Planet Hollywood Closing?

Where did you see that? As far as I know there was no announcement about Planet Hollywood's future and that it was expected to remain open, with a new exterior look.

I thought I saw it in there. That the building would become a remain a restaurant but no longer PH.

Unless i got confused with some of our speculation....

Honestly, it's an embarrassment that this type of cheesy, faux themed restaurant still exists in the 2010's. And people still eat there and think their microwaved carb platters are actually worth American money? That's baffling.

Umm, are you aware that this "faux themed restaurant" is at Walt Disney World? I mean, you know, because people go there expecting complete authenticity and no "faux themed restaurants"...

All I am saying is that I don't see Planet Hollywood as any less themed than most of what Downtown Disney was meant to be (and which many people here lament is leaving, to be replaced by stylized yet contemporary outdoor mall that might be found anywhere else).

As for my own taste, I like Planet Hollywood, and I have not had a bad experience with the food. It was good, perhaps not great, but good. Burgers, fries, Cap'n Cruch crusted chicken. What I would expect from a family restaurant themed on the movies. The props are what you expect here, and really only need to be changed out from time to time. And I thought the architecture was cool.

I guess it best fit the original Pleasure Island, though, with the constant spotlights and night-time party atmosphore. But anyhow, I liked it.

They could really do some cool visual effects in the dome. I'm intrigued. Hey Disney... PLEASE do this right.

As for Planet Hollywood... I always thought the food was "meh", but the chicken tenders with the captain crunch breading were to die for. Very very good.

EDIT TO ADD: The above only applies if it's actually closing. :)

PH seems to be trying to make their other locations more "hip". We ate at the one in Vegas last year in the Forum Shops at Caeser's and they had low, oversized seats around low tables. At least in the area we ate in. I didn't care for their redesign.

The earliest leaks for DS had it becoming "The Observatory," was on the initial map as such (along with a code-word protected American Girl store, so all of this subject to change).

Around the same time, rumors of a Planet Hollywood hotel on I-Drive sprung up, leading to speculation PH might move.

I have heard rumors--completely unconfirmed--that The Observatory would feature some sort of improve comedy, implying a completely different restaurant experience.

But at this point, I don't think anybody knows the truth--may still be in negotiation. But PH closing has an air of credibility.

The one in Houston closed years ago, as have most in the U.S. I'd assume the chain itself isn't doing so well. I have reservations for October 26th because I waited too late and couldn't get anything better.

Went once many moons ago and enjoyed it but it was just basic fern bar food. No reason to ever go back. Haven't hit all the park restaurants yet.

There's nothing special (to me) about PH. It is a bar food concept that came about 10-15 years too late (following Hard Rock) and didn't adapt to the changing landscape like Hard Rock did with hotels, casinos, etc.
