Thanks for the pics, Erika. This is just a reminder of how much we all have in America compared to a lot of other places in the world. Remember your blessings and be thankful, especially this Thursday.

I think its interesting that they teach english there.
THey teach english everywhere! In every country they teach english as a mandatory second language, infact America is the only country that doesn`t require a second language.

You guys are so awesome Erika!! I've always wanted to do something like you guys are doing. But, with the job I have, I don't make enough to send any money! :( But when I'm older with a steady job, I'm going to sponsor some one! Thank you for sharing these pictures! :D

If you are interested, there are some sponsorship programs which are very cheap. AKIN, for example, which helps AIDS orphans in Zambia receive education, starts at $17 a YEAR for the elementary school level. If you are interested, you can check it out at http://www.deeproots.org/akin/

Our dollars go very far in third world countries. It's amazing what you can do.

There are other organizations where you "adopt" an orphan and send gifts of clothes/school supplies/etc throughout the year. I would like to get involved with one of those eventually. Postage gets to be very expensive, though.

There are also American-based organizations which help kids who live on Reservations or in Appalachia (sp?).

Hmm... And we talk about how kids in this country have to grow up too fast sometimes... It sort of puts things in perspective a bit...

Erica, the two of you have to be the nicest most sincere people I have ever (sorta') met in my life. I thought I'd found the in your armor with reality TV but since I was wrong... I don't know how to say what I'm trying to about the two of you without it coming across as sarcastic and insulting (which is polar to the effect I'm going for) so I'll go ahead and stop while I'm not too far behind. :)

Thank you, everybody, for all the nice things you are saying but really, I get so much out of doing this- It's not exactly selfless giving

One of the sponsors I know gives 1/3 of her paycheck towards sponsoring children. She lives in the inner city and barely scrapes by. Still, she has what she needs and is far better off than any of the children she sponsors, and she is eternally grateful.

Some people might say she is stupid, but I think she is a hero.

So what you are saying is… In return for your seeming generosity, they work in your labor camps over there?

Come on, just accept it. All that is missing are the wings and gold rings above your heads. ;)

Seriously, I know you can’t think too highly of yourself and flaunt it and still be the same person that we are all pretty sure you are which puts you in sort of a strange bind when you have a bunch of people like all of us telling you how great you are but just the same, you can close your eles and think to yourself “I’m a pretty great person” and nobody but you will know that you even thought it. There’s nothing wrong with accepting the reality of the situation every once in a while, you know? :)

Two cool people....

You're terrific people......God bless ya both......You and John deserve the very best life can offer....:sohappy: Life can be rewarding and filling in so many seemingly insignificant ways.

I thoroughly enjoyed the pictures, hon...they give most of us thoughtful pause this blessed Thanksgiving. There's no better way to appreciate all we take for granted than to see those who take nothing for granted.

So, we know who John and Erika are, who's Slivka? How cute is that?
