Today I received back the disposable camera I sent to one of our sponsored children! This is from Laho of Nepal and was accompanied by this letter from his older brother Guri:
Dear John and Erika Slivka,
Namaste!
My younger brother Laho Prasad and we all family members are fine here. We hope to hear about your fineness over there.... The photos you had sent were very beautiful. The photos here in our country do not match the standards of your country. In the camera you had sent I have taken picture of our house. Mine eldest brother has gone to maternal uncle's house for 15 days. So I could not take the picture of the whole family. I have taken the picture of four members of our family In thr group photo you can see Laho, mother, father, and youngest brother. I am not in that picture. Mine photo was taken in front of a small range post office here in our community. At first I could not take pictures with that camera. Later on Plan's community volunteer Khemkala Sapkota taught me how to handle that camera. After that only I could take pictures with that camera. How I have done I don't know.
I work as a kitchen boy in the range post. My mother does household works and my father is very old. Her herds goats that we have. My younger brother attends school and small brother attends early childhood care development centre (ECCD) supported by Plan. My elder brother helps in household works. We know you both John and Erika but who is Slivka? Your relative? Do write about it in your next letter. Therse days the climate here in our place is fine. How is the climate in your place? Do write about it also. Although we are Tharu we can speak Nepali language. From our grandfather's time we have been following the ancient customs. They all respect our religion and cultures. Our religion is Hindu. OIur important festivals are Dashain and Tihar. In these festivals we play swings, eat delicious food. In Tihar we sing traditional festival songs, wear new clothes, make delicious foods to eat, put Tika (red mark on the forehead), wear garlands. Different types of beautiful natural flowers are found here in our place. This much for now I will write more in the next letter. OK Bye bye.
