The Epcot Manifesto
Seeing as there's a Christmas tree in there now, i'm inclined to believe it. They aren't putting holiday decorations out there if it isn't opening soon.
The tree was what I was originally peeking in to get a picture of because I thought the same thing. If there is a tree, it would be open before Christmas. This weekend would make sense with holiday crowds.

are there people that really thinks this looks better? it looks, for lack of a better term, just plain sad.

what a bummer.
This is the beauty of forums: some people have different opinions than yourself. I would think it most prudent to wait until the whole project is done and compare Poly 2013 to Poly 2015. This is like rating a person's attractiveness halfway through a nose job procedure. Wait til the swelling goes down.

It's not half way done though - probably ~95% and is supposed to be open this weekend . It also mirrors the concept art almost exactly so we have a pretty good idea of what it is going to look like.

I'm holding out that the furnishings, if any, and other elements will complete the look and tie it together with the existing structure in an elegant manner. It's like adding landscaping to a newly finished building. It can make all the difference.

Take for example the "pile of rubble"... it's possible that the Tiki statue, water flowing and surrounding plants (if any) will make it 1000% better.

That's why I referred to the whole project, not just the lobby.

on the plus side, the float light chandeliers are very interesting... exotic and retro... actually quite nice.
The Rubble Fountain is awful...Maybe once the tiki is put on the top and water is running it will be better? not sure...dont think that could save it... Well the objective was to open up the space, so I would say they were successful in doing that. More than that, we will have to see when the furnishings arrive...
it looks pleasant... just a huge step backward. Have not heard anything about the water features at the entrance that are supposed to be so spectacular they will make all of this ok...
Anyone know more about that?
The. 'Furnishings' will be merchandise carts ...

I know this isn't going to be popular, I'm somewhat surprised myself, but I actually.....LIKE this! o_O
Sure, it may not be as lush and the water feature diminished, but this offers more space and I think is better suited for a deluxe. It has a more "grand", open appearance which the previous feature did not offer. The lushness will still be abundant surrounding the resort. At least one would hope and looks to remain. Plus there is still more greenery to be added to the lobby. As well as hopefully the Tiki to the top of the water feature. I'm looking forward to seeing this in April! So happy it's nearing completion and the resort will be clearing up.

As nostalgic as the old lobby was and always will be, I welcome this :)

The lobby still has the Poly fragrance, doesn't it?

It's really a strange thing to see people freaking out about a Lobby in an overpriced hotel.

On the surface, to people who wouldn't know any better, people who have never been to WDW, it may seem like a ton of people are "freaking out about a lobby", but there's so much more to it, I don't even know where to begin. It's not even the loss of the waterfall that's really at the root of people's lament, it's the notion that Disney has taken something away from us that we grew up with. We treat Disney like that favorite grandparent that would shower us with gifts when we were kids. We have a deep seeded affection for Disney as we would have for a loved one. So when they turn around and do something like this to something we all cared about, IE our memories with family and friends gathered around that water feature, it hurts!! We feel the same type of betrayal as we would if that favorite grandparent took our gifts that they gave us back. Some of us have great memories of being there around the waterfall with loved ones that are no longer with us. We hoped to bring our children there to give them the same type of great memories. So yes it's a hard blow to lose all that, but life does go on. The problem we're all having is that it seems like our beloved Disney doesn't care about it, and has taken our favorite childhood toy away and replaced it with a broken one they found in a dumpster. And that hurts.

wait, people are allowed to have different opinions? first i've heard of it!

how about this: as someone who has been visiting this resort since 1987, i think this "unfinished" project (which will probably be open in two days) looks sad and pathetic.

EDIT: backing this down as to not create needless bickering.

Unbelievable, they even managed to make it even WORSE than it appereared in the already depressing design graphics which were presented months ago. Where is that tiny-winy fountain they had in the design sketches? Would that still have been to much maintenance costs? Now there is no recognizable design idea left at all. Nothing unique, nothing special, nothing that justifies the insane prices they charge. I could design this in an hour if I would ever design such a boring lobby void of any atmosphere. Stone floor, some benches, some flowers (BTW ALL of the same species, all Bromelias, I believe Guzmania). Could be anywhere. Unbelievable that they are not ashamed to present it to the public. They destroyed a true paradise and created a rocky desert. TDO go to hell!
We will NEVER ever stay there again. The Polynesian is dead. Period.
