Pirates Queue

The chess playing skeletons will now blow bubbles and there will be some pirate wench voice that sounds like the Fairy Godmother asking guests to come up with obvious rhymes for a sea shanty she's having trouble with.

Thanks Tahu!!

For the sixth, or is it seventh time?

I have honestly lost count. But even if it isn't one of the reincarnates, the tone and accusations are tiresome. You and I don't agree on everything, and that can be said for all of us at some point. But tossing out constant insults with those we disagree with is just a waste of time. Some people just have to learn that the hard way......

What are they adding that will now ruin PotC queue?

I admit that I have the same fears. The POTC queue is a masterwork of atmospheric theming. While I ended up rather liking the new HM queue (except for the fact that it makes everything so...CRAMPED), I really don't want the same thing to happen to POTC. What's WITH this interactive queue fad among TDO? It's like a freaking plague!!! Are they taking their cue (see what I did there?) from WWOHP? If so, big mistake. THAT queue makes perfect sense within the context of the attraction. You're walking through Hogwarts, where interactive elements - the talking portraits, the Sorting Hat, the Fat Lady - have a right to exist because of their inclusion to Rowling's books. They're vital to the authenticity of the attraction. Adding stuff to the Mansion and POTC, by contrast, is just artificial augmentation. Phooey. Stop it, TDO - just stop. What's next - the Tower of Terror queue? Oh please no!

The new HM que seems to help calm down children who might otherwise be scared to ride. At least I know it helped for a few younger ones in our family who were always so nervous when we would ride. I dont particularly care for the additions myself, but I just bypass it when not with the kids. I like what has been said about the "progression". Never looked at it that way.

I'm pretty sure that was one of your previous arguments. The ques are extremely popular with the vast majority of guests. They love them in fact. You think things that are widely popular with guests are unnecessary. However, entertaining guests is the purpose of the theme park. Thus you think entertainment at the MK is unnecessary. Can you tell me why it's wrong for WDW to please its guests?

I also think fearing change was one of your previous arguments as well. Or it at least was a common theme across your 5,000 posts I read while I was lurking here before I signed up.

And again, you need to stop putting words in my mouth... Listen , tomorrow in school ask your teacher if he or she can tutor you in reading comprehension... Where did I say Disney shouldn't entertain their guests?? Actually, Disney used to entertain them a lot more than they do today... But that is besides the point... And no, I don't fear change... I welcome it, as long as the change isn't just change for the sake of change... If you can quote me where I said I fear change, kudos... Problem is, you'll never find that... That post exists with Disday's book and that secret contract Universal has with Marvel...

In fact, actually, I find it rather scary you read all of my 5000 and more posts... Stalkerish behavior...

Interactive queues are not necessary... They weren't necessary for 40 years, and people survived... Imagine the horror???

I don't care what's popular.
Haunted Mansion's original queue, as designed by the artists who created it, was art.
Even though it was located in a theme park aimed at children and families and situated next to a fiberglass cart that sold light bulb hats and candy, it was art.

And now, because management wants there to be more things for ADD-afflicted to children to rub their fingers on it has become lesser art.

I'm allowed to not like that.

This blog post sums up my feelings on the issue: http://passport2dreams.blogspot.com/2012/01/passport-to-dreams-year-end-report-2011.html

I'm not sure the HM queue would be "art" to me, not in the same way that the ToT is, to name a similar attraction with a similar concept. Mainly because the HM queue area is pretty short and the only thing there is look at is the graveyard.

Exactly... I don't agree with a lot of things said on these boards... But we can have a civil discussion, state our cases, and move on without personal attacks... Bulls, avengers, pitchforkman, or whatever one of his split personalities cannot seem to learn from their mistakes... They keep coming back, despite the many bans, and revert right away to their troll-like behavior... I'm convinced, he has some sort of issue... Doctors today can help most mental cases (sorry, not trying to offend anyone here)...

Two more blog posts that I recommend people who are interested in this read-
This one about queues in general: http://passport2dreams.blogspot.com/2010/12/third-queue.html
...and this one about the WDW version of Pirates and how its queue (as it stands now) works differently: http://passport2dreams.blogspot.com/2010/06/case-for-florida-pirates.html

These posts go into excruciating detail, but given the level of thought that went into the design of these areas in the first place I think this kind of analysis is warranted.

I hope the designers eager to install touchscreens and bubble makers in every available nook of a 40-year-old attraction has at least done their homework too.

It seems like people are forgetting the type of people that make up the majority of WDW customers. They are families. These families are filled with people that are getting spoiled by modern media. A static display does not have the same effect and excitment for a child as it use to they most will end up playing with a cell phone.

A child playing with a cell phone in a line is not involved in the disney experiance like a child playing with games and interactive elemants themed to the story of the atraction. The time that a child is not involed is time they are losing to expand the brand and build loyalty.

I wish they would take a cue from Universal and give us great queues like Hogwarts... I think the queue is nicely done..

And to be honest, I love Pirates queue as is... I'm all for plussing... But, in my opinion, adding interactivity to a queue is not plussing...

The HM queue, again just my lowly little humble opinion, is fine... the interactive parts which make it noisy were unnecessary... I didn't mind they added the queue, I just don't care for the interactivity...

I like the ToT queue too... But, I can just imagine the interactive nonsense they put in there...

They need to leave the queues alone.. spend that money on plussing the actual rides and call it a day...

It's a bit of a shame it's come to that.
But, it's not as if Disney's endgame wasn't always to sell more plush and popcorn.
That same desire to entertain enough to make that sale is what lead them to design the great classic queues in the first place.

So what has changed?
The tastes and attention spans of "families" or the designers' capabilities to exploit every waking moment for maximum brand loyalty?
