I think they chose little mermaid because in theory you dont have to retheme the bed, they might repaint them, but no need to replace. So refresh the rooms that arent doing well, but do it cheaply.. sounds like Disney.

Saying all of this.. i want to sleep in a boat bed..

Well, how about a whole pirate themed resort? Like them or not, the Pirates franchise made big money and still has a huge following.
A legit Pirates themed resort would do well I think and if you still want mermaids, well, mermaids and pirates definitely are in the same boat (pun intended) ...

Of course it'll never happen, but I'd stay there for sure.
works for lego...

although I think it would be cool if Disney did something like the old treasure island show in vegas...
BTW the sinking of the ship in the pirate show was designed by bob gurr.

I don't know, I think getting rid of those beds is one of the reasons they're doing this.

While it may feel this is well suited to the resort, there is also the possibility that the demand for these rooms isn’t there any more (if it ever was) so they’re trying a different theme. Despite what some around here like to believe, there isn’t always malicious intent in changes like this. It’s often tied to data suggesting that demand for that room theme has passed and it’s time for something new.
I thought that guests didn't like how far away from the restaurant and main building was at the pirate rooms. Also, the beds were rumored to be a mattress on a hard wooden frame?! I think the word got out on all this and maybe more. I know we would not have liked the pirate rooms due to the above. I imagine the rooms dropped in popularity a lot to have disney redo them to Under the Sea.

We stayed in the pirate rooms this year and for us they were dark and dingy and a world away from the bright refreshing rooms of Cabana bay where we stayed the following week.

I think any change here is a good change. The location of these rooms is arguably prime real estate on Disney now with the skyliner, but the rooms are very meh.

Shocked by the amount of angry reactions on the thread. Won’t argue the theme of Pirates makes more sense for the resort, but all in all I’d consider staying in these rooms again now, which wasn’t on the table prior to these changes.

They were far away from the main facilities and the beds were small. That’s why we never booked these.

Remove these buildings and just build a PotC deluxe resort. IP-tie-in= Happy Bob.

I still want those Haunted Mansion rooms…
PotC 2 day immersive experience? Maybe they’ll build that in the Adventureland expansion plot

Bedding, decorative borders, and upcharges are already at Disney resorts.
Yup, and here's a chance to do the exact same while adding more upcharge. I have 0 belief they are going to do some mind-blowing, amazing thing that is completely unique from everything else in the resort. They MIGHT put some fancy pictures like the Tiana rooms at Port Orleans, but if you think they are putting aquariums in with that kind of maintenance, you are crazy.

Or you missed my post about fake aquariums similar to the cruise like magic portholes....

Which again, would require a lot more maintenance. Disney hotel designs are much more subtle now. Just go look at the "Incredibles" rooms, or the Pop refurbs, or the Riviera. Go read the article again. "Subtle nods to fan-favorite characters from under the sea". They aren't putting in fancy changing aquariums and full on design. This will be some subtle borders, some new curtains, and maybe some new furniture with some design work.
