Thanks KatieBug. Glad to see you are still out there... :p

I remember them being there, just that people didn't seem to care as much. It was more "Neat! Its a character!" than "WE MUST SEEK OUT CHARACTERS!!!"

If I lived down there and had annual passes, I likely wouldn't mind the line, but when I am there once a year or every other year, The last place I want to sit is in a line to get two minutes with a character...
Glad you got the joke, I try to add it when I'm being snarky.
As an adult I agree, but as a kid when every advertisement shows all of these characters at 8 years of age I figured theyd be everywhere, I was a little disappointed I didn't see more. Now I could care less and ill never do a meet or greet.. but that's because I'm no longer 8 lol.

I agree with @MisterPenguin here. It's a show. Ariel's Grotto, Princess Fairytale Hall, Pete's Silly Sideshow, and Town Square Theater are M&Gs. Enchanted Tales with Belle is not. Now, whether or not it's a good show is a separate discussion, but it's definitely a show.

That being said, there are way too many M&Gs passed off as attractions in MK. The only one that really should be one (especially now that talking Mickey is gone, is Ariel, because, well, she can't walk. The rest should just wander around the park.

They still have the bikini Ariel? Might have to add that to my character list...for...reasons...

I have a picture of me as a very small child hugging the Walrus from Alice in Wonderland. It wasn't as fancy a costume as the modern ones I've seen, but to me, it was the real deal. I was always a fan of the stranger characters in the parks, but I was also a weird kid (and adult). Honestly, as a 46-year-old, I'll be far more excited if I run into one of the Country Bears than waiting in line for Mickey. You'd better believe I'd get my picture taken with one of them in a heartbeat.

Anyway, Coco. With as much money as the film has made worldwide and an Oscar attached to it, Disney would be foolish to completely cancel the attraction overlay. I'm sure that, since that seems to be the case, though, that there has to be some reason why they've decided it isn't worth the money. Maybe the funds that would have been used on it are having to be shifted elsewhere for an already-announced project that ran over-budget. Who knows? In any case, if Epcot has to absolutely have characters crammed into it, at least Coco would actually fit with the pavilion.

I think this comes down to simply a matter of space. The interior of the Mexico pavilion is fairly small to begin with and by putting a new attraction inside that would draw so much fanfare I honestly don't know where they would put all the people as they wait in queue. The current attraction draws modest crowds and I feel like that's exactly what's best for the pavilion.

Do you also think that cell phones and the fact that taking pictures is so accessible now had something to do with the need for meet and greets? We're such a selfie crazed culture now that I can't imagine how only having free roaming characters would work. Not that that is an excuse to replace actual attractions with these character interactions!

That's a good point. I think it would depend on what kind of attraction we're talking about. If they keep the same layout and simply change all of the scenic and AA elements, I don't know that it would cause an unreasonable jungle of people. With that said, if the final product wasn't something that would attract larger crowds than what is there now, there wouldn't be much point in spending the money on it. Kind of a Catch-22 situation. There's certainly room for expansion between Mexico and Norway, but that would entail far more money that what I'm sure Disney had set aside for it. I think the film's success kind of took them by surprise.

Seeing it on the cruise ships, where these characters do essentially get mobbed with a lot fewer folks around and look at non-Disney fan conventions where meet & greets are the bread and butter. For a subset of fans, these meet & greets are the primary attraction, but I'm with you, I don't necessarily get it.

So I think guests made it an attraction and Disney had to add more structure around it. As an added bonus, these meet and greets get the additional monetization with professional photographers.

I don't mind set meet and greets, personally. I've always thought they should be off to the side and lightly themed. I have no issues with that (it's when they're made into 'attractions' I raise my eyebrow).

I mean, I'm sure it could be due to the line moving slow but meet and greets get lengthy waits. It's an easy way for them to say "see, we have a lot for you to do". I think it's lazy on one hand but on the other hand I'm all for set meet and greets. I don't begrudge Enchanted Tales with Belle (too much) but why not a meet and greet, which is all it really is (just an added "show" to make it feel like an attraction) AND an attraction? I resent it because I feel it was in place of an attraction (not saying one was ever planned but it's lazy to me).

Remember Elsa and Anna getting hours long waits? Imagine if they built an Arendelle in MK and only gave us a meet and greet (oh, and a restaurant or two and a shop! of course)? But hey, they wave cardboard around so it's now an attraction!

I know many on here love the unstructured meet and greets of decades ago, but it's not a reality now. It's just not possible, IMO. At least where WDW is concerned. Maybe the other three parks could get away with it but not the MK, unless they open the pocket book and increase the meet and greets to so many that they aren't mobbed. But this is a company that can't afford to have added meet and greets, instead they swap out characters or cut entertainment.

You're right.

Insider status so far has revealed regarding Coco overlay: Likely off the table, but maybe back on. Nothing final yet, that we know of.
I hope it’s completely off the table, but that’s personal preference. Since this pavilion’s attraction is no longer about the historical culture, a new overlay is a waste of money.

The original ride was a silly C-ticket, but at least the early videos called out the historical myths surrounding Mexico.

But I think the Coco overlay could add back some of the cultural aspects to the ride... It could certainly be the best incarnation of the ride... The original aws a little strange, the revamp is too silly...this might strike the perfect note...and has a great theme song...
I think this is an example where the IP is a perfect fit...

ETwB is not a M&G, it's a show. An interactive show. As much as Turtle Talk with Crush is one. If you're not one of the few participating in the show, you don't even get your M&G with Belle. Shows are attractions.
My experience is that all children are able to meet with Belle at the end.

This is also an A-ticket show in an E-ticket wrapper.

Fifteen years ago, WDI might have done that. Do you think they’d go out of their way to properly integrate Coco? They could’ve integrated the Three Caballeros and they didn’t.

Sorry. It's a glorified meet and greet.

Where can you regularly meet Belle in the Magic Kingdom?

1. The majority of the time is not with Belle, but with storytellers.
2. The majority of the people don't get to actually meet and greet Belle, thus...
3. Since when is seeing a character as a group considered a M&G?
4. Not having another opportunity to meet a character in a park elsewhere is completely illogical to deciding if a specific event, in and of itself, is a M&G. It would be like saying "Turtle Talk is a M&G with Crush because where else in Epcot can you meet Crush?"
