Feel free to totally shoot me down, I just wanted to see if anyone has anymore information on this topic. I thought for sure that POTC 3 was it, and I was sad, but got over it. Then a friend of mine the other day was telling me about her family member who helps build movie sets. She was talking about Harry Potter and a few he did then mentions that very soon he said he's going to be working on POTC 4. I was like, What? They're not making another one...and she said that she thought that too until (whoever this family member is) said that it was in his lineup of jobs. So far no great info on the internet but rumors. Anyone know anything better than that?

Pretty sure this was confirmed last year. Johnny Depp has a couple of other movies to film first, then he is back as Captain Jack. :sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:

Somewhere on here is a thread where it was mentioned Johnny Depp agreed to do POTC4, but there was going to be no Orlando Bloom or Kierea Knightly. That was the last I heard of it. No one ever did say if a contract was signed, etc. Anyone know anything about this??

I have to admit I did not see Pirates 1 until after seeing #2. I was never interested and went to the movies with a friend. Could not wait to see the third movie! Wonderful movies, all three of them!!

Depp is filming Alice In Wonderland with Tim Burton right now for a 2010 release and then I thought that he had another movie to do before he got around to doing Pirates 4. Will try to dig up some more info.

I was like you macsmom...I wasn't really interested in seeing the Pirates movies when the first one came out. Finally saw 1 and 2 a few months before 3 came out and fell in love with them. So got to go see 3 in the theaters with little wait time between them which was nice.

I'm sorry if this topic is a repeat...I did a little searching with no luck.

I for one am a huge Pirates fan(see siggy)! I'd love to se all the original characters because they were all a part of 1/2/3. It would be weird not to have Bloom and Knightly, but I'm sure the writers would make it awesome nonetheless! They never ceased to impress me with what they did on number 2 and 3.

It would be cool to have another family member related to Jack. I'd like to say a son or daughter would be cool...but then again what we love about Jack is his free-spirit, adventurous side. I don't know if him having a kid would fit.

Lone Ranger sounds awesome!! Hats off to Disney for bringing back some of what was classic to Disney in the beginning, good ol' cowboys. I'm not as big of a Tim Burton fan, he's too creepy for my taste.

I'm probably in the minority in that I'm not all that crazy about the 2nd and 3rd Pirates movies. I liked the first one and, personally, I think they should have just left that one as a stand alone movie.

As far as a Lone Ranger movie, I don't think that would work with all the modern day, hyper sensitive, PC bullcrap floating around out there. There would be some shmuck, or group of shmucks out there whining about Tonto being some offensive stereotype, or something.

Never thought of this until just now, but you are probably right on this. Nothing is correct these days.

Yeah, they'll make a few more. At least now they will have a few years to work on a script. Hey, it worked for Indiana Jones 4!!!:hammer::shrug::brick::lookaroun:lookaroun

I totally agree, keeping it politically correct will be a challenge. But on the other hand, they could have great success depicting the Native Americans correctly, and capture their true essence...at least we can hope.

I'm just excited to see an Old West type movie from Disney. I mean they have whole lands themed after the old west, it will be nice to see them do it IMO.

The second and third movies were complete and utter crap, IMO. Completely re-written character traits, overcomplicated plots, and un-needed twists. The first movie was spectacular, but the others were so disappointing.

The only thing that gives me hope is that Orlando "I can't act my way outta a paper bag" Bloom and Keira "I'm so skinny you can see through me" Knightly aren't in it, and it will just be Jack and Barbossa.

I don't care if it's "politically correct" or not, as I think political correctness is a bunch of crap anyway. I'm just saying that no matter what they do, no matter how they portray the Tonto character, no matter how "politically correct" they end up making it, some nutjob is still gonna whine that it's racist or something. Because when we're dealing with people who get out of bed every morning predisposed to find some kind of "racism" to whine about, there's nothing you can do to make them happy and they're gonna find something offensive no matter what.

Well, here is the latest that I have heard.

If they do a 4th one, they're going to have to find another director. Gore Verbinski, who directed the first three, has said that he's not interested in directing the next one, if there is a next one.

But, if there is a next one, Zac Efron has said, he'd be interested in appearing in it.

Let's hope Disney is disinterested...:lol::lol:

I am a huge fan of the pirates movies. My gf and I play the pirates online game all the time, or used to once we mastered all 4 of our pirates lol. Anyways I love the ride and cant wait for a new movie, hopefully a new trilogy (hey we can hope right).

I would wish to see Orlando back though as Will and use some sort of storyline with the dutchmen and him or something. But Depp is one of my fav actors, was awesome in Donnie Brasco, Blow, Fear and Loathing in LV, and many others, but my favorite part he plays is Captain Jack. Cant wait!!!

It seems we may get Pirates 4 before The Lone Ranger.

Bruckheimer Gives Updates on Pirates & The Lone Ranger
Source: Edward Douglas June 11, 2009

Earlier this week, there was a story from the Licensing International Expo in Las Vegas posted on Jim Hill's Blog claiming that Jerry Bruckheimer and Walt Disney Pictures had chosen a director to helm The Lone Ranger, which would star Johnny Depp as Tonto, and that the movie would push the planned Pirates of the Caribbean 4 back.

ComingSoon.net had a chance to catch up with Bruckheimer this week and ask him about the status of both projects, having been over six months since our last update. Currently, the producer is in the middle of filming The Sorcerer's Apprentice with Jon (National Treasure) Turtletaub in New York City, while Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time is well into its post-production, with both movies scheduled for release in the summer of 2010.

That doesn't mean that those other projects aren't in development, but Bruckheimer told us that for Disney, the priority is most definitely "Pirates." "It's a great franchise for them and for us, too," he said. "A beloved character and Johnny's really excited about coming back to Captain Jack. He certainly is interested in Tonto, but Disney's priority is to get 'Pirates' made first. You never know what's going to happen, but they would like it."

Bruckheimer shared that the original writers, Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot, were "writing 'Pirates' as we speak," and he said it was "funny" and a "whole new way of going" although he wouldn't share more than that.

Since Gore Verbinski recently announced that he may not direct a movie based on the video game BioShock, we asked Bruckheimer if there was a chance he might return for a fourth movie. "You never know," he admitted. "He created the franchise so we'd love to have him back, but it's kind of up to him."

That led us to wonder what the status of The Lone Ranger really was, since other than Johnny Depp as Tonto, no casting for the lead character has been announced; we asked whether that information might be forthcoming. His response was that they were going to "wait until they got a director and Disney says to go make the movie," essentially denying earlier stories that "Prince of Persia" director Mike Newell was in talks to direct the movie. "We don't have a director yet. He's too busy on 'Prince of Persia' right now," Bruckheimer confirmed.

I personally dont know what to think about this. It is intresting that the rumors of Mike Newell directing are false. And it doesn't make much sense to me to put Pirates 4 in front of Lone Ranger. Both have Depp signed on, but Ranger has a script finished. It just seems easier to me, to go out and find a Lone Ranger director and get the film shot next summer and get it ready for the July 2011 date it was supposed to have. The writers are working on Pirates now, which will take a while. Remember, Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio started work on the Lone Ranger after Pirates 3 was released. So who knows how long writing Pirates 4 will take.

But I guess they may be having trouble with The Lone Ranger and finding a director. They have been looking for a director since November. So I guess I can give Pirates 4 the pass to move in front of Lone Ranger; if that is the case. Bioshock, the film Gore Verbinski ditched Pirates to make, is going down like the Titanic right now. So Gore may be available very soon.
