Planet Hollywood - Who can confirm Rumor?

Heard a rumor form a friend who presently works at Disney that Planet Hollywood will be closing soon and something else taking its place. HAs anyone esle heard this tidbit of information?

I did notice when I was at Downtown Disney last week that they have removed all the outdoor props like the helicopter and what not sometime in the recent past.

The helicopter has been gone for a long time now - I'm thinking at least a year if not more.

I don't have any info on it, but I wouldn't be surprised with anything closing at DTD anymore.

On my last visit, DTD and PI were both ghosttowns. Most of the great shops and clubs were either closed and boarded up or empty. Business doesn't seem to be thriving down there.

There is only 1 shop closed - the former Virgin Megastore, and that was as a result of the entire chain of those stores closing.

There are then of course the former clubs that are closed.

Most of the restaurants are jam packed on a regular basis.

Save PI claims the Harley shop is moving into that retail area and off of the island where it is currently located. This makes some sense to me.

Starbillias has been replaced and was pretty busy,as were all other stores and restaurants both days I went.


I hope PH does not close.

Not for nothing, I just booked a reservation there for our trip in May. So, if they are thinking about closing anytime soon, could someone there let me know please? :shrug:

Planet Hollywood on Location is due to close by the 31st. I have not heard any other info on closings.

idk when you were there, but I've been through DTD on weeknights and it's absolutely dead. Everything shuts down at 11pm except for HOB, sosa, paradiso, and Reglan. Not even the Disney bars on PI are open past 11. It's sad.

I've been to DTD a few times within the past two weeks and it seems pretty lively to me. Especially last night, Friday, the marketplace was quite popular.

Maybe I've just been there on off times, but it didn't seem like anything was that wrong for this time of the year :shrug:

Well, we kind of got off topic here. LOL

But, I would say the big issue at DTD from a crowd standpoint is that there is a disconnect between the marketplace and west side. In one case, it the disconnect used to be called Pleasure Island. That area needs to take on a more transitional tone between the west side and the Market place style.

Unfortunately the redevelopment plans were likely set back by the current economic conditions. I know Disney was planning on Third Party or Partner business to fill in the clubs. I doubt anyone is willing to take on the risk right now considering the cost of establishing yourself on Disney Property. Plus, what bank would make the loan.
