He would have shot her to death instead? Would she somehow have been more dead?

On humor I do not know if you have this show over there but I do not think you would enjoy it

It's all low brow very offensive humor, and I love it :)

Lol what? No he would have shot at students and law enforcement also killing more people.

And yet, it's perfectly acceptable to call it "Amurica" and imply that someone who wants to carry a multitool is a "rural farmboy". What image does that conjure, hrm?

It was a joke, hence the "but seriously" part.

However, the original statement (which it was a reply to) was not. It is trendy to make fun of America, especially "rural America". Even we do it to ourselves. It's trendy, and cool. I get that.

It's also "trendy and cool" to be overly offended by everything. I also get that.

Uncle Fetus is that you?

Ah, I didn't actually read that part too closely. Plus you made a comment further down showing admiration for the UK so yeah it's all good :)

Buy me a pint and I may think about forgiving you. Either that or convince the BBC to bring back the IT Crowd.

:p

(In addition, what set me off to respond was it was the second time she'd used a pejorative to describe the US)

Where did it say that? From what I am reading he stabbed her and then he stopped his aggression. Did I miss something?
No I was just saying if guns laws were relaxed here then he could have caused much more damage than he did so thank the gun ban. He of course only used a knife.

Other than your beer sucking the U.K. is all good :)
Um...we ain't got bragging rights over here. Whilst the Germans have us all beat, UK brews are much better than the wasser we tend to drink...

Though, Inbev owns Bud now, so I guess it's technically now an "import"?

A 2" pocket knife should certainly not be classified as a weapon, it is a utilitarian tool and to call it anything else is simply over-sensitivity. We are responsible adults and should be able to collectively handle seeing someone with a simple pocket knife with over-reacting. Call me old-fashioned, but I like to be able to remove the multitude of tags from my purchases without having to hunt down a cast member with safety scissors.

Also, if they (the collective they...sorry, not picking on you specifically. :)) are intent on removing all possible tools that could potentially be used as weapons then I'd aim more towards strollers; they are far more prevalent and much more likely to be used as a weapon. ;)

Agreed, I carry a small Swiss Army knife all the time and would never have considered it carrying a weapon before opening this thread. I use it mainly for utilitarian things like cutting packaging open or using the tweezers on splinters, etc. I don't advertise that I carry it but I certainly wouldn't seen a problem bringing it into a Disney park. IMO

For my U.K. friends...low brow American humor.

It's amusing that Family Guy often makes fun of the BBC (Jolly Farm etc) but Family Guy (and American Dad) air on BBC Three here lol and they don't seem to care. We also have a Fox channel here but it doesn't have the rights the to The Simpsons but all the other animated shows and this bothers me. Simpsons is on two other channels but not Fox

He could have, but showed no signs from what I read that he would have. Never know for sure.

I can link a whole ton of stories where a privately owned firearm prevented a horrible crime from occurring if you like. Many of them used by women to protect themselves from men who could overpower them physically otherwise.

We have a saying here. "God made man and woman, Col Colt made them equal"

I guess it is all in how you look at it.

Guns allow crimes to occur against honest people or guns allow honest people to protect themselves from crime. I prefer the latter myself.

In my mind the one responsible to protect myself, my family and my property is me, not the police. I do not know what the response time in the U.K. is when you call the police but here it is at least 3-5 mins (and that is being optimistic) from when you call until they show up. That is a heck of a long time to wait for the calvary to show up when you are a victim.

But again I am not judging U.K. law, if that is what the people want then they should have it that way.

Family Guy makes fun of everything and everybody. That is exactly why I find it non offensive when they tread on touchy subjects. They spare no one or no group, it's all out open comedy warfare with them :)

My concern is not about them; It's the ones that you'll never hear from (on a friendly, community discussion forum like this), that could enter a park concealing a pocket knife for all the wrong reasons. True, the chances of this ever happening are probably slim, but it's something that crossed my mind.

But couldn't that person easily get a steak dinner at any restaurant within a WDW, pocket the sharp metal knife given to him/her by Disney staff and still go on a stabbing rampage?

That's the part I don't get about this discussion. Even if you are fearful about a pocket knife "falling in the wrong hands" and causing harm -- which, sure, is possible albeit unlikely -- there are already much more dangerous knives within Disney parks accessible to guests. So shouldn't you be just as worried even if Disney outright banned bringing in knives of any sizes to their parks?
