What is this Midway Madness I keep hearing about?
Its the rumored replacement attracton for Who Wants to be a Millionaire at Disney-MGM Studios. The concept is that of a dark ride mixed in with elements of Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin and Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin. It is also supposed to feature some of the Pixar characters.

3D, 3D, don't forget the 3D angle. 8 person cars, 10-12 rooms, hidden characters and scenes behind hidden characters and scenes. All art to be done by Pixar, etc. etc. etc.

I swear... everytime I hear Midway Mania I think of the other Disney "midway;" Chester and Hester's. Then I get really depressed. Then I drink.

*ahem* Midway MANIA is a ride that's in the rumor stages right now to replace WWTBAM? which will be a sort of a Spiderman type of ride themed to characters from Toy Story.

Its the persistant rumor that the Haunted Mansion will get a yearly Nightmare Before Christmas overlay during the holidays like at DL.

Poor Imagineer Boy, I like how he's trying to get everyone to realize it's Midway Mania and not "Madness" like the title and three other people have stated, haha.

And the rumor that The Haunted Mansion in Walt Disney World may eventually do the yearly Haunted Mansion Holiday is no longer a rumor, it's been completely debunked. I was one of the people who loved Nightmare Before Christmas and wanted it to come to Walt Disney World, but I don't like WANTING something to happen in Disney World when someone, somewhere, has already decided if it will or will not happen, so I went around to Cast Members, asking. They all only told me "No, it's only in Disneyland" which wasn't quite the answer I was looking for. But then I got my REAL answer in the Keys To The Kingdom tour.

During lunch at the Harbor House, I figured since we were right next to the mansion, I would ask, and this is what he said: "Well, like many others who have asked, I can tell you that they will not be bringing Haunted Mansion Holiday to Disney World because Disneyland needs their own special attractions, don't they? They have their enormous It's A Small World, and Haunted Mansion Holiday, as well as a few other special keynote attractions" (which we now know are Monsters Inc. and their version of Finding Nemo) "and if Disney World had the same things that they do, there would be no need to go to Disneyland, and we definetely don't want that. So no, Disney's Haunted Mansion Holiday will not be coming to the Walt Disney World Resort."

I'm not sure where you heard that... I did ask a cast member about the rumored "Halloween Event" that was to involve Nightmare Before christmas, and she replied that during Halloween, there is only one event, and it's Mickey's Not so Scary Halloween Party at the Magic Kingdom.

As for there being a Nightmare Before Christmas Ride, this is the first I've heard of that... @_@ And since disney hasn't made any official announcements, I doubt it's correct. But hey, we'll see. So far, we know that what IS planned for Disney-MGM Studios is whatever is replacing Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Since we don't know the EXACT name, we call it "Madway Mania"

Chester and Hesters is not that bad.

The one thing I was really disappointed with was the games. one of the many things I really loved about WDW was that unlike sixflags and other amusement parks, at WDW there was no area where they had overpriced games to win junky little toys. Then BOOM...AK does just that. Now I know its supposed to go w/the theme and all...I just don't like it, right there where the kids are of course going to be.

I don't have any pictures, but I did find this about the ride. It is from miceage.com

"The basic plotline to this attraction is that the Toy Story gang has created a series of midway games for you to play, and they are all themed to their individual character. Riders will sit in rather traditional looking dark ride vehicles that have a cannon mounted on a rotating turret for each seat. The vehicles will travel through the show building and come to a stop in each show scene, where a different midway game is laid out for riders to play. The plan is to have a half dozen different midway games offered up to each car, with a bonus round at the end to determine the winner in each car."

"After an animatronic Mr. Potato Head acting as a midway barker lures you in to play, you move from one game to the next during the 5 minute long ride. For instance, the vehicles would come upon Little Bo Peeps Balloon Pop where you play the famous water gun race found at most county fairs. That would be followed up by the Green Army Men Shooting Range with moving targets coming at you, or Barbie's Beach Ball Bash throwing balls into rings. A Frontierland-style shooting gallery and a Rex the Dinosaur Red Hot Dino Dash amongst lava flows and erupting volcanoes are also planned."

I read the MiceAge article as well and it sounds very cool if those are truly the plans for the ride.

Does anyone else think that the way the new technology sounds it's going to unintentionally make the technology used on the Buzz rides seem primative? With the addition of 3D and the variations with each time you ride, it seems to me that it will make Buzz seem outdated. :lookaroun
