 lol any particular shows you enjoy?
A better question would be shows I DON'T enjoy!

But, a short list (and these are not just limited to Channel 4, or even shows that currently run even).

Sherlock, Doctor Who (can't WAIT for the next series!), IT Crowd, Kitchen Nightmares, Top Gear, Little Britain, Mr. Bean, Have You Been Served, Monty Python, Untold Stories, there's this show where Jamie Oliver taught inmates to cook, which I liked, and another where he investigated school lunches...can't remember their names offhand, sorry...list goes on.

I adore BBC productions, and I think their news service is excellent. That's also why I like Al Jazeera (which stole a lot of talent from the BBC)...

I think they do, on average, the fairest reporting of any of the news channels, and they make up one of many sites I turn to each day to catch up on world events.

I did not read through all 12 pages of this post so this may have already been discussed here, but this post brings up a whole other issue. If you are not carrying a bag or backpack you can just walk right through security without being checked at all. What is to stop someone from having a gun, knife, whatever, etc in their pockets. I always think about that when i see someone walking through the no baggage line. On my last trip thanks to FP+ and Magic Bands I found myself being able to go through the no baggage line for the first time ever and was amazed that I was not given a second look by anyone. I was wearing cargo shorts with several pockets that could easily hide a weapon. All the baggage checks in the world will not do you nay good if John Smith walks in with a gun in his pocket. I am not advocating for metal detectors or anything else, I am just making a point about the security policy for entering the parks. Maybe I am missing something on how they observe non baggage guests, but I know that I was able to just walk right in. If someone has inside information I would appreciate hearing it.

That is the reason the security is truly a joke. You could easily waltz right in with a gun in your pocket or jacket or poncho... they only check you if you have a bag. They know it isn't real security only faux security to make people feel safe not actually be safe.

The term is "security theater".

And yes, it is silly. Nothing against the guards who are doing their jobs, but I'd rather they spent that labor dollar elsewhere, personally.

They used to show it on PBS back in the 90s, and I loved it. Most of my friends (I was a teen then) did not. I also enjoyed Keeping Up Appearances.

Though, one of my girlfriends in the late 90s had a passion for AbFab (Absolutely Fabulous). I despised that show...but, she let me watch Mr. Bean, so...

Oh, and how could I forget to mention the far superior (as most shows that have come from the BBC to US TV are) The Office and Whose Line is it Anyway?

Rule #9. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

Have you ever been in a situation where a blade made a difference? And I don't mean a bar fight. Once you've ever had to deal with a case where a sharp edge could mean life or death, you may understand a little more. Like maybe a jammed seat belt in an overturned car. I could easily come up with a lot of scenarios, several of which might occur in the parks (no, taken over by terrorists is not one of them).

For many of you, this will never be a problem, be content to live on your knees. For those who ridicule and find yourself one day in a bad situation because you can't comprehend why a blade might have helped you, Darwin will remind you of this conversation.

Utarded Kingdom.

Wow, how offensive is this!?! I've always been a fan of yours but I find this REALLY offensive, my home is retarded it would seem. The word itself is offensive let alone the way you've used it. Great choice of user name! Be the better person, don't resort to alienating others, not nice.:(

You, as someone else I like, obviously didn't read what I responded to.

Also, my username is my choice, and it has nothing to do with the UK. I am not british, I have never been british. I have never lived in the UK. And, my choice of name had nothing to do with being british.

Wonderful to know that every time you brits call us "murica" I can get under your skin by saying "Utarded Kingdom". It's the same implication, is it not?

But, it's funny and fine when you do so, and offensive when I do.

How...quaint.

It's ok to make fun of the US, and imply that we are "retarded", but it's offensive if we do it to you.

Do you not see the hypocrisy?

Enlightening.

But couldn't that person easily get a steak dinner at any restaurant within a WDW, pocket the sharp metal knife given to him/her by Disney staff and still go on a stabbing rampage?

That's the part I don't get about this discussion. Even if you are fearful about a pocket knife "falling in the wrong hands" and causing harm -- which, sure, is possible albeit unlikely -- there are already much more dangerous knives within Disney parks accessible to guests. So shouldn't you be just as worried even if Disney outright banned bringing in knives of any sizes to their parks?

True, a dangerous person could grab a steak knife, etc. My comment was more about a concealed blade being brought in on someone like that, when the person entered the park.

Oh my.....do you see what has happened here, people? The Dwarfs! have done it again! They've turned us all against one another. Little Punks, they are!! This thread started out pretty innocuously, with someone simply asking for a bit of advice....and then......it got ugly...REAL ugly. I sense twisted Dwarf Happiness out there.

I usually carry a sub-3 inch Spyderco deep pocket carry when I'm in the parks. Never had an issue, never been stopped, and I probably won't stop carrying it either.

Calm it down! you keep saying 'you', at what point have I said any of the above? Take your anger out on the individuals who have upset you, don't generalise a whole country. I don't say or think any of the things you're quoting as if I have said. I love America, but can see faults as much as I love the UK and I can see faults there. You're being rude to the wrong person. There is no hypocrisy in what I say as I don't have the views you are moaning about!

I've been supportive of you in the past, I'm surprised you are acting so angry at me for just saying I find 'Utarded Kingdom' offensive, as much as you seem to find terms against your country offence, btw, terms I don't agree with and would never say.

Please don't bother replying with such anger, I don't deserve it.

I won't resort to chucking around insults. Have a nice day.

And on your edit point, if everyone did that then I wouldn't want to rely on tourism for my business. Amuricah specifically wants international tourists, Obama addressed that in his speech in 2012 (at WDW). What they don't show you in the adverts on TV in the UK is the rural farmboys with their utility tools popping them in their trousers and heading into Disney. I doubt the planes would be so full if they did. UK tourists would not be aware of knives being carried into the park as it's something most of us wouldn't even think of let alone do.
Wow, I really need to not stay up past my bedtime. I was also responding to the Maelstrom Seven Dwarves thread and appear to have phonetically spelt America wrong, as my brain was trying to think phonetically. Apologies and look at trouble I caused.....

But, even the law in FL (or here in GA and I can't think of a state that has any laws much different than this)...defines a weapon as this:

Fla. Stat. § 790.01 (2012)

§ 790.01. Carrying concealed weapons

[A] person who carries a concealed weapon [...] on or about his or her person commits a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.

“Concealed weapon” means any dirk, metallic knuckles, slungshot, billie, tear gas gun, chemical weapon or device, or other deadly weapon carried on or about a person in such a manner as to conceal the weapon from the ordinary sight of another person.

“Weapon” means any dirk, knife, metallic knuckles, slungshot, billie, tear gas gun, chemical weapon or device, or other deadly weapon except a firearm or a common pocketknife, plastic knife, or blunt-bladed table knife.

"Except a common pocketknife, plastic knife or blunt-bladed table knife."

Disney doesn't ban knives in their policy. They ban weapons.

From their site (which you linked earlier, btw)

"You may not bring the following types of items into the theme parks:

  • You may not bring the following types of items into the theme parks:
    • Wagons
    • Skateboards
    • Scooters
    • Inline skates
    • Shoes with built-in wheels
    • Strollers larger than 36" x 52" (92 x 132 cm)
    • Suitcases, coolers or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" (61 cm) long x 15" (38 cm) wide x 18" (46 cm) high. Coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations.
    • Any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV, wheelchair or stroller
    • Wheeled mobility devices with less than 3 wheels and devices that cannot maintain stability and balance when stopped, unpowered or unoccupied. Training wheels or similar modifications are not permitted.
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Weapons of any kind
  • Folding chairs
  • Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
  • Pets (unless they are service animals)
  • Balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted in Disney's Animal Kingdom Park for the safety of our animals
  • Tripod stands or monopod stands that cannot fit inside a standard backpack"
Yes the law is clear, what Disney defines as a weapon is not though, especially when a previous poster (Victor I think) has his blade confiscated. Even Disney are confused about their rules.

You don't have a kitchen?
Of course I do, but my children do not have access to sharp ended knives.

Can't believe this has run to 17 pages already.

Disney's rules are pretty clear, no weapons allowed.

1. You know that our laws allow pocket knives/multi tools with a folding blade up to 3" to be carried. This is explicitly stated. I think you might also be surprised how many people regulary carry a multi-tool on their person.
2.Tools and folding knives with up to 3" blade are perfectly legal and acceptable to carry in the UK.......though most of the law on weapons here are draconian. For instance, you now have to be 18+ to legally buy cutlery or a butter knife!
3. I honestly don't think most people in the UK would consider a small multi-tool to be a weapon unless being held in such a manner.
4. I really wouldn't worry about someone getting something into the parks that they shouldn't. The bag check is no more than a token check, they don't check the bags properly nor do they check your person. I guarantee you have stood in line hundreds of times next to someone who had a multi-tool or a pocket knife on them.
5. I do actually find it a little scary that your 3 year old doesn't know the difference between real and play toys. Maybe giving kids toy weapons before they know they difference is not such a good idea.
1. Yes I am aware and yes I would be surprised at how many people carry a "pocket tool". I actually don't know of anyone who does.
2. And the reason for that is that knives are not commonplace here as weapons, and I don't want them to be either.
3. Depends on who you ask. People I know would.
4. Cool, I'll remember that when I take my own fireworks in to let off.
5. I find it more scary you think a 3 year old should know what a real gun is. As I have said, my kids will not be around real guns in a domestic setting unless they fall in line with a very bad social group, which is unlikely where we live.

Utarded Kingdom. I am really glad that the only rural "farmboys" in the UK are in Scotland. Right? Right?

243.gif

In all seriousness, you seem to respect any culture except ours. And, regardless of what you think, the US is not "without culture". In fact, culture is our primary export, and guess what, the World is buying it up in droves.

How trendy of you.

BY STATE LAW, a multitool or pocket knife is NOT considered a weapon.

BY FEDERAL LAW, we are not allowed to import Kinder Surprise. Why? Because they are considered a danger to children and a choking hazard.

That's right...THESE are illegal to bring into the country (so don't try to bring them over).

Graham_0709_A1.jpg

You may feel that our customs and culture are non-existant, but that is blatantly false and offensive.
I actually have no idea what you mean by the Scotland quote. I live in the countryside and I'm not in Scotland? Not sure what you meant by that?
I'm aware of all the good things that have come out from America. Baby Ruths specifically. I'm also very aware of what I can and can't take into countries I visit.

And yet, it's perfectly acceptable to call it "Amurica" and imply that someone who wants to carry a multitool is a "rural farmboy". What image does that conjure, hrm?

Funny-Rednecks-271.jpg

It was a joke, hence the "but seriously" part.

However, the original statement (which it was a reply to) was not. It is trendy to make fun of America, especially "rural America". Even we do it to ourselves. It's trendy, and cool. I get that.

It's also "trendy and cool" to be overly offended by everything. I also get that.
Actually that's not what I said. Someone earlier referred to carrying a knife as their job and made a reference to it being the norm within rural areas. Maybe I should have made the analogy of an off-duty police officer taking their gun to WDW in an advert. Sorry you misunderstood me. Again sorry I misspelt America. The only time I intentionally spelt is wrong was "A'me'rica", referring to how it is a "me" culture, something that has been discussed frequently in other thread when talking about a sense of entitlement, for instance.

You, as someone else I like, obviously didn't read what I responded to.

I haven't heard of Murica as an offensive term and would have no idea what it means. If it means mentally retarded there is no way I would reference it. I don't do name-calling.

I stayed up super late in what ended as a civil conversation and wake up to this.

I look at some of these replies & just smile.....I've carried a pocketknife sense I was 5 I'm 70 now! Society has gone NUTS! Like some people stated... weapons are everywhere...IF....you know how to use them & I do.Knives are dangerous etc.Do ya'll have any idea how many people at work spouted "knives are weapons" etc. These same people who try to cut string with a key....would ask me for my knife to cut sting, boxes pkgs.etc.
