Picture of 40th Anniversary Merchandise Tag

It's obvious that the reason they are doing this is to build up hype for the 40th. I mean so early? And in the airport? Dead giveaway.

Not really. Merchandise was produced for the 30th and there was no celebration. It doesn't mean something is coming. It does mean there will be merchandise, though.

Same for DL's 55th this year. Special anniversary merchandise was rolled out.. but the celebration was low-key and nothing major was added

Personally I'd prefer it that way. I just don't think every anniversary that's a multiple of 5 deserves a big blowout. They all start to run together after a while, especially if you keep up with the resorts on both coasts, where there's a "5" anniversary 4 out of every 10 years.

DL's 50th was a major milestone and deserved all the hoopla. I hope WDW gets something similarly major in 2021.

But the 40th? I'd be content with some merchandise...maaaybe a low-key promotion that involves goodies for the guests. We know that ST2 will open in May, so WDW already has a "new" attraction for the year of the 40th, and of course excitement will continue to build for FLE — which could actually open during the anniversary, considering how long a Disney "year" is.

Disney World hasn't had a "blowout" in nearly 15 years. I don't see any reason why they can't celebrate the 40th and the 50th in big ways.

Disneyland's anniversary celebrations should really have no bearing on WDW's.

Love it. Can't wait to see what else is to come. It makes me feel like I can trudge through the slideshow on the castle just to wait for the 40th fun to come....

In theory, I agree with you...but the way Disney globalizes these things does make it worth pointing out IMO. And it didn't start with the way DL's 50th was done. I remember getting Burger King toys 20 years ago for DL's 35th, when they did the Party Gras parade. So this vague sense that "Disney's throwing a big party" has been nationalized even before the Disney Parks trend began.

But anyhoo...I didn't figure many people would agree with the general sentiment. And if WDW does make a big deal out of the 40th, I certainly won't complain! (And WDW's 40th is certainly more important than DL's 55th, at any rate.)

Awesome! WDW and I are the same age so we get to celebrate these milestones together!! I loved the merch for 35, my favorite hoodie says est. 71 - it's perfect! Can't think of a better way to turn 40 but in WDW celebrating together.:) (....and 50, and 60, etc.!)

You and me both. Can wait to celebrate my 40th birthday with WDW (although mine is actually in January 2011) when we are down there in March. Also kinda cool that my wife and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary in March too!

TWICE the celebrating for me!!!!:sohappy:

Same here for January, 1-1-1971 to be exact.
I've always felt the same way about WDW and I being the same age.
Well, close anyway.

August birthday here. I'm hoping to celebrate with a trip in early June. I just think it's cool that I was also "established" in 1971! Thanks mom and dad, lol!

I found this today, in of all places, the Orlando airport Disney gift shop. It was attached to an infant-sized shirt with Mickey and the classic WDW logo.

I knew it! I knew they were going to start early! :D

I understand the sentiment of not wanting a "big blow out" every five years, but I don't see a problem with celebrating the ten year birthdays/anniversaries. Most individuals consider turning 40 to be a milestone of sorts, so I would be completely happy if WDW celebrated their 40th. Especially since I will be going twice in 2011. :sohappy::sohappy:

Let's just hope they don't drape black "OVER THE HILL" streamers over the castle with a giant standup "Lordy Lordy, Look Who's 40" card in the hub. :)

I hope you didn't just plant another idea into the head of the person who dreamed up the castle cake.

:-D WOW, its so nice to see the old logo back. I much prefer it over the generic walt signature (not even really his) and a generic WORLD type. Walt's real signature is so much different then those the animators would do. Walts wasn't so artsy.

I really hope they revive that old WDW logo for the 40th atleast. I'd love to get a park map in 2011-2012 with that on it.

thanks for posting your finding.

This is the funniest thing I've seen in DAYS! I can just picture the black streamers, black balloons and that big card in the hub for everyone to "Leave a birthday wish"!
