Pixar vs. Dreamworks....

I love Pixar, I think they are geniouses at storytelling. Dreamworks has the ability to produce an amazing movie, but they are hit-and-miss compared to Pixar.

Finding Nemo was nominated for 4 Academy Awards (1 win)
The Incredibles was nominated for 4 Academy Awards (2 wins)
Monsters, Inc. was nominated for 3 Academy Awards (1 win)
Toy Story 2 was nominated for 1 Academy Award
Cars was nominated for 2 Academy Awards
Wall-E was nominated for 6 Academy Awards (1 win)
Ratatouille was nominated for 5 Academy Awards (1 win)
Toy Story was nominated for 3 Academy Awards
A Bug's Life was nominated for 1 Academy Award

I know the Oscars don't mean everything, but find me one single studio that has a 100% success rate of being nominated for an Oscar, plus having every single movie gross over $200,000 Worldwide (adjusted).

On a different note, I enjoyed the 3 Shrek movies for their entertainment value, but I believe only the first one of the three was a "good" movie. I didn't enjoy Kung Fu Panda at all. I know a lot of people did, but I watched it twice and didn't like it either time. Other movies, such as Bee Movie, were okay, but I just didn't "love" them.

This isn't even close. Pixar by a long shot. Dreamworks pumps out outrageous comedy after outrageous comedy, while Pixar puts out legitimate movies, meant to inspire while entertain.

If anything Pixar is the best movie studio out there. Period. No one else in Hollywood has come close to producing the level of movie they do every year.

I'm right there with you about Kung Fu Panda. I thought it was HORRIBLE. Where's the comedy? Where's the "great story?" Boring.

Shrek was great...sure, the animation isn't as strong as PIXAR's but that was one helluva funny movie. I couldn't care less about the two sequels. (And don't get me started on "Shrek the Halls!")

To be honest, I can't remember (aside from Shrek) a Dreamworks animated movie that I did actually like. SharkTale stunk, Madagascar stunk...I haven't seen Monsters Vs. Aliens but I'm really looking forward to that.

 This isn't even close...and it's not because I'm a Disney fanboy... The only Pixar movie that I could care less if I ever see again (and I've seen it probably 5 times) is The Incredibles. There's something about that one that just doesn't have the "heart" that the rest of them have...(although the animation is "Incredible" ;) )

(For the record...Bolt is better than any Dreamworks animated movie I've seen (aside from Shrek))

I saw monsters vs. aliens yesterday and it was just alright, but it wasn't very funny at all with some very lame one-liners and trite sci-fi/pop culture references.

I pretty much agree with what has been said above, Pixar is miles better with all of their films being home runs while DreamWorks is hit or miss ( I love the first two Shrek movies while I liked some of the others while others I've hated ). The problem with all DreamWorks movies is that they're all the same in terms of presentation. They're all smart-aleckey, "cOmEdY EVeNt Of teH YeAr!!1!!!" movies with toilet humor. While Pixar movies have a ton of contrast and variety between their movies.

You know I have enjoyed films by both studio so I take it on a case by case basis. Either way I'm interested to what they both do with 3D in their next films

I feel the same way.

For me, Dreamworks have had more misses than Pixar, and I have not seen every Dreamworks animated film by the way. I will admit that I have not really been impressed with Pixar lately...of their last three films, only Ratatouille was good. Cars was just average and WALL-E flat out stunk. And to be honest, Up holds no interest to me (But we will see, because I thought Bolt looked terrible but in the end it is one of my favorites).

Dreamworks has put out some good stuff, but when they are bad, they are really bad. Unlike some of you, I really enjoyed Kung Fu Panda, and Monsters vs. Aliens was great! It really reminded me of when I was a kid dozens of years ago and stayed up late with friends to watch the sci fi and monster flicks on Saturday nights.

Which I guess leads me to this point. I don’t go to movies to be inspired or given a message. I get that in real life. I go to the movies to be entertained and have a good time…to get away from things. In the end, I am not overly loyal to any animated film company…I just want an entertaining product. In the end, I can easily say for me, the best animated film since the Incredibles had been Bolt. I think that is a big kudos to Disney!!

Don't you mean $200,000,000.

$200,000 is a paltry sum in today's market.

Heading for the great escape.
I enjoyed Kung Fu Panda, but thought the Incredibles was mince. Dreamworks makes entertaining films, not Disney stylee but then they arent Disney and are not constrained by the same wholesome brand image.

Besides who doesnt laugh at fart jokes?
