Pick your own pearl????

Someone mentioned to my 7 yr old. that they were able to pick an oyster and it would be cracked open to reveal their pearl. Anyone know of the location(s) for this? Thanks.:wave:

The Department store at epcot,(japan) i get one everytime we go. its beautiful
you pick it out, the attendednt opens it, shows u it, cleans the pearl and the oyster, you pay, and u have a new pearl

My DD Wendy got a beautiful pink pearl!! It's well worth the money! (This was the Beach Club location, btw.)

Pretty neat... I didn't know that they did this in DW, but I do know that my sisters did this @ Silver Springs when we were kids... They had a cart setup with what amounted to a big 'pan' and water running through the pan across the oysters... I think back then it cost about $5.00 or so and for like an extra $3.00 or so they got them mounted on a simple lanyard that they could wear around their necks...

My daughter has a beautiful neclace from a pearl she picked in Japan. She treasures her first real "gem". It is a fun experieince!

Didn't there used to be a location at either PI or TL? I remember going down there when I was engaged, opened my shell and had two! My DF surprised me at our rehearsal party with the pearls made into earrings to wear on our wedding day.

The key to get a great pearl is the "tiger lines". The darker and more lines you have the better pearl you get. I learned that from a "oyster stuffer". Those oysters are older and they give a more radiant color and size.
I have done the pearls at Japan and got 3 beautiful pale pink pearls (3 different times) all the same size..

There's also a place to do this at SeaWorld. There, you get to see someone dive down into a tank to get the oysters. Here's a video:
