Pleasure Island Changes

From Screamscape today:

Downtown Disney & Pleasure Island News - (2/2/09) I’ve heard a rumor this weekend that Disney may have reopened bookings for some of the old Pleasure Island nightclub locations as well as the Adventure’s Club. If the rumor is true, staff were informed that they may be taking new bookings for special events through to October 1st, 2009 now, the end of Disney’s fiscal year. There are whispers starting to work their way up about possibly doing something to breathe new life into the area sooner than later, perhaps reopening the Adventure Club and a Club or two for the spring break crowds. Anyone know more?

But if they re-open the clubs for Spring Break, that means they'll be taking business away for the extremely popular American Idol Experience;)

Just open the clubs already so I can get my Kungaloosh on:D

This to me sounds like the rumor that went around that the clubs would reopen during the holiday season...I'm not putting much stock into it as much as I hope to God it is true.

Agreed. That said, it made a lot of sense then, too--the suits may still be kicking themselves after seeing the crowds the week after Christmas meandering to nowhere. Honestly, "college" Spring Break would make sens--the clubs were always packed. "Regular" Spring Break, tho, was never all that busy a time of year at PI--the parks are open late, and it's not as much of a party crowd as convention season.

Screamscape has another rumor up this morning. Confirms clubs still open for private bookings, but then this tidbit:
One source was walking through PI the other evening when they spotted a few suits getting a tour of the site, standing outside one of the club for a time talking when suddenly the outside lights of the club all came back on.
Maybe management is wising up that you can't sell tenants on retail space in a "dead mall." Or maybe we're just going to get more contruction walls and shrubbery.

I can see it now....
Tourguide: "Well suits, this is what we have so far, is there any changes you want to make?"
Suits: "We want.......a shrubbery!!"

But this is great news, if they see how dead PI has become, maybe we'll get some clubs open yet:)

Someone in management would have to admit that they were wrong first, and good luck!

I hope the Adventurer's Club at lest gets reopened. I raved to my wife about it and now she won't get to see it on our trip next year.

If they really reopened group bookings, couldn't you, you know, call and try to book?

Couldn't one of our KK friends find that out very easily?

Bookings are indeed being taken through the end of September.:D
Feel free to call up and drop some coin to reserve a night.
If I remember correctly, the price starts at $5k plus entertainment.

Hey Lee, I bet you could organize an event similar to how jedimaster did for Epcot's 25th. I'm sure you get get a ton of folks just from these boards.

$5000/100 people= $50 per person
$10000 (for the works I'd imagine)/100 people = $100 per person

Either way, very manageable if you could secure the funds.

We'll looks like I'll have to start selling Jinkies cereal door to door.....

"Hello sir, I'm a junior adventurer selling jinkies to raise money to attend the 1937 open house of the adventures club, would you care to buy a box?"

I was thinking that you would only need 100 folks at $50.00 each. Seems reasonable.

What is "Congaloosh"?

Also, the more events, the more likely the venue is to stay open. Right?

Why just have 1 event?

I sure hope it coincides with LSU's Fall Break, so I can be there!

Well, I'm thinking more along the lines of food and entertainment added, so about $100 which still would be worth it.

Congaloosh is an event like Celebration 25 to pay tribute to the Adventurers Club.

I'll be surprised if Disney allows Congaloosh to rent out the club. Seems like it would be drama they'd want to avoid. I find it fishy that September 27th was already booked.
