I am a new WDW pin collector, I LOVE THEM. I love looking at home and when I am in the "World" I spend too much on them but I wish I could buy even more!

Do you have a love of WDW pins, when did you start collecting, what is your most favorite pin and which one are you hoping to get next.......

I love collecting WDW pins! I started collecting when I was 11 (I'm now 18). I have around 100 pins. They are so addicting. My favorites have to be the limited additions because they are so rare. Welcome to the WDW pin collecting!

I started when I began going to WDW as an adult, but I really have very few compared to most collectors (I think I have around 50, haven't counted in a long time).

It is very easy to get addicted, which is why I have rules, LOL :

1) I specialize. The only character pins I purchase are of the Witch from Snow White (my favorite) or Maleficent. If you collect the generic character pins like this, I highly recommend specializing. If you don't, and you just buy every cute pin you see, you will go broke quickly as there are thousands of them.

2) I collect attraction pins from my favorite attractions - Haunted Mansion, Star Tours, etc. I don't need all of them, but I allow myself to pick up a few of those that really stand out to me.

3) I collect "event" pins. For example, the only one I bought at Disneyland last year was the 15th Anniversary Pin for the Indy Ride, as I was there that day. Other pins like this - opening day pins (I'll be sure to get a Star Tours one), or the ones for MVMCP and MNSSHP.

Even with just those categories, I still manage to spend a bit. Best bet is to set some ground rules for yourself, before you become one of those people covered in pins with a maxxed out credit card. ;)

I have around maybe 20 pins, of all things that I really love at WDW but, to be honest I'd rather just keep my event pins (40 years, epcot flower festival 2011) and dated year pins. If there was a way to sell my others I would just because

yeah when we saw them on our first trip we were intrigued and then quickly hooked.

I only get ones that really reflect what "DW" is to me (which I know has the potential to become a huge collection).

On our 3rd trip we got the kids involved. I bought a pack of 30 on ebay for about a dollar each. Some of the ones in the pack the kids really liked... but the point was for them to have a stash they could trade away with cast members.

I actually started collecting them to get my daughter interested. Her interest didn't last, which is ok...but I have managed to gather approximately 75 pins in a 3 year time frame. I'm kind of all over the place with them and buy what I like :ROFLOL:Many I purchase on ebay because people don't realize what they are selling. I actually got a great red, black and white 3d pin of Cruella da Ville off ebay for like $4...one of the pin traders at Disney inquired about her when they saw her on my lanyard and told me it was very rare..to NEVER trade it or get rid of it...so he kind of instilled the pin collecting nut in me LOL

I started collecting in 2002. I now have a little over 300. I did buy a 50 lot online when I frist started to get me going. But the only pins I buy now are when we actually go to a park. Always buy a pin with the year on it for each trip and then its either park pins or ride pins. The last trip down I belive we came home with about 25 pins. It is an addiction to me the wife does not really care she just puts up with it. My other addiction is pressed pennys. Third pic down shows off how I showed off my pins last trip. http://forums.wdwmagic.com/showthread.php?t=733177&page=5 I have two of those types of flags and really need another just can not find that type of cloth. So I will have to find some other type. Oh and my favorite ones are the Snow White and Seven Dwarf train set. She is in the engine and the dwarf are in mine carts and they all connect together.

I have about 2000 pins in my collection. I have some displayed on my walls and most of them are in pin trading notebooks. I don't look to collect by any specific category, I just look to trade for pins that catch my eye on CM's lanyards. Then when I get home I add them to the groups in my books. This next trip to WDW I will be bringing about 150 pins with me to trade. My wife and son put up with me as I suddenly, without warning, dart away to look at someones lanyard. Oh I do have an extensive collection of Jiminy pins. I also buy pins on ebay to help cut down on the cost of having pins to trade in the park. My favorite pin is a large Train pin with Mickey as the engineer, on the bottom theres a train that moves across, It just stands out.

We started out buying favorite rides and cats and now its mostly an annual pin with the year on it. We probably have about 50 pins in our collection.

You might want to consider attending on of the annual Pin Celebration events at Epcot. It's lots of fun. It can be overwhelming at first, but it is still a lot of fun. The theme for this year's event is the Florida Project, celebrating 40 years of Walt Disney World resort. Registration is now open.

I don't have a most favorite pin - I have way too many that I like a lot. But I would say that one of my most favorite pin, or in this case, pin set, is the one I got from Hong Kong Disneyland, celebrating the Chinese New Year.

This is the box that the pins came in:

And when you open the box, this is the 4-pin set that you see:

The pins are mounted on something that looks like a chinese screen, so they can stand up:

Each of the pins are also quite big, measuring about 2 to 3 inches in height.

BTW, if you scroll down further in this forum, there's a forum on Disney pin trading, in case you missed it.

Im just curious as to what the fascination is with Pin Collecting? Dont get me wrong, I have collected things in the past that I wanted to remember things by, and I dont have anything against collecting certain things.. I just dont understand it. My point of view is that people will spend ridiculous amounts of money on these things just to have them sit in a book or on a lanyard.
Is it just fun? Is it something to do? And what do you do with the pins that you dont trade???

I started out trading starter pins from one lanyard because I thought it would be something else fun to do at the parks. I didnt think I would collect as many as I have now, but like was mentioned earlier, it is addicting. Every time I've visited WDW I've taken along a lanyard of pins + more and kept building my assortment of pins. Going into the pin trading stores or kiosks I saw pins I liked to keep and added them as well. It's a great way to interact with the CM's and others you meet in the parks. I've had wonderful conversations that started just by making a pin trade. After the vacation its a way to connect with the past trips, friends like to see my pins that are displayed or in books and it gets them interested in Disney. Yes, to me it's fun, it's something to do, and I dont mind spending the money to do it. It's worth it to me.

I love to look at them, they make me happy and remind me of my fav. things at Disney, they are small and don't take up a lot of room or have to be dusted off :)

Why do people collect anything then? Baseball cards, sports memorabilia, vinylmations, coins, stamps...they all just sit in some sort of display. I started collecting pins when it started and I was only 13. I purchased just a few that commerated the parks and a few rides. Eventually I started to expand a bit more but was still all over the place. Now that I have a bit more disposable income I have decided that my keeper collection is the resorts. I have close to 60% of all the WDW and DVC resort pins that have been made (there are over 600 of them). The rest of the things I buy are for trade, so I can get what I want. As for what is in my keeper collection, I am deciding on how I want to display them. I have some ideas and will probably bring them to fruition at some point.

In my case, the many of the pins that I have come with the memories of when or how I got them. I don't buy pins on e-bay - those do not come with pleasant Disney memories.

Besides, many of my pins do not simply reside in books or in boxes. I have a lot of them on display in my house.

So no, my pins just don't "sit in a book or on a lanyard".

I probably started seriously collecting in 2006. I really only collect LE's. I just like the idea that their is some limit to the quanity that are produced. I especially like anniversary pins and the piece of history pins which I only have a couple of. It's addicting for sure. Last August I left with over 20 pins and all of them were LE so you can bet the total was over 200.
