Pleasure Island confusion

OK, here's my understanding of the rules/rates of Pleasure Island...please correct me if I'm wrong.

You have to be 21 or older to get into every place except for Adventurer's Club and Comedy Club.

You can get into PI by purchasing a one club admission for $11.66

The one club admission does NOT include the Adventurer's or Comedy club

SOOOOO....if I'm travelling with someone under 21 we have to pay a full price admission for ALL clubs even though the only one we will be going to is the Adventurer's Club???!!!

Is this correct? Does this confuse anyone else besides me :veryconfu

Yup those are the rules. I know they are crappy rules. The main reason Disney does this is because they really dont want anyone there under the age of 21 so thats why they do that. :brick:

The reason that the Comedy Warehouse and the Adventurer's Club require the full-price club-hopping ticket is to help defray the costs of providing the entertainment. At the dance clubs, you just have a DJ or two and a couple techs. At CW and AC you have a whole cast of Equity actors and stage techs. (And I can safely say the actors are NOT earning minimum wage...)

It just seems a little...I don't know....sneaky....to me to basically say to those under 21...

"Ok, you can come in but you can only go to 2 clubs and you CAN just pay for one club but we won't actually let you into that one so you have to pay for EVERY club even though we won't let you into them"

I would think that the income from all the passes could offset the higher wage for the actors not just the one club passes.

Sneaky? Maybe a bit but there are some things to consider. As mentioned before the cost to operate the CW and AC is considerably higher than the other clubs due to the actors. It is also my understanding that the AC and CW have never really had attendance issues which was the main catalyst for having the single club admission. Bottom line if Disney can fill the AC and CW every night at $23 a person why would the drop the price to $12.

I consider it a bonus that they allow anyone under 21 in at all! It's entertainment first and a bar second. If you think $23 dollars for a live show...actually multiple shows in both AC and CW, I don't consider it excessive.

You raise the additional point of the fact that the one-club ticket is a relatively new thing. Since PI's inception, it was ONE price to get onto the Island. When they removed the turnstiles and opened up the island it remained this way for a while. But then when they decided to come up with a way to boost the attendance in the dance clubs, they introduced the REDUCED-price admission that's good for just one club. The club-hopping admission's price is on-par with what it's always been. (adjusting for rising prices over the years)

So the real way to look at it is that they're not charging you MORE to go to the AC and CW, but rather they're providing a *discount* to people who are 21+ and want to just go to a single dance-club.

I guess the problem is that now there are 7 of us wanting to do a night out and NONE of us will be going to PI because 1 of us won't be able to get in....and we like that one who's under 21 so we don't want to ditch her for the night. :animwink:

(it's doubly frustrating because the drinking age is 19 where we live so she's legal at home)

And...I'm saving every penny to go on the trip so I have to take any cost cuts I can...I was hoping the single club admission would help but....no....it doesn't

Are you guys getting the Water Parks & More option on your park tickets? If so, a WP&M admission is the full PI admission.

If not, check with the authorized ticket resellers. You can often get a good deal on PI and DQ tickets.
I just checked and TicketMania and Maple Leaf Tickets are $17-$18 for a club hopper PI ticket.

do the new rules mean that if you're between 18 - 21, you can go to the comedy warehouse, or adventurer's club with out an over 21?
That is correct. If you are 18 or older you can go into CW or AC alone. If you are 17 or under you will need someone 18 or older with you.

Look at THIS way, in terms of a night of being entertained instead of a night of dancing/clubbing...

If you were to go to a comedy club anywhere else in the nation for a less-than-"A-list" lineup of comics, you'd still probably pay AT LEAST 10 bucks a head to get in (most likely more, especially in major urban areas), PLUS there'd be a 2-drink minimum, and those drinks would probably run you at least 5 bucks each. You might find some coupons or special deals, but otherwise, you'lre looking at a minimum of 20 bucks per person for the night, and the show will probably be less than 2 hours long. If the next show looks to be really empty, the club MIGHT let you stick around for the next show (assuming you saw the early show), but you'd probably have another 2-drink minimum, AND the comics could wind up performing an almost-exact or the exact same set that you already saw.

On the flip-flop, you can pay for the all-clubs PI ticket, and spend all night in Comedy Warehouse or Adventurer's Club (or going back and forth between the two), there's NO drink minimum, AND you won't ever see the same show allllll night long, which can be 5 hours or more.

There, doesn't that seem like more of a value now?

Do those 17 and under need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian - or anyone 18 or older? Sounds odd to me - like my 22 year old could take my 16 year old to a "bar" without my knowledge.

Would you feel that way were your kids going to a comedy club, or a small cabaret-style theatre with a liquor license? I'd consider going to AC or CW comparable to those style of venues. If you do lump comedy clubs and cabarets with bars or nightclubs, then yeah, you should set some ground rules down with your kids. If you consider comedy clubs/cabaret to be a different sort of animal than nightclubs & bars, and you consider those alternatives to be acceptable, then I'd dare say you'd consider AC & CW to be acceptable, too. FWIW, I wouldn't have an issue letting my teenage child go to CW/AC with an older person, even if that older person was neither me nor the baby momma. But the proof is in the pudding - if you can, go yourself, first, with or without your kids, and if you're cool with it, you can decide whether or not to let your kids go without you.

Slappy pretty much summed it up. Neither AC or CW fit the mold of a traditional bar they are more like entertainment venues with a liquor licence. Quite honestly I have seen more drunks causing problems at TGI Fridays than I ever have at either AC or CW. I have taken my kids to AC and I would have no problem with them going with an adult other than myself.

As to Disney's official policy on this I haven't a clue. All I can say is that the rules posted on the official site do not indicate that the person over 21 be a parent or guardian.

Official site said:
Admission required to enter Pleasure Island nightclubs. Guests must be 21 years of age or older with acceptable forms of identification to enter BET SoundStage Club, 8TRAX, Mannequins Dance Palace and Motion. Guests under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a person 21 years of age or older to enter Adventurers Club and Comedy Warehouse. Valid photo I.D. required. All Clubs are non-smoking.

Officially...

The Adventurers Club and The Comedy Warehouse is available to all Guests. Guests under the age of 18 are required to be accompanied by an adult.
