If you asked that question 5 years ago I would say no, never. But after everything they've done recently I wouldn't put anything past them.
It would be extremely difficult, remember that the MK as you know it is the second story of a two story structure. Placing another large building behind the current castle (a la Hong Kong) would place enormous strain on the basement. Also there is not much room in that back courtyard to extend the structure without intruding on the Philharmagic and Pooh show/ride buildings.

Finally, they could only extend the height by 10ft before they have to put a red airplane hazard light on the building.

I have and it’s ugly. “See it in person” doesn’t even make sense next to “They painted it that way for Instagram.”

Make up your mind, fanboys. Pick an excuse and stay logical. ;)

(I agree with you that the 50th bunting is nice!)
Hey! I was one of those "they painted it that way for Instagram" people, and I stand by it! Just to be clear, though: that was never a defense of Disney's hideous color choices.

I believe the thought was removal and full replacement of the existing structure not adding another structure behind what is there now. A robust foundation up project. An unrealistic pipe dream but hey! It's Disney! As for a warning navigation light for aircraft NO BIG DEAL besides I believe the airspace above WDW is restricted and carefully controlled.

Goodness, I HOPE that's true. Tokyo's paint job has long been head and shoulders above WDW's, but to see them both painted anew in the same year and have that gap widen from both ends of the spectrum is just embarrassing. WDW should have gotten Tokyo's paint job - throw in a few more gold accents for the Anniversary if necessary. No one deserves WDW's current paint job.

For everyone's reference:

I prefer our Cinderella Castle just the way it was. Tokyo looks like a Lego set, and I can't even comment on WDW's current castle monstrosity except to say that it's... a monstrosity.

Would WDW ever do something completely insane and replace Cinderella Castle with a brand new castle? Like Shanghai’s castle? Keeping in mind the WDW we know today that had no problem ruining Epcot lol.
If anything I think TDL should change its castle, that way every park will have an original castle. That will never happen though.

Good lord. How they ever let purple turrets happen in the first place is mind boggling. At least it looks like they’ll be finishing the turrets soon. With over 6 months to go before the 50th, that leaves plenty of time to replace the pink as well. Please let that be on the table. Would make sense as to why they started 50th preparations this early.

I would like to see/know the people behind the creative design of the castle, like the head who approves stuff. Are they young or old. It definitely plays a factor as tastes is important.

As much as I would rather see them not play safe and be creative generally in other stuff, you can't just do something to an iconic structure that would end up having polarizing opinions. I know you can't please everyone but right now opinions are like 50/50. It has to be at least 80/20 with 80 loving it.

They're the same people who gave us this beauty:
