Pin Sharks

Ok, for those that are aware, us merchandise cast members have to wear pin lanyards with trading pins. I have one complaint though about it. I don't mind wearing them but, if you want to trade, can you please wait in line and ask instead of garbing my lanyard and chocking me or just helping yourself to pins?

Anyone else that is lines and observe this think it is rude?

YAY A CM IS AMONG US! Sorry. I noticed that for the first time this past trip. I would see a CM walking down the street and someone just walk up to them and grab their lanyard. I know the CM is more than happy to trade and loves seeing the smiles on the guest's faces, but I was shocked about the way the CMs were approached. I only saw it once or twice, but I can assume it happens all the time. I guess you have to go with company policy and just smile and help the guest since they are always first.

Yea it isn't a big deal to trade but when they grab and choke me it gets annoying. I know that if a guest touches us, we have the right to call security. Hmmm. also, we have the kid trading lanyards. I love it when the parents sends a kid to get your special pins so they can have it and not the child. All I can do is is just smile and nod. Oh well. Guests will be Guests.

Yep no worries though. The threat of calling security on the really annoying ones stops most of the others.

as a big pin trader myself, i do think that this is really rude. I always ask first! All CM's seem willing to trade if you ask and are polite, and that's not much to ask. I was having a nice converstation with a CM at Buzz who said that many CM's are pin traders themselves, but only wear the CM lanyards at work, thier personal collection is only worn when they visit the parks on off time.

WELCOME TO THE BOARDS!

btw: what store do you work at, or do you switch between two or three, or the entire park?

THANKS!

  Isn't Emporium the biggest store in the parks now? Of course I find it funny that there are "stores" on Main Street since it's all connected and basically one BIG store itself.

The Emporium, as you enter Main Street, it's just on your left correct? I think that's the big store? I know there are more stores on the West Side than the east, unless you are talking about the Hall in town square where Kodak Sells cameras.

Yea your guys got it. We are the largest store in the park itself. World of Disney is bigger than us but we constantly do the business where as they fluctuate. I can't go in to more detail than that but you get the idea. Speaking of work though, time to go back for round number two for the day.

I'm always on the other end of that pin trading situation. I get the CM who ignores me forever while I'm just quitely saying, "excuse me...?" *sighs* I've stopped people before and asked if I could see their lanyard, but never by grabbing them! (I tend to just glance over them but sometimes if something catches my eye, I'll ask if I can see it). And I never touch a CM's lanyard! I can't believe anyone would! I let them take the pin off and swap hand-to-hand if I trade. Though I'm a small-time collector (not really a trader) but I like to find different things off lanyards sometimes since you can come across some quirky stuff.

Anyway, I'm appalled at people's behavior. I enjoy my collection of pins (I have about 65 or so and most are on my backpack or hat) but I'm certainly not getting a second mortgage to pay for them and definately not attacking cast members to get to their lanyards!

Our rules for making a trade (and my 9 y/o follows these very well)...

Wait until the CM is not helping someone else. Ask politely if you may make a trade. DO NOT touch a pin but name it and point it out if necessary while naming the pin you would like to trade. (she usually has the pin[attached to the lanyard] in her hand). Hand the pin to the CM, say thank you and step to the side to place it on the lanyard.

I wish they would enclose a pamphlet with the rules (there are a written set) with each lanyard. Maybe give them out at pin carts too.

If only everyone would follow these rules. And I'm sorry if CMs seem to ignore people. I know it is hard to show your pins to everyone but sometimes, when you are working on a transaction, that transaction becomes more of a reason to concentrate than to trade pins. i hate to say it but the guest that is buying almost a thousand dollars worth of stuff is going to have more of my attention than the pin trader. Good luck finding the pins you guys are looking for. New ones are always coming out and some of the new ones I have seen are really tight.

Small time collecter with 65 pins!? I thought I was small time because I only have 4.... :lookaroun

How low can it go...

Coastieboy00,
My first reaction was I can't believe people would have the nerve, then again, I've seen enough inexcusable behavior by guests that it shouldn't surprise me. Hopefully it is the exception.

Like MissM, I can't imagine touching someones lanyard or pin after the discussion has been initiated, no less without introduction. If I did see it I would have no problem telling off the guest (as in another thread about defending CM's).

Don't worry, you both ARE small time... ;)

And to think that I was massively uncomfortable just looking at female CMs' lanyards, which happen to drape across their...you know...chest. (and I'm a girl!)

I even apologized for staring.

I cannot imagine anyone grabbing the lanyard.

That is the toughest issue!

I don't know why I didn't think of that in this thread. Yes, I have possibly a bigger problem being a middle aged guy trying to scope out a lanyard that happens to be on a female CM. I tend to stay a fair distance away and get an idea what they have before engaging them (the CM's I mean :o )

On the other hand, even beyond the pin trading (it isn't too often that they have something I'm looking for), the chance to engage them in conversation is fun, and it's a good icebreaker. Still, I feel more comfortable with my wife nearby.

Heh. I only have 6 pins myself. I don't trade... I just buy the occasional pin that catches mt eye. I'm thinking of maybe getting a lanyard when I go to MK in a couple weeks just to display them on at home. Currently they're all on a shoestring I got draped over my computer monitor.
