We saw the movie on Saturday night, opening weekend... no one else in our group had ridden before.. they loved the "trilogy" already.

My wife and I immediately looked at one another and said almost simultaneously , "that's from the ride!"

My wife had only been on it once previously too...

Don't know if our group of 10 that went to MK the following Wednesday even noticed a connection, but I bet they will once it's on DVD or if they go see it again.

I loved it.

You know... I honestly did not catch that "reference" while watching the movie. However, this doesn't surprise me much seeing how the first and only time I have been on the ride itself was back in May of 2005. Either way, it is nice to see something like that implemented into the movie no matter how out-of-place it may seem.

I'm pretty sure it was like a giant inside joke. Like, they were passing through one dimension into the next, and they were suddenly part of the ride. Haha, the entire audience started laughing and applauding in my theatre

really? when i went i was the only person in the full theater to laugh at that. my friends (all 18 of them that i draged with me) were looking at me weird

im like ITS FROM THE RIDE PEOPLE. the sad part is that a good handful of them didnt believe me when i said the movie was based on the ride. they thought it was the other way around. thats just not right......lol

It was the same situation when I went to see it. I was getting all excited over the references from the movie and my family was wondering what my problem was... funny thing is, they have all been on the ride and didn't pick up on it!

well, i've been searching the internet for hours now trying to find a picture of the Captain who was replaced by Barbossa on the ride and a pic of Keith Richards all dressed in his pirate outfit, but sadly, i've had no success!

And unfortunately, Disney has only made things worse (in my opinion) by changing the attraction to match the movie. Now, if you didn't know it's a 40 year old attraction, you would probably make the assumption that the movie WAS first.

I completely agree about movie length. It doesn't matter to me if it's two, three, or more hours...if it is a good movie, and the plot can be sustained for that long, then I'm all for it. Frankly, I'm going to be a bit peeved if "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" isn't at least three hours. Anything less than that and they're hacking the book to bits...like they did with "Goblet of Fire." Actually, they should have just made both into two movies each and released them six months apart.
I haven't yet made it to POTC:AWE, but like I said, if I enjoy the story, I don't care how long it is. Hopefully it is better than two, though. I was a bit disappointed with it. It was still good, but it felt like a constant retread of Part 1.

OMG you didn't like two??? I thought it was the best of the three myself. :D Three was great..but there were some parts that were overdone I thought...and the ending was left to ambiguous which was NOT the intention of the writers...some key footage which would have made the ending far clearer was cut so that they could have extended battle scenes...which were great...but should not have been extended at the detriment to the ending... I hope they will do a director's cut for the DVD release because there is more to the story than was allowed to be told... and I'm thinkng if they show this on TV it might need to be a two parter because if they edit it down to less than 3 hours it would stink...if they made it closer to 4 hours and ran it two subsequent nights it would be it's only little mini series...

There's gotta be a 4th, that's all says I. :D

Oh, I can find you that... I gotta go hunt it down...but I have a picture of the Captains...

Did anyone notice that it's Captain Teague and not Captain Teague Sparrow? Wasn't he revealed as Captain Grant Teague earlier on in the discussion about the movie when it first became known that Richards woudl be playing Jack's dad???

Something you should know about me (which anyone who visits my myspace page will see spot on) is that I'm completely obsessed with POTC... lol...

I'll be back with those pictures. :D

honestly, when I first saw the movie, I didn't recognize him as Keith Richards, I just got all excited because I thought he was another ride reference! LOL!

The map at the end was a map on how to find the fountain of youth. I can't say much, but lets just say that all of the characters in POTC are willing to do the fourth, and some things may already be in progress.

On a side note, those who somewhat paid attention to the credits would notice that 'lucasfilm' had a hand in the production of the film, the irony here, is that the Indiana Jones series concluded with Indiana finding the "fountain of youth" in the cup. The thought, obviosuly, was that Indiana will live forever in the viewers, I would expect the same to happen with POTC.

I wouldn't say ALL of the characters. Keira Knightley has said she doesn't.

And the rumor is that Orlando Bloom doesn't want to either, but that one was shot down. The Knightley story wasn't.

That was the Holy Grail and not the Fountain of Youth.

Well I just gotta chime in .....Curse of the Black Pearl is one of the best movies ever made - but DMC and AWE are near the bottom of thelist of any move ever made in my opinion. If I had paid money for that mess that was on the screen last Thursday night when I went I think I would have blown up. As it was I saw it for free so I was only out three hours of my life.

The ride sounds were the only good thing in the whole darn movie. My wife and I both felt likje we were just watching a train wreck - hoping for it to improve but it just kept getting worse.

In which water, which was drank from the cup, would give the drinker eternal life, hence the old guard.............Knightley will more than likely reprise her role

Based on the after credits scene there is no need for Kiera or Orlando in another sequel.

******SPOILER**********

It appears that for 10 years, Elizabeth has just been sitting on the island waiting for a visit from Will and Will seems to have just been doing his job guiding the dead across to the other world because he still looks normal and hasn't turned into a Davy Jones-like monster.

Assuming the 4th one would take place pretty quickly after this one ended, neither of those characters need to be there.

Lucasfilm had nothing to do with the production of Pirates. Industrial Light and Magic (a Lucasfilm, LTD Company) did a lot of the special effects work. This is not out of the ordinary. You will find they do special effects work on a HUGE percentage of films.
