What I've found to work elsewhere is to post to a spam thread after using the report to moderator function to let others know that the thread has already been reported. There's nothing more irritating than to get dozens of e-mails in my inbox about a single piece of spam. It's like getting spam about spam.

Maybe so, but in the process you are doing exactly opposite of what Steve has asked that you DO NOT do. :lookaroun

Well, I've not done it here because I've never seen any spam. I was just mentioning it 'cause I know how irritating it can be when, as a moderator, you receive a ton of e-mails about the same thread.

I'm not sure if WDWMagic sees less spam than we do or if they're better at getting rid of it. Where I moderate, there's a giant team of folks at work -- some 30 moderators -- and spam sometimes still hangs around long enough for lots of people to see it and report it.

Bump

I removed it where I could, but there is one thread that has to wait for Steve. So just try to ignore it for now. Thanks!

Jeez - I feel a Monty Python song coming on . . .

Great, now it's stuck in my head for the rest of the day.:brick:

The spammers are really hitting hard...report them....ignore them...just don't reply to them. (It just keeps their post on top and they get more views.)

Seems some members need to be reminded that by replying to spam all you're doing is putting the thread back up into the New Posts - thus giving the spammer more advertising.

Report it - click on the red tri-angle at the top right of the post.

I think I may have to start leaving profile messages with a friendly reminder for people when they respond to spam. 10 replies to a spam thread!!! I'm really disappointed.

Many times I will send a friendly reminder to people who reply to spam, I've gotten some nasty responses back though. Maybe if the powers that be send them the response might be better.

We got hit hard this morning.

We are pretty lucky here, in that the amount of spam we get, for the size of the board, is really pretty minimal. I would say on average its only around one or two incidents per day. They never survive for more than 12 hours or so, so I am pretty happy with that.

Yes, I think it would be better to have a PM coming from a moderator. I know i would aprreciate a reminder from them more than I would from a poster I might not know.

Most times its a new poster who doesn't know the rules and I get a "thank you, next time I'll know what to do" type of response. There are those few, that have since been shown to be trouble makers who can get downright nasty.

I have also sent pm's to people and have recieved a Thank You!
I just show them this thread and thats it.

I just think that there are some posters who do know Steve does not want them responding, yet still does...as in the case last night..several responded saying that Steve does not want people responding..made no sense.
