Pirates of the Caribbean vs Splash Mountain

This is a great question, because the answer is COMPLETELY different between Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

At Disneyland, Pirates beats Splash by a mile.

Here at WDW, I think Splash edges ahead... both because we have the much weaker version of Pirates and we have the much stronger version of Splash.

If we're weighing specifically the Florida versions of these things, then Haunted Mansion, not Pirates of the Caribbean, is Splash Mountain's only credible rival for the title of best ride in Magic Kingdom.

In Tokyo it becomes a more complicated question (plus I've only visited once, so I don't know it as well).

In Anaheim, I'm pretty sure I'd have to hand it to Pirates. (I also feel, probably because I grew up on the East Coast, that MK's single-file Space Mountain and two-across Splash both work better than vice-versa at DL.)

But the Deppified and bowdlerized Pirates, and in WDW length? Not a chance, even with its nice queue and exit area. Br'er Rabbit by a mile.

You could make a case for Pirates pre-2006, but I think Splash is the easy answer now.

Perfectly honest here, I don't want to get wet at a non-water park. There are some rare exceptions, but Splash Mountain is never on my to-do list. I'm not excited about the upcoming change in the least, but may ride it once and file it as done.

I'm pirates all the way here.

I’ll never go against Splash as long as it’s there. PotC is fantastic but SM with all the various animatronics, music, length of ride, and especially the drop makes it unbeatable for me.

Oh agreed, sorry. Splash at WDW is better than Splash at DL. I just meant that Splash at DL is still the best ride at DLR, better than either Pirates or Indie, or HM, RSR, etc.

Splash 100% all the way. It's one of the greatest rides ever created in my opinion. You have everything. There are some thrills, great songs and music, fantastic theming with AAs and physical sets, and it's nice and long. It tells a good story as well. Pirates just isn't on the same level at WDW.
