What are the ride restrictions for the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at Walt Disney World? I know there is a small drop, but is it that bad?

There isn't any ride restrictions(That I know of) and the drop isn't anything, i could be wrong but i think you only drop like 5 feet.

The drop is a bit taller than that, maybe 10 feet, 12 at the most, and it's more of a gentle slope downward than a drop. I've seen steeper slides on the playground.

It's not too bad, until you get to the loop.

Ok, no water loop.

Here's the restrictions (or lack of) from Disney's site:

Height Requirement:
Any Height

The drop is about 12 feet if memory serves correct.

****SMALL SPOILER ALERT****

The drop is just about pitch black, so that may be a factor for someone concerned about the drop. It's really a short drop, and over before you know it, but I did want to pass this along to anyone interested who hasn't ridden it.

Its nothing to worry about. I hate coasters and anything with a big drop but this is fine. I've been on splash twice but i wont go on it anymore as i just can't handle the end but pirates is no problem.

My 4yr old daughter was nervous about the drop and did not want to ride. Finally able to get her to ride and the whole time she kept asking when the big drop was even after we had gone by it. So it really is very very tame.

Don't forget that the ride doesn't even make use of any passenger restraint system. No seat belts, etc. By any motion ride standard, the ride is extremely non violent. I would agree the anticipation of the mild drop in the dark is probably the most fear inducing event for a child.

My mother used to ride all the time with us when I was a kid and she's the kind of woman who thinks falling out of bed is a big drop! And she was absolutely fine with it :ROFLOL:

I was supposed to be pregnant for my upcoming trip, so I made a list of everything that I couldn't ride. Pirates was something I wasn't worried about, and I don't believe it has an expectant mother warning. That tells you how small the drop is, because I'm sure they would take precaution if it was a big drop.

It's more of a slope but I think the darkness makes it feel like a drop???

I dont hang on like I see others and I dont usually leave my seat and I am not a heavy guy

Yeah the darkness definitely intensifies the drop experience or and slope. I like it when your the only ones of the boat just your party of 2-4. That makes the drop better i think.

Try a thread search; someone asked this last year and there is a whole load of info about the drop with figures and pictures

No height restrictions. We took our step nephew (5 years old) to DLR a week before Thanksgiving, and the first ride we took him on was POTC. He loved it!
