Wouldn't the lifestylers just be sitting there drinking free glasses of ice water? It wouldn't make a difference to them either way. :D

-- edit, again - from the comments below, it sounds like I misread the announcement... Until further notice, it is for everyone 21 and up after 8.
This is the phrase I interpreted to mean it's for Poly guests only:
The lounge will operate daily from 4pm to midnight, and will be available exclusively to guests aged 21+ after 8pm.

So guest means more than a resort guest. My apologies!

With the requirement that the patron be a Poly guest after 8pm, I doubt we'll see many lifestylers there. Besides, wouldn't the lifestylers just be sitting there drinking free glasses of ice water? It wouldn't make a difference to them either way. :D

Oh I didn't see that it is only Poly guests after 8 - is this verified? If so, great news for my May trip.

I've never been to a Trader's , so what is a Mai Kai? Just curious.
The Mai Kai is one of the oldest tiki establishments in the United States. It's in Fort Lauderdale and is a massive restaurant with a Polynesian luau and tiki garden. Very vintage, very fun. I love it there.

Whoa, after 8 you have to be a patron? When did this come out?

That's a tad too far, honestly. I had planned on booking Ohana on our MK day and visiting TSGG after/before dinner. :-/

Ground Control to Major Tom..... (Sorry, couldn't resist that joke)

4-430 is when all bars open on property. Disney is likely modeling this on the behavior of other establishments .....and then going to Force this into their existing model of 8 hour shifts. It's determined by labor & budgets. If it was open from 11 or noon on? You'd need two shifts of workers at six hours. In this case you only have one shift at 8 hours. It's how they work.

Thats not true. I have been to the bar in Sanaa at 1pm. Breadservice for lunch :)

That is what I have read as well. After 8pm, 21+ only but no restriction on needing to stay at the Polynesian.

Limiting it to only guests staying at the Poly would definitely be a way to miss out on extra $$$.

I edited my comment above, so as not to confuse those reading the thread. Basically, I misinterpreted the following announcement:

"The lounge will operate daily from 4pm to midnight, and will be available exclusively to guests aged 21+ after 8pm. "

I apologize for any confusion.

The patio will remain open for ALL ages, 4p - 12a. The inside will shift to 21+ from 8p till closing.

It's funny that on one thread... I'm 'told' I should wear an orange shirt after having two drinks at Epcot... to warn others of my 'drunk' self...

And in another... we're disappointed that a Resort bar is closing at midnight instead of 2a?

No one expects 'drunken debauchery' with their admission to EPCOT... nor is expected at your $350+/night resort in the wee hours of the morning.

While I agree it's a missed opportunity for $$$... as a future resort guest... I don't really see a reason for non-guests to be pulling in after midnight to throw down at the Grotto.

Wow, that Tiki statue really changes everything, now it is nearly undistinguishable from the old Polys lobby before the "defurbishing".
Just kidding of course, it still looks as boring as ever, the old Poly is dead and the "new" is definitely not worth 400+$ a night. At least we never again are tempted to spend the money anyway to have again this special feeling of staying at the Poly. It's not special anymore, it could be the lobby of any resort in Hawaii. Before people who went to Hawaii told me, it's actuallly more Hawaiian than Hawaii. No threat any longer that this could happen.

Is the new lobby and trader sams operating hours really deterring folks from staying there? Am I the only one excited to go? I've experienced the old lobby plenty of times, and while it was cool I certainly think the benefits of an open lobby layout, no interior environmental concerns, a brand new themed bar, and two new pool areas one with a new bar and grille, outweigh the removal of the rock formation. Do any of you currently gave plans there, or plan yo go in the future?

I think the point of that post was misunderstood.

The orange shirt is called for when you have 8-12 drinks inside you and are challenging every passer-by to a fight, not enjoying a drink or three while walking around the WS or having dinner.

I've seen the former behavior far too often, Some people think because they are on vacation at WDW the standards of polite and responsible behavior no longer apply.

Anyone who thinks the parks should be 'Dry' needs their head examined for crying out loud it's why Walt built Club 33 so he and his guests could have a DRINK at DL,

That being said drunken behavior should be grounds for immediate ejection from the park and probably protective custody by the OC Sheriff because at that point you are a danger to yourself and others.

It does seem that some think that behavior which is considered normal for Bike Week at Sturgis, should also be acceptable at all times at EPCOT.

You need to experience at least ONE 'Bike Week' however it's not an experience I would choose to do again but I'm glad I did it. It's a unique culture all on it's own with guys named 'Stick' because they have a wooden leg... You get the picture.

The Bikes are amazing, Everything from 'American Chopper' type custom bikes to bikes where everything except the engine and transmission were smithied on a forge, Bike people are equally unique.

Guess so Flynn...

Because if you think a popular bar, located in the heart of a small resort, from 12a to 2a, IS the proper 'time and place' as you call it... then you're right, that's a concept I have no desire to understand.

We changed our reservation from the Beach Club to Poly... really looking forward to our stay!

Sorry EpcoTim... your post (which I took as sarcasim) just perfectly summed up that discussion for me.
