PHOTOS - Retail MagicBands take prominent position in Walt Disney World shops

That's quite a photo of the tremendous amount of display cases take up by the MB's at the Emporium. Just curious what products or merchandise were displaced? It would be interesting to see a before and after shot. Seems like overkill to me. A simple carousel display would have been so much classier. :)
Isn't that were the coffee mugs used to be?

Guests need to understand MagicBands are just an alternative form factor of a ticket and that it makes no difference to FP+. But you are right, people paying for bands may wrongly assume it gives them extra FP+ capability.
So what you are saying is when I stay on property I have a choice of ticket or band? And with ticket I still will get access to FP+?

Good grief. Let's see - an RFID card at no additional charge which does the same thing as the band but fits in my pocket or billfold - or - pay $13 for a band which won't fit my wallet and is bulkier to carry around in a pocket (unless you're the sort of person who likes to wear colored bracelets).

I just don't get it. i don't want to.

Youknow, while I'd prefer the card for park use, if I was an AP holder and visited a lot, dropping $13 to get the band for use at Water Parks may be worth it.

Otherwise, I agree with your assessment. :p

So, is this a two step process? You buy your band and then troop over to a kiosk to get your tickets added and activated? This won't add any congestion to GR or the kiosks now will it?

I hope they introduce purple and other magic bands design soon. Up to today I have a green one selected but I'd change to purple or a Donald inspired band in a second.

OK, so I'm here at wdw now. Not a resort guest and not and annual pass holder or anything. I hated the idea of the magic bands, but guess what? I purchased one the morning they came out. I love the magic band. Its easy. I dont have to pull my wallet out to get my tickets out every time I get on a ride for FP+ or for a photo pass. I don't need to worry about the ticket getting lost or dropping it when I'm digging in my pockets for money to pay for food, or anything else. Its simple and convienent and no different than the RFID card. The measly $12.95 was nothing compared to the $700 some odd dollars I paid for 5 day tickets with park hopper option. So for those who are complaining about the price, get a grip. And I don't get why guests staying onsite are the only ones who "deserve" a magic band. Why shouldn't they be available to everyone? Its a ticket you wear on your wrist. Not everyone can afford to stay at a Disney hotel and the perk of staying on site, is that you get to stay in the lap of luxury in a Disney hotel. And free parking. Before this came along, what perks ticket wise and fast pass wise did an on site guest have over off site? Not much of a difference is my guess. People need to get a grip. Seriously. I paid a butt load of money to come here for a trip and I see where my money went. Wdw employs a TON of people and its got to be expensive to turn the lights on every day (so to speak) and they just pass the buck on. Same thing every other business does. One of the few complaints I have about Disney and money is 1) charging for parking. $17 to park my car for 12 hours at a place where I already paid to visit is stupid. If there was a valet service, then OK. And 2) the cost of a drink, water or otherwise. End of rant.

EMHs have been a perk as well for resort guest. I agree that MBs should be there for anyone who wants one, free to resort guest as a incentive to stay there and a reasonable cost to buy for others. I agree $12.95 is reasonable for them. You brought up some great points of their functionality as well :)

You do suck for being there right now while I am stuck here but other than that great post!

I was at MK yesterday on a 4-day FL resident ticket. I used to have an AP but not right now. I saw the MagicBands for sale and asked a CM if I would be able to use the band on future visits. She said yes, but the battery is expected to last for about 2 years and then I would have to buy a new one.

This surprised me — I guess I didn't realize they have a battery. But what if I come back in about two years, with my new ticket loaded onto my old MagicBand and the thing doesn't work at the entrance? I imagined loads of people in two years may have this problem, creating delays at the turnstiles. Or what if the battery dies while you're in the park and you left your wallet in the car? That would be unfortunate. o_O

Touch to enter doesn't need the battery powered part of the MagicBand, so that situation won't happen.

That's the "best" part. The only features that die with the battery are the tracking features (although some day they may put those features to good use, like at BOG and finding your table).

I am slowly accepting FP+ however, the selling of MB is just stupid and a waste of money and anyone who purchases one should be embarrassed. For those staying on property - the MB is wonderful and streamless. However, I see no point in an off site guest (excluding AP) purchasing them - the RFID ticket enables all FP+ capability. What is the point?

They already use the MB to find you at BOG.

Holy Disney, that's an entire wall of Magic Bands. But still no purple....

Maybe I can auction off the 7 I don't need.
