Deluxe Resort quality (in fact I'm not sure what you do give up in that regard). Be sure to get a room with bunk beds - for some reason our kids thought that was too cool. Every afternoon at the pool there are organized water games - supervised by CMs. I don't believe you will be disappointed there. As for the Contemporary - there is a beach - but the pool leaves alot to be desired - just your basic Olympic size rectangular hole in the ground (with ice cold water of course).

The Polynesian is great! The theming is wonderful, the rooms are big, and there is a lot to do.

Go to Steve's (Tikiman's) site. It will give you all the information you need. It helped me choose the Polynesian for my last trip, and helped me decided that was where I wanted to stay again. The resort is just PERFECT!

Debbie, that was me that was going on about no hot tub at Poly. I still can't belive it because it makes no sense. It is also lacking in a playground for kids, but does have a "water play place" that is nice if your kids want to get wet. It apears those 2 things are the only lacking at Poly. It is a great resort and your son and you will love it. It is fun, relaxed, luxious, romantic and family friendly at the same time. Wacthing the fireworks at the beach can't be beat. All the restrants are great, even has a nice counter service place for a quick cheap bite.


However saying that Y&B is great too, close to Epcot and MGM (everything but MK really, and not that far from there) We love SAB, and for that reason our next trip (in 32 days :) ) will be to Beach Club Villas. We think the pool there will be good for our almost 2 year old. I also love the themeing there, I am a east coast girl at heart.


Really you can't go wrong with any Deluxe (or not) resort at WDW, the all are great.

The atmosphere at the Polynesian makes it my favorite of the monorail hotels - especially with a 6-year-old along. It's just more fun than the others, and more relaxed. The proximity to the MK can't be beat, and the view of the lagoon, fireworks and water pageant at night are truly lovely.

I have been dying to stay the Polynesian. But I haven't yet. I visit it everytime I go. Either to drink daquiris on the beach or have a meal at Ohana. Awesome resort.
