Photopass question

On our last trip, I did that pre-order thing with my photopass CD, and I ended up with over 100 pictures. When I went to claim the pictures online, it was up to me to choose the backgrounds and the black & white vs color and all that. I didn't mess with doing that, so I just had plain pictures from the CD.

On our other trips, when we went into the photo place at the parks to claim a picture, it automatically came with the background without even being asked. Now, on the other hand, it was only one or two pictures and not over 100.

So, on our next trip, I may not do the pre-order thing. I might just pay at the photo-place and pick up our CD then. So my question is, are the computers programmed to automatically assign a background to all the pictures...sort of a default setting in the absence of a person specifically picking which format and background he wants? Or would I have to hold up the entire line to stand at the counter for a half hour or more to pick which backgrounds I want for which pictures?

I can't answer your specific question, but if you pre-order the photopass CD, you save $20-$25 and you get the full copyright of the photos to do any editing and chaging that you want.

But don't you get the full copyright if you buy it at the photo place at the parks?

And I know that I save 20 or 25 bucks to pre-order, but I'm not sure if the hassle is worth the savings. 25 dollars is a drop in the bucket compared to all the money spent on the trip. I would rather go up to the counter and pay the money and go home with my CD then and there, than to have to go through the pre-order procedure before the trip, remember to save the email, then after the trip to have to go back on the computer and log on to claim my CD. And I don't want to spend forever on the computer choosing which background and format I want for each picture. I'm too indecisive and impatient for that, and it's much more convenient if the backgrounds are automatically assigned on every picture. It may cost me 25 bucks more, but it's almost worth it to me for the convenience of just getting the darn CD and getting it over with.

You get the same CD/copyrights as when you pre-order. They just make it cheaper to pre-order to force you into getting it :animwink:
And I believe when you do it in the photo shop, they allow you to choose your own backgrounds or whether you even want them or not. Last year, I pre-ordered the CD but also used the coupon that came with the MYW package for a free print and they let us choose the background just like the website.

That's interesting. I guess my memory may just be a little fuzzy, because the times that I just bought one or two pictures in the photo-shop, I don't remember picking which background I want. I just remember giving the person the card, they pull up all the pictures from the day (in those particular instances, just a handful of pictures), me picking which one I want, and they print it out with the background on it. Perhaps they did ask me which background I want, but I just don't remember

I just know that I don't want to sit at my computer with over 100 pictures and edit each and every one of them. But I don't want to be the pain in the butt who stands at the counter for an hour holding up the line so I can pick which backgrounds I want for all those pictures. I just thought maybe the computer has a default setting where it just assigns one background to every picture and you go on your merry way in 5 or 10 minutes. Or maybe where you can tell them that you like more than one background and they can just set the computer to randomly assign the various backgrounds to all the pictures on your CD, without having to go through each picture and decide which one you want for which background.

Maybe I just lucked out and it wasn't busy so she went through everything with me? I enjoyed going through the backgrounds
I'm sure they do have defaults depending on the location of the photo though. Like in front of the castle would have the one with Tinker Bell and the "dreams come true" thing at the bottom. I'm guessing, anyway. On the website it has certain borders for certain locations, plus some standard ones.

I can see a person enjoying going through the backgrounds, but not if you have 150 pictures to do that with.

One more question...and I guess this question depends on the answer to my original question; if they have to manually go through and assign a background to each picture, is that something where you can leave the disc there and either A)pick it up later in the day on your way out of the park or B) have it sent to your room...assumming, of course, that you're gonna sleep in the room that night as opposed to departing for home right after you're done with the park?

I pre-ordered the cd before we left last sept. and I had backgrounds and things to add to my pictures. Then I could just print them out.
I think it's the same whether you pre-order or not.

Here is the scoop on the CD:

There are no such things as backgrounds. There are borders and overlays and signatures.

If you buy the CD in the parks, you get 3 free pictures, but all your photos will come as they were photographed, with no edits at all.

If you buy the CD at home, you can add borders, overlays, and signatures to the photos before you order the CD. You then save the ph oto as a copy. Your CD comes with all the originals and all the edited copies.

NO EDITS can be made to the images if you buy the CD on property.

The cost is the same either way.

If you like playing with photos, order the CD online.

If you know you'll never have time for that, buy the CD in the parks.

You definitely need to edit (at least crop) many of the photos. And if it's a special occasion, birthday, anniversary you can pick out the appropriate border.

Let me rephrase. The three free photos we print out can have edits and borders etc. But the original image will remain untouched on the CD.

Anything we print can be edited. However, the only way to change the digital image is to order the CD online.

Yes, some of our photographers could use a couple more training sessions in how to compose a photo (really no need to photograph the top of the tent in the princess room at Magic Kingdom). But for the most part we are pretty good at getting the photo right in the first place.

Does that make it clearer?

Thank you for your answers. That pretty much answers my question.
