Pirateland

Just recived an e-mail from Disneyland Hong Kong, and there were two intresting things.

The first is they have also introduced a summer parade in which the crowd gets splashed by the characters as they go past, something i have always thought would be cool for WDW. But then i guess there would be nothing but complaints from people who got wet unwillingly.

Also they have no changed Adventureland to Pirateland. With some new pirate meet and greets and some subtle rethemeing, but of interest is Jungle cruise, pirate take over.

There was a rumor a while back about Adventureland getting a pirate re-theme, maybe this is the test project......!

If they change the tree house to a pirate lair of some sort (tree/fort/ship) and maybe change the tiki birds to be more pirate/parrot themed, then it would already make a good Pirateland as it is.

While i dont mind a more pirate themed area, I would still prefer it to be called Adventureland, just for old times sake and for the legacy of Walt.

Now the Jungle Cruise Pirate take over, from what i can see, looks like an overlay, so maybe they could introduce this for Pirates and Princess. Then there would be something unique and interesting to the party! Anyway, just wanted to share that with you.

I hope they keep things just the way they are in Adventureland. They're overdoing all the Pirate stuff. It's the true the "new" Tiki room pales in comparision to the Original but a Pirate retheme would be unfortunate and unwise.

I'd leave Florida's MK alone. Having a Pirateland at HKDL is perfectly fine because they aren't replacing anything and have nothing to lose. This also adds to the originality by only having it at HKDL and could boost their attendance rates (they really need it).

I thought the attendance was working its way up.

I'd rather see this at MK than at DL. I could totally see a re-theme. Would distinguish the 2 parks MUCH more also. Something they could TOTALLY use. I haven't been to DL in 7 years for this very reason.

I doubt it will become "Pirateland" in WDW.

I think a lot of these rumors only originated from fans who were wondering how Disney was going to combat Universal's deal with Harry Potter. That's when all these new ideas, like Pirateland, started to be discussed on these rumor sites.

The HKDL website does says it is Pirateland. My guess is that it is only temporary.

You know, I love Pirates as much as the next person.. but really, don't make Adventureland into Pirateland. That's just overdoing it by way too much.

I believe the Little Mermaid float in the Remember the Magic Parade squirted people as it went by.

I don't at all. You can still see "Adventureland" at DL. This is a great idea. Distinguish the products a little bit and it brings in more money to each place.

Oh goodness no...please let this not come stateside..I like the parade idea, but just say no to pirateland....ugh....talk about overdoing something.

My bet is that this is just a temporary overlay for HKDL. The "Pirate" sign over the Adventure sign on the entrance suggests that to me. Plus the whole idea of a pirate takeover. This would have been a pretty good idea for the P&P parties or for the release of the third POTC movie at WDW or DL. I can't see this being permanent.

I agree that this would be incredibly short sighted. Pirates as a franchise does not have legs. Really nothing does to that extent. Retheme one or two things is ok, but this would be a very bad move. It also destroys the approach of the other lands. I understand that overall themeing has taken a hardcore backseat to individual attractions, but I, for one, am getting to the point that a lot of these changes are making me not want to go back. It's losing the overall appeal it once had, and this would be a huge slap in the face.

Big question: if Pirates loses appeal, how much insane money would it cost to change this back? If you keep the theme of Adventureland, it doesn't cost nearly as much, and anything new coming in could be added in for the marketing suits out there. It forecloses a lot and puts stock in a very risky product IMHO. That is a quick way to failure for return customers.

Heh, not so long ago, WDW was altering POTC to make it more PC. Now they're making an entire land in Hong Kong more Pirate-ish.

Really, were they to do this Stateside, I'd be disappointed.

Aladdin's Royal Caravan had spitting camels...the same ones now in front of Aladdin's Magic Carpets.
Pirateland is an awful idea, indicating to me a lack of good ideas. Where's the originality in theming everything off those movies? Adventureland, at least, is vague enough that you can do a myriad of things with it. Pirateland is...pirates. And I'm pretty sick of them right now. I still love the classic attraction, but I'm not a fan of the currently movie overlay.
Does this mean Fantasyland will become Princessland, Frontierland will become Woodyland, and Tomorrowland will become Buzzland?

I dunno... maybe I don;t wanna see "Pirateland", but I think POTC the movie is strong, and will remain so for some time. Personally for me, the Jungle Cruise is beyond cheesy, and now with DAK, redundant. The Tiki room has some great effects and animatronics, but is otherwise kinda.... meh. The Swiss Family Robinson is kinda pointless these days. Just my Opinion, but I'd like to see those things improved. Some Pirate themeing wouldn't be bad IMO (maybe a cool Pirate table service restaurant.... a ship maybe?), but maybe not a wholesale conversion to "Pirateland."
