They can win by making classic timeless films. Not OK or decent movies, but must see works of art. Elemental and Lightyear are decent but is it even close to the level of Wall E or Toy Story 1?

If Elemental had come out before Toy Story 3, I imagine folks would be more fond of it.

The problems started when Lasseter was still there, so the problem can't just be the lack of Lasseter.
The first movie that most people took issue with, and point to as the start of the decline, was Cars 2, a movie he directed.
For me, the Pixar golden age lasted from ~2003 to 2010. They were unstoppable then. Since then they've released a handful of movies that matched their earlier peak, a lot of middling stuff (some of which I think is better than it is commonly given credit for, but by no means all of it), and a small number of atrocities. Then at some point Disney and Pixar movies started feeling completely interchangeable, which is a huge part of the problem. Disney and Pixar both had distinct filmmaking voices once upon a time; now there's this weird Igerian blob of a voice that tries to meet the storytelling voices of each company somewhere in the middle, resulting in films that kind of feel like the movies of old, but with something definitively off.

What a GREAT way to celebrate laying off 100 Pixar Employees /s.Here's the thread to discuss and lavish praise on Pixar Fest as the big Summer '24 promotion for the Disneyland Resort!
Pixar Fest started a week ago, and yet it barely is being discussed here. So post your TR's, your pics, your Instagrammable Moments, your raves on signage and iconography and scavenger hunts, and your adulation for Together Forever, or Forever Together, or even Better Together!
And don't be afraid to use the word "AMAZZZING!" to describe any of it, like the paper napkins or the vinyl banners hanging from lightposts. Nothing is off limits in this thread, as Pixar Fest is immersive and one-of-a-kind storytelling.
Who wants to go first?

Wow. This Pixar Fest campaign is really going well for them, isn't it?
From another website...
"Club Pixar is part of the Pixar Fest offerings at Disney California Adventure. It was slated to run for the length of the festival, through August 4. Reports indicate that today, June 2, will be the final day of operations.
Located in the Hollywood Backlot, Club Pixar offered games and activities plus live performances. It’s unclear if the photo ops will remain in place for guests or if the whole area will be closed."
And from the Disneyland website just now, it does appear to no longer be running as of today. The webpage for it is still there, at least for now.

The issues started to show when Lasseter started splitting his time between Pixar and Walt Disney Animation, right around the end of Pixar's Golden Age. It was a mistake to have him work with both studios.
Not having Lasseter is absolutely hurting Pixar and Walt Disney Animation- even if getting rid of him was absolutely the right thing to do on moral grounds.
He's just a tough act to follow creatively.
The webpage for Club Pixar has been updated to reflect the cuts and cancellations. It looks like it's now just the games and the snack bars with a background soundtrack playing. They removed any mention of a DJ, a dance party, or live performances.
Here's the new version of the Club Pixar explanation from Disneyland's website as of today...
This is obviously a sudden budget cut right as summer kicks off to cancel the nightly dance party, but it makes you wonder what they were thinking originally with the daytime stage show that also got cancelled suddenly.
It's Pixar Fest, and instead of doing a 15 minute stage show with some of your favorite Pixar characters, they hired 8 random humans to teach your children interpretative dances representing your favorite Pixar characters for 15 minutes. Huh?
Uh, TDA, how you guys doin' in there? Are you "working from home" maybe a bit too much?

It's especially silly when you consider Inside Out 2 is out next week but Disney isn't using that opportunity to do a park stage show or parade to promote it.
Oh, there's another good point.
What is Pixar Fest doing for Inside Out 2? Or was whatever they were doing already cancelled?
This summer campaign needs a new tagline; Pixar Fest '24 - We Phoned This One In!

And it's a weird seemingly random pop soundtrack playing at the "Club" now. I don't mind walking past and hearing Britney Spears songs but not sure how that celebrates Pixar?
